Has anyone out there warn high heel stilettos to the dentist before? i went out in public the other week in them but when it came time for my appointment i was abit affraid to wear them while sitting in the dentist chair. It could have been a distraction or uneasy for the female dentist. last thing i want is her to slip with the drill haha. Thoughts?

I wear block heels (though some are tapered and thin, but not stiletto), and have worn them to the dentist many times. His wife is his assistant and receptionist and must hate heels - I've never seen her wear dress shoes, much less heels. But I've never had any comments on my shoes by the dentist or his wife. And the drill has never slipped! LOL

Heelers :  I believe there is no reason why we (men) shouldn't wear high heels any where we care to.

I wear high heels every where. Dental office included. This is such a place.  spikesmike

I agree with you, I would be afraid my boots might cause a distraction.....

Not only do I wear high heels to the dentist, I've gotten a bit of a reputation there. The dentist himself has never actually said anything, but the dental hygienists, who are all women, look forward to seeing which shoes I have selected "this time."  I try not to repeat a pair of shoes when I go there. My long-time personal hygienist even admitted that I inspired her to try heels again for the first time in years. I haven't actually seen them, but she told me she bought some wedges, and enjoyed wearing them.

I only wish that my old dentist had not moved away before I started wearing heels. She always wore heels to the office. Not super high ones, but they were always very stylish and somewhat trendy.

Yes I wear heels to the dentist.

Honestly I don't get any flack.

I've worn heels to the doctor, getting flu shots, small day surgeries etc..

I had a day surgery for removing my wisdom teeth, wore a dress and pumps for that. No issues - all I remember is walking out the fire exit staircase of the building afterwards (which is correct) but I don't remember anything else after being given the anaestheticy stuff...

I've had ultrasounds done in high heels - well I had to take my skirt and heels off for a leg mapping ultrasound - took 2 hrs to complete.

I get me eye exams done in heels.

Often with exams they make me step out of heels for some procedures -

I get a periodic leg waxing - and usually I wear a skirt and heels (sometimes loose shorts and lower heels)

Weekly spray tanning - definitely loose fitting clothing - so a dress & mules is ideal - loose fitting clothing is essential to avoid lines/marks in the end tan.

I do everything in high heels - except for sports med - that is for trainers! I wouldn't be silly enough to wear high heels there. They know I wear high heels because I've told them - and I've had to take heels in at their request.

Most of the time all I get is how do you wear those heels?  - aren't you cold? - don't you get a sore back in those?   and heaps of compliments too. Heaps of compliments from guys and girls. More questions of how do type from the girls.   No negativity at all.   Sometimes a little oh my because perhaps heels aren't suitable - but if you can wear them - why not wear them? They are nicer to wear after all!

Sounds like there is a good story to this one!

I was having venous mapping done on both legs - takes at least 2 hrs sitting/lying on the bed with a specialist ultrasound operator.

Beforehand I was told to undress except for my undies and put a gown on, which I did, and then I walked through the corridoors to one of the rooms for scanning etc to meet the sonographer (I think that was the title? - sounds better than technician) . She was great - did a fantastic thorough job - she had to scan my legs from the inner ankle right up the inner thigh into my groin - and she complimented me on my legs.  She asked me if I wore high heels - she hadn't seen me arrive (I don't think) - I told her yes - she said she guessed from the slight bunions I have and the shape of my toes when relaxed - which are a little offset (due to wearing pointy shoes most of the time).

When I got changed back in the other room later I figured someone had been looking at my heels because I'm sure I hadn't left them like I found them - but I couldn't be sure...Someone probably tried my heels on while I was down the hallway for 2 hrs....

Well I have not worn my heels to the dentist yet; have dentures no reason to go until I break them or need new. But I would wear my heels to the dentist.

I feel comfortable wearing my heels where ever I go. I do, though, hesitate just a little when I have to go into a Lowes, Ace Hardware or stores like that. It is at those places I just have to walk in like I have nothing to be ashamed of and I don't.

So wear your heels where ever you go. Maybe one day society will catch up with out shoe choices.

