They make so much money the prestige of a great golf course or two is worth the loss. I was playing an occasional PGA tour course for $100 including cart and food at the turn plus any additional holes you can play. The gamblers were paying. Shyheels
The trick is not to be one of their “customers” but give the gambling a miss and enjoy the cheap come-ons they use to lure in the mugs

mlroseplant
In my lifetime, I've seen gambling go from being completely illegal to full-blown casino here in Iowa. I don't see that as a positive, but I will say that as a band, Prairie Meadows (local casino with the following slogan) was indeed my "favorite place to play." They paid twice as much as any other gig as the time, and we were done by midnight! I cannot say what the reaction would have been to my heels, as I didn't wear them at the time. I did wear regular cowboy boots, as we played both types of music--Country AND Western. 1

SF
Were putt'in the band back together..... Well, I am not a gambler, but the wife is - hmmmm. So far the accounts are solvent, and she does "win" sometimes. When she gambles I usually wander around in my heels (casinos are a great place for that) and sometimes we both visit the spa for haircuts and pedicures. Or I hang out by the pool, take a drive in the countryside, go shopping or go for a hike. When I am at the casino I double my money, I fold it in half and put it in my pocket! smile.... sf PS While there we did see Chris Rock, funny guy. 2 "Why should girls have all the fun!!" HappyinHeels
mlroseplant makes a great point about the growth of gambling over the decades. It went from legal only in the state of Nevada and the city of Atlantic City, New Jersey in the 1970's to being widespread now. People have always gambled on sports games via tacitly accepted office pools, card games at someone's house on a weekend, or more organized gambling at a "members only" backroom at a nightclub. States and provinces always got revenue from tobacco and liquor so why would gambling be any different? Certain states have a much harder time balancing their budgets so they look to gambling as a way to attempt to correct that. Our neighbouring state of Illinois is one such example. They allow casinos, video slots in bars, and sports betting as long as one is physically present in the state. But Illinois also has the worst funded state pension system of all 50 states. You simply cannot plug that kind of gap with just gambling revenue but they are trying anyway. The operation of casinos also give states some political cover as they are nearly all run entirely or partially by Native Americans or First Nations in Canada. All such governments can say they have given these recognized tribes and nations some means of self determination. That may be true or it may be an illusion. Casinos , except those in Las Vegas, tend to attract those who can least afford a hit to the wallet/pocketbook. They smoke budget cigarettes and drink budget beer live in trailers or not so nice neighbourhoods and spend hours and hours in casinos. Money being transferred from people who largely aren't well-off to the Indian casinos all over the continent. The tribes get their revenue and the state/province gets their cut. I don't paint the picture perhaps the states and provinces want you to see just what I do see. I say all this as one who is Native American but the gambling neither benefits nor bothers me. It's just another revenue scheme. Honest and transparent opinion is all you'll get here. HinH
Rockpup
Not exactly on topic, but for $75k you can buy a lot of heels. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/leg-lengthening-surgeon-says-software-165430529.html (formerly known as "JimC")

I'd kind of like to see the finished product proportionally. So you lengthen one bone (well, two) to get all your additional height. That just doesn't seem like it would be satisfactory, either from a physics or an aesthetic standpoint.

I agree - and end up with your two legs stretched to slightly different lengths and you would spend the rest of your life walking round in circles! Cali
I have seen this on TV years ago that surgeons in China was doing this. They cut the bone and insert rods so they can separate the bones and keep them aligned. My neighbor's son had a bone problem where they had to removed some of one femur when he was very young, so one leg was shorter that the other. When he was about 10, surgeons in California "grew" his leg longer (this way) so that he could have a more normal life. It worked! He is fine now. Mr. X
I like seeing these articles that state men wearing heels is starting to catch on. But all they show is pictures of male models on the runway wearing outfits and heels that can only be worn on the runway. No man on the street would be caught dead in any of those heels or outfits, even if it was more socially acceptable. Until we start seeing men in heels at places like home depot and starbucks for example, that statement for me will always be false!
Shyheels
Yes, it’s just something to grab a headline and be noticed. All of the runway stuff is outlandish and done mainly for notoriety. It’s not like you could go sit in Waterloo Station and see men in heels arriving in the city for work
CAT
I think the heels in these pictures are ugly. When you see these shoes on men it will never take off. Show a normal pair of heels on a normally dressed guy be it in a pair of jeans a skirt or dress pants or leggings even. But when you see these ridiculous outfits it makes us look like idiots
Shyheels
It doesn't make us look like idiots, but rather it makes the idea of men wearing heels seem idiotic. On the other hand the looks worn by many menbers members of this forum - if photographed stylishly and presented on the pages of a glossy magazine would go far towards selling the idea of men in heels to a skeptical public. But becsause we wear them naturally, without affectation, there's no clickbait angle, no gasp - ad so no interest. Shock sells - or as they used to say, if it bleeds it leads

Just aggravating when I see this stuff , from my point of view, guys wearing heels will never be mainstream. I agree if they were to show more normal outfits AND heels that someone like wear out of there house to a dinner it would go a lot farther to promote “our cause” rather then seeing someone in an outfit they have in a lot of these articles. Even I would cringe if I were out and about in a typical “CAT” outfit and came across someone in one of these outfits
Shyheels
One difference is that people here generally take a lot of trouble to look presentable and dress tastefully - your CAT style, for example, may be very different to what I would wear but I totally admire the good taste and panache with which you put the look together. Collectively we present a great variety of styles which offer looks that would suit the tastes a far, far wider range of people than those pit together by naval gazing designers whose imagination is limited to the shock value of the outlandish

I am reminded of the two woman chatting at a dinner party. One told the other that she had an ancestor who was killed at Waterloo. The other asked (innocently): 'Really - which platform?' . The first responded (disdainfully): 'As if that mattered.'.

SF
Well I am just a regular guy who likes to wear "regular" gals high heels, unlike the, in my opinion, bizarre mag pics shown above. Those heels don't look attractive on guys or on a gals. Sometimes those "fashion" folks are out of touch with reality, my reality at least. Smile sf 3 "Why should girls have all the fun!!"
