JeffB Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 The first stop was the library to return to "Kinky Boots" CD. (Unlike JeffB, who, I'm sure was watching hoops, I managed to watch a movie.) Well, sir, I'll have you know that it's very important that one MUST have priorities to live life by! And my priority on Sunday was watching hoops! So there! Otherwise, sounds like you had quite the good time at the museum and thrift emporium. I'll have to try the museum here sometime in the future and see just what happens! I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
Thighbootguy Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 I went out after work this evening wearing a blue/white striped dress shirt, black leather blazer, jeans, and white leather thigh boots with 5” stilettos. The first stop was a pay at the pump gas station where no one paid any attention. Next I stopped at Sam’s and as usual it was a non event. As I was leaving I noticed a guy over at the service desk looking at me with his eyes out on stems. I commented to the clerk at the exit that it was kind of fun seeing people that had never seen me wearing my boots before. He said that he had seen me in many times but I told him that the guy over at the service desk behind me hadn’t. He glanced over that way and started laughing with me. Next was a stop at Walgreens, and Pets Mart. Again a non event. Lastly I stopped at the nearby Goodwill where a middle aged black lady commented, “Ooh those are nice boot. You sure are working them.” I thanked her and bid her a good evening and she said, “You to hun.” (I get called hun a lot.) The only causality of the evening was my right boot. The leather around the side of the toe came unglued from the sole. I think a simple repair job will fix the problem. It was a quick, but fun, outing. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
roniheels Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Thank you again for sharing your fun outing with us. The other day I wore my black leather thighboots over my jeans, for a change, and since I don't wear them like that all that often, the few places I went to shop I got plenty of looks and a few "stop-talking" moments (people stopped talking to each other and stared). I think if, like you and JeffB, I wore them more like that in public people would probably get used to seeing me in them and the stares would subside. But again, I congratulate you on your brief, but fun outing.

I would say that depending on where you go and the sort of people you happen to encounter, getting stares would be predictable as the sight of a guy wearing women's thigh boots is a bit beyond the norm. But, please take into consideration also that, more often than not, chances are you won't get any stares at all as people are usually too busy going about their own business to bother with anything, or anyone else. The important is to not let the stares and double takes get to you and to enjoy yourself. I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
Thighbootguy Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 roniheels – I read, with interest, your posting on being treated differently where you described part of your outing. That sounded like you had a grand time and I expect to hear more of your outings in thigh boots. If while wearing your boots, you become a frequent customer in a shop, very soon the staff will see you as a remembered customer and treat you like an old friend when you walk in. The boots do have a way of sticking in one’s memory. I agree with JeffB (I usually do) when he says, “chances are you won't get any stares at all as people are usually too busy going about their own business to bother with anything” but it can be kind of a downer when you do go out in thigh boots and nobody notices. After a while the boots become just another pair of shoes. I find myself agreeing with JeffB again, just go out and have fun. Enjoy your boots. Thighbootguy Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 I did a quick shopping trip this morning. I was repairing a lighting fixture on the ceiling of my front porch wearing a grey T-shirt, black leggings and black knee high boots with 2" block heels. A raccoon had chewed through the wiring in the ceiling so I had to pull down part of the ceiling and repair it which meant climbing on a ladder in heels. I needed a part so I headed for the hardware store. Rather than just go out in my work clothes, I pulled on a pair of black leather thigh boots with 4" stilettos, a denim micro skirt, and a black leather blazer. The blazer was longer than the micro skirt. The guy in the store didn't know what to make of his new customer. It took him a minute to recover then he directed me to exactly where the part I needed was shelved. After the hardware store I walked a couple of doors down the mall to a Tuesday Mornings and went in just to look around. I then walked a couple more doors down the mall to a liquor store to refresh my supply of Scotch. Both of these stops were non events. While I was out I headed to WallMart for a couple of additional items. I got my stuff and headed to the register where the gal gave me a nice smile and called me "Hon". I'm starting to wonder why I keep getting called that. As I was leaving the Greeter, middle aged white gal , gave me a big smile and said, "I haven't seen you in here for a while… been busy?" I said I had been and headed on out the door. I was floored that a WallMart greeter had remembered me. I can't think of a job where someone would see more people than that so I guess a guy in thigh boots is memorable. I got home and pulled my knee high boots back on and finished the job. Yesterday when I stopped at the Goodwill, I saw a pair of grey suede thigh boots in a size 10. There was no side zipper so there was no way I could wear them so I left them for someone else. I considered that my humanitarian gesture for the day. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.