I have carried a couple of 2 by 4's on my shoulder while walking in Victoria's Secret Stilettos thru a Home Depot.  And I'm also over 60.  You need to own it.

I've never carried timber/lumbar in high heels!!! (maybe small small stuff) Carrying stuff in high heels isn't fun. Last time I shifted house I had to wear running shoes.

I usually get someone to carry stuff for me when I buy large items. I bought some cement bags end of last year and was in heels, and they loaded them for me into the boot of my car! I get treated a bit like a girl - extended some of those courtesies - which I don't say no to - because it can be damn hard carrying awkward stuff in heels! Do-able but hard work.

Awesome!!

Well done. Its really easy once you get started! I found I got more and more confident the more I wore high heels out.

As long as you dress well, act confident you will be fine.

The more you do it your confidence will swell. High heels are confidence building - they can be daunting but they also give confidence too!

Great post! Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope it gives encouragement to other guys here who might want to go public in heels but are too afraid to do so. You handled yourself very well! And it does get easier every time, as you will see. Congratulations on the big step!

My experiences have been very similar.  Most folks don't care, some look, maybe giggle and that's all.  And then some may even give you a compliment, that is always nice.  As Steve said, it get's easier each time.  Enjoy wearing your heels !!!!   Have fun...  sf

Hi all,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I wore my heels to the dentist today :D Heres how it went down. I drove down to the dentist and sat in my car for a while, feeling a bit sick and nervous I finally grow some balls and walked in. There was the receptionist at her dest and a lady in the waiting room.  They had hard wooden floors so they both would have known i was wearing heels. Nothing was said to me. When i went into see the dentist she had a look of shock on her face, she definitely had seen my heels and skin tight jeans. Normal conversation took place, about how was your day? have you been busy etc etc. and then when i opened my mouth just before she started she said “i like your heels, how do you walk in such high heels”. I said with great practice. She then said “ i used to wear high heels like that but i can’t anymore.’ The female assistant didn’t say anything the whole time she was a bit younger and probably didn’t know what to think or where to look. After the appointment i walked out to pay nobody was in waiting room.  We chatted for a bit more then i left. I was so happy with this experience i decided to go to the local department store and look at some more heels. Walked in the store and walked around the edge of the store where nobody could have seen me. When i got to the shoe section two female workers were there. i could see them smiling an giggling. The younger one in her late teens went off to tell her work mates, as i saw another couple  of female staff members come over to look. nothing was said just smiles. I left with out buying anything as they didn’t have my sizes. Next  I went to go get an hour long thai massage. Lady didn’t say anything to me when i walked in during or when i left. Its like she didn’t notice or didn’t care. What an exciting outing it was today.

Going shoe shopping or browsing I know the reaction you gotten must of felt awkward. Usually SA are trying to be courteous but the giggles would effect my phyche while shopping. Suppose some SA who seen me do the same at first running away not wanting to laugh openly  stare or react to offend me with any help I needed. Either way I notice SA  disaproval no matter how subtle they all try to act busy. Curious did you ask SA for sizing? Or there standard bug off reply, we don’t have or make heels in your size, sir!

Nice pic and experience you shared. Find female dentist often are polite nice people. Maybe because what they are going to overcharge me for the appointment and work done is there reaction getting back or the last laugh. Why offend paying customer thinking to herself I could buy pair of designer heels from his visit.

While the single dentist assistant’s receptionist often hit on me completmenting my features very aware of everything, notably my teeth including the married dentist. May try going in with heels and skinny leggings to my attractive female dentist. Do feel it would be unforgettable memory for everyone involved.

Doubt I could do it without laughing at 600 lbs gorilla in the room. More they ignore my outfit more I know they notice, difficult to keep a straight face. Which is necessary in the dentist chair... They may need to gas me, then I can record there comments about my style with my phone. Who knows what may happen..

You know, this exact thing Always happens to me, too. Once I've gone to one place, I want to go to ALL of the places in heels. Even better when I have a shaven face!
