The High Heeled Ruminations Of Melrose Plant

I did it. Here are the first 5 pairs to go. You'll notice that three of them are identical except for color. I've finally decided after messing around with these Vera Wang "Talli" shoes for 6 years, yes, that's 6 years, they are never going to straighten up and fly right, so I'm getting rid of them. This despite the fact that they are in possibly my favorite category of closed shoes, namely high heeled loafers. It's not that they're unwearable, but they have just never stretched out like I thought they might. I think the problem lies in the fact that the toe box is not big enough in the vertical dimension, causing my toes to go numb after about half an hour, and I don't know of anything you can do about that.

Michael Kors wedge: Digs a hole in the side of my ankle unless I wear a band-aid. Not a big wedge fan anyway, and with these in particular you have to actually go to the trouble of buckling up every time you put them on, and unbuckling when you take them off, not really my style. Plus, they're kind of clompy when you walk. Gone.

Aldo platform oxfords: Just flat-out too small. Euro 39 does not translate to U.S.W. 9 like many conversion charts proclaim, especially with Aldo. I should know better by now. Besides, they kinda ugly. I have seen videos of myself wearing these. I was a bit taken aback by their lack of charm.

Since this picture was taken, I have culled another pair, unfortunately another loafer style pump. I believe this is Michael Kors also, and it's just too small. This one's a mystery--it's size 9, I've had plenty of other MK shoes over the years in size 9, but this one's too small.

On edit: I guess I should read through some of my previous posts before posting again, as I seem to be repeating myself. At least I did what I said I was going to do, and for the reasons stated. But now you have pictorial evidence!

Are you going to sell them?

I used to do that, but with financial stability comes laziness. I donated them all. The last round I went through I actually trashed about half of them because that's where they really belonged.

Too bad, i have a heeled buddy who'd love the two thinner heeled loafers. He's your size. He's shy about shopping. Would have paid the shipping. Next let.me know what moving on from, even if they are worn.

Sure wish I'd have known that 24 hours sooner. Shoot me a message, I've got some more that I don't necessarily want to get rid of, but I'd be willing to for the right person.

Ya know, if he wants them bad enough, I can probably get them back for like 5 bucks. This has happened to me before. My wife has actually dragged home shoes that I had donated the week before. I am not making this up!

Just messaged you. May also be interested in those others you mentioned. Definitely if you can buy back the three at 8 oclock to 12 in the dial.

Evidently, there ain't nothing going on here. Which is fine, I waste enough of my time on this place as it is. I'll just keep on doing what it is I do in real life.

Because of the war Ukraine our high heel passion seems to be of a very low interest compared to what the people there have to bear.

So here is the reason why I don't wear generously cut full legged trousers anymore. For some, I suppose it would be a reason to wear them. I did clean up the shoes somewhat before I wore them. It's been a while.

Such as brushing-up on your English grammar?  :reading:   I suggest 'ain't never nothing' would be better!  🤓

Mildly amusing and helpful, but a little sloppy in places and, that aside, also loses something when translated into proper English.   :study:

It is my habit to write in the vernacular for some odd reason.

What I really want to talk about today, however, is the fact that I've had a long string of that bad luck lately when it comes to shoe purchases. In fact, I should probably get all of my bad luck shoes together in one place and take a picture of before deep-sixing them. I mean, the only pair of shoes I've bought recently that are not self destructing in some way while simultaneously actually fitting my feet are the pair of sparkly silver sandals, which I have no idea under what circumstances I would ever wear them. That is all.

It happens in streaks.  I only purchase new heels. I have had times where I had several on-line purchases in a row that I  returned the heels because they didn't fit.  Frustrating indeed!

I find it very difficult to write in the vernacular - there isn't enough light in there.  The summerhouse is better.

Ok, I get it. I had to actually look it up, but it was worth it. You always challenge me, Mr Puffer.

The supply chain disruptions over the last 2 years may have affected quality.  I have been working as a consultant for a footwear company the last 2 years, and they have had to switch a lot of their suppliers.  The product might look the same to the consumer, but some of these shoes are now being made by totally different factories and suppliers that they may have never used in the past.  I imagine this could affect quality.

I'll have to fill in the details later, but I did get a refund for my latest purchase, despite the fact that I specifically said I didn't want one.

I'm not sure if these 'slides' are your style, melrose - heels not nearly high enough? - but interesting that ASOS is doing them in sizes to UK12.

I like sandals but they both seem to combine clumpiness with being a tad too femme, so not for me.

Indeed. The worst of both worlds, and square toes besides. It's not that I would never consider something that low, it's just that if I'm going to do it, I want something that's at least a little bit cute, such as the following. I, not being subject to the constraints of needing extra large sizing, of course.

Sandals are my preferred style, I like them and the climate where I live allows one to wear sandals year round, which is nice.  I have these very similar pair to the ones you pictured above.  The are "almost wedges" from Payless Shoes around 3 inches high.  I have had them for a few years now and they are still in good shape.  Comfy, easy on and off and a tiny bit "blingy" (cute?) as well.  I like 'em.  Sometimes it's good to be cute.  Smile...  sf

These are styles that I love to wear, as I have many pairs of them in various colors. I even ordered two new pairs from Penny's one in an orange color and one in a bright pink. Wearing these sandals, I always have a nice pedi usually in red but bright pink for October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Happy Heeling,

The pair on the left is not that bad, except for the extremely squared-off toe. Have you embraced this shape of toe, or is it just the style of heel that you're seeing there? I find square toes to be unflattering, especially in a sandal. On the other hand, another troubling trend is the pointy-toed sandal. I dislike this also, and for the same reason. It simply does not compliment the shape of an actual foot, which with sandals, you can directly compare the two.

I too prefer Almond shape heels.  Pointed heels where the toes of the shoe's arrives before you get there just don't agree with my toe box. And I don' like the look of the squared off toe either.  But women's shoes have such variety that I don't need to consider these styles.

All wide square toe footwear reminds me of things like The Landing of the Pilgrim Fathers, for some reason:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/The_landing_of_the_pilgrim_fathers%2C_in_America._A.D._1620_LCCN2003671548.jpg

The shape just looks so manufactured, as opposed to designed, following some contour.  But that wide square toe look is still a look, just not one that I like.
