Shafted Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Found a new thread about men wearing high heels. A tough crowd here. For anyone up to a challenge. The posting rate on this thread has been nothing short of rabid. http://www.sodahead.com/living/should-men-wear-high-heels/question-2093163/#comments Shafted, the boots that is! JeffB Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Meh! Nothing I haven't seen before. The usual narrowminded, uninformed nonsense and insults about clothing and shoes being equated with sexual orientation, yadda, yadda, yadda! I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
Tacchi Alti Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Wow! Predictable, though, with all the bigoted knee-jerk reactions and common misconceptions. Actually, I don't wear heels to make me taller. I wear them because I love the feeling of being perched up on my toes, with my ankles tight, every step a fresh challenge. 'Come, and trip it as ye go On the light fantastic toe.' John Milton
Mr. X Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Meh! Nothing I haven't seen before. The usual narrowminded, uninformed nonsense and insults about clothing and shoes being equated with sexual orientation, yadda, yadda, yadda! I totally agree!
Shafted Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Well I took a stab at this thread. It was pretty much a drop in a lake so to speak. It's not the easiest thread structure to understand but it appears that I went unnoticed or ignored. It looks like people comment based on mainly the inital article without even reading the thread. FreshinHeels Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Still also a lot of reactions saying go for it if they want, so not all bad. In the process of becoming the person I always was...but didn't dare to let her come out
kikepa Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Too close-minded to bother, unless I'd care to hit it with a logic bomb. Something along the lines of: Ooh! Gross! Yuck! Eww!" and dozens of other utterly mindless, illogical reactions later, a few individuals on this forum began realizing that fashion is all about change, and that means pushing the status quo, rather than defending it. For those individuals..." Might work. Those who really care about us don't make a fuss about what we wear. Those who make a fuss about what we wear really don't care about us.
Foxyheels Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Added a response and promised one girl I could prove I was a man as her comment suggested we were not. High heels are the shoes I choose to put on, respect my choice as I repect yours.
Gudulitooo Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Shafted, I stumbled on your comment and my first reaction was to think you could add more humor to it. We are speaking about garments, not life and death !!
Shafted Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Being humorous about it was not my point. Laying the reality of "men in heels" for all to see was. The negative posters are in great quantity there so I felt the need to be careful to avoid giving them further ammunition. Shafted, the boots that is! Gudulitooo Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Shafted, yes I also understood that, but it could also be exactly the contrary : Taking too much to heart this issue can also give them ammunition : it explains where to hit. Time is on our side while the idea slowly germinate in their head.
Shafted Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Just checking the thread again they seem to be at a loss for words to my post, so my approach seems to have been the right one. benno Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 This kind of trash just isn't worth the time of day. Keyboard heros on pointless forums hate other people's cars, let alone their choice of shoes.
radiodave Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 This kind of trash just isn't worth the time of day. Keyboard heros on pointless forums hate other people's cars, let alone their choice of shoes. How true. I am shocked, shocked, I tell you, that an internet poll about men in heels would have anything but positive, encouraging, open-minded replies.
hhboots Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Of course there will be negativity on something like this on a comment thread on an open website. However, there are a decent percentage of open minded comments mixed in... and the voting trend is surprisingly better than I would have suspected: Should Men Wear High Heels? 598 - No - 64% 341 - Yes - 36% That is not too bad really.
roniheels Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 After reading the article, the first thought that came into my mind was, I wonder how many of those people with the radically negative comments toward men wearing high heels would actually say something face-to-face if they saw a man in public in high heels? These are all probably closet heroes.
Shafted Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Well so far I haven't been treated with any disrespect on that thread, but I can't say the same for Foxyheels. I did say it was a tough crowd and that posting had to be done carefully. Shafted, the boots that is! crotchboots-m Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 wearing heels of any kind can get u labeled, its true. but by whom? consider who they are before i want to cower and hide in the shadows. after careful consideration,i think the overwhelming majority of them are people you would rather not be on a first name with anyways.
JeffB Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 After reading the article, the first thought that came into my mind was, I wonder how many of those people with the radically negative comments toward men wearing high heels would actually say something face-to-face if they saw a man in public in high heels? These are all probably closet heroes. How many? I'd say none. These losers have all sorts of "internet bravado" but would never say anything publicly. No, those clowns would giggle and snicker and whisper insults behind one's back. That's how they roll. I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
Shafted Posted August 25, 2011 Author Posted August 25, 2011 Wow, I just checked this thread again and so far I've accumulated +4 thumbs up for my original post. Shafted, the boots that is! I did say it was a tough crowd and that posting had to be done carefully. I have had 3 replies to my post. All positive and two from women saying who are encourage me to wear them more out in the open as I stated I wore them under jeans. High heels are the shoes I choose to put on, respect my choice as I repect yours.

All positive and two from women saying who are encourage me to wear them more out in the open as I stated I wore them under jeans. Yeah, already we seem to be starting to see inroads being made there. I just got bumped up again to a +5 thumbs up. We have to remember that most of the bad reactions have been initial posts from people who haven't even read the thread. Just got bumped up to +6 thumbs up. My post is now the forth most thumbed up post. Wel here's an update on the sites voting. Should Men Wear High Heels? 716 - No - 62% 433 - Yes - 38% A 2% improvement. Foxyheels and I are making a difference here. If you are a guy wearing heels as a guy feel free to join in but post carefully. Also my post has been bumped up to +7 thumbs up. Gonna bump out a bad negative to forth place soon. One more thing to add: I haven't given thumbs up or down to any post as I feel this would skew the results. I recommend other posters from here to do the same. Shafted, the boots that is! ChipsHH Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Now, I'm only curious as to who the "Yuki" person is, as their "opinion" is the top of the list. And I rather like it. I'd say more on the topic, but my thoughts escape me at the moment. It had to do with those close-minded individuals, though, so I don't know. Formally "HHDude"
Shafted Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 Just an update here on whats been going on on this thread. I finding some very receptive people here despite the mixed environment. Some of them started as very negative posters. Another thing to look at here is the vote map for this thread. According to the map, North Carolina, New Hampshire and my home state of Maine are generally quite accepting. Granted one of the 9 Maine votes was mine. This is kind of a neat tool for detemining acceptance by state. Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana are slpit 50/50. All other states lean towards No. North Dakota remains unrepresented by votes. Globally the world leans towards No. Shafted, the boots that is! I don't see it as very well-written, personally. I mean, undoubtedly, it was written to be neutral on the issue. But... I don't know. I could be rambling on again about nothing. Then to kick off the whole article with "The end may be near" is not gonna make it seem like it's in our favor. At all. Formally "HHDude"
Shafted Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 Well, I thought I'd update on what's going on on the sodahead thread. Despite the nature of the the thread I've made some friends there and have had enough influence to change a few peoples minds about men who wear high heels. That in and of itself is a good reason for us to participate in forums such as that. It must be done however with the utmost respect to fellow posters (even if they don't agree with you). Foxyheels and were talking about how it is important to participate in the general opinion forums that are not related to high heels or fashion. Shafted, the boots that is! xaphod Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I had a quick squint through some of the comments from the knuckleheads. The one I liked went something along the line of ' ....... but real men wear boots'. Unfortunately, I won't compromise my alter-identity on Yahoo to add the comment:- ..... real men wear boots ...... yes, skin-hugging, knee-high, louboutins with a 6" heel and 1" platform. xa

I almost replied to it myself in a similar fashion but though it would sound a little corny, at least the way I was thinking of answering it. BTW: It's nice to hear from you again.