I will take both of your advices and continue to wear them in regular places that I frequent and I'll let you know the results. And Jeff, don't worry, as I have said so many times in so many posts, I enjoy every single reaction, positive or negative. Thanks again to both of you for you comments. Oh, and Thighbootguy, kudos to you on your latest outing.
HappyinHeels Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 After reading these posts I started thinking about New York City for some odd reason. It could be I'll be doing some travelling in May and will have the chance to wear different heels and different outfits. It could also be that I was browsing an issue of "In-Style" magazine that was on our table and many of the fabulous shoes pictured are available at stores in NYC. The picture that got my attention the most was the one of actress Rosamund Pike on page 188 of the February issue wearing some stunning Donna Karan platform sandals that I would love to get as a shopping souvenir of going to NYC. We have heard from residents and visitors alike how great NYC is for wearing whatever you want. I imagined what it would be like to go there wearing your highest or sexiest heels and shop in some of those same stores. Now imagine the great service that may await you!! It would be nice to hear some accounts to back this up but my feeling is that NYC is a fairly welcoming place for all kinds of fashion.....and your money of course which goes quickly there. Been there probably a dozen times in my life but not since 2005 so I have an itch to go again, until then I embrace Chicago. HappyinHeels:wavey:

Agreeing with me is always a wise thing to do, given my tremendous wisdom! But seriously, TBG hit the nail on the head when he said that the more people are exposed to something like a guy wearing thigh high boots, the more acclimated they will become to the sight. And besides, what right thinking business owner would WILLINGLY turn away a valued customer wanting to spend money in his establishment simply because of what he wears on his feet? Especially in this crappy economy! I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
Thighbootguy Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I'm working at home this week (one of the miracles of modern communications technology). This morning I took a break and ran over to Sam's for milk and eggs. I wore a long sleeved gray knit top, a denim micro skirt, black leggings, black pull on leather thigh boots with 4" stilettos and a black leather blazer. The hem if the skirt, the hem of the knit top and the bottom of the blazer were all about the same length so I didn't have to wear the skirt but I do like the look so… . This had to be a quick trip so I didn't dawdle in the store but even then, two of the staff greeted me like a long lost customer. I gathered my stuff and headed to the register without incident or comment. The temperature was in the upper 30°sF (2-3°C) which is a little brisk for a micro skirt but the boots and leggings were warm enough to be very comfortable. I am still amazed at how mentally comfortable I am presenting myself this way. The outing was quick but fun and I'll probably stick with this outfit (minus the blazer) for the rest of the afternoon while I'm working. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
Thighbootguy Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 I had a doctor appointment this morning (nothing serious) with a doctor I had never seen before. His practice is in a large office of specialist and there were lots of folks around. I walked in wearing a blue/white striped long sleeved dress shirt, jeans, a black leather blazer and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4" stiletto heels. I spent some time in the waiting room filling out all the forms then very soon a nurse came out and took me back to the exam room. She didn't say anything other than asking about my general health but I did see her looking down at my feet more than once. The boots were obvious but I think she was looking at the heels. The doctor came in and didn’t bat an eye. He was concerned about my hand, not my feet. When I left, I didn't notice anyone giving me any undue attention, other than what a guy in thigh boots with heels normally gets. It has taken a lot of outings for me to be able to say this but, when I'm out my boots are just another pair of shoes. Going out in a skirt is still a special deal, but not the boots. P.S. Those are my boots with 4" heels in the avatar. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
Thighbootguy Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 Friday after work I stopped in the nail shop to have a nail that was coming loose reattached. I was wearing jeans, a blue/white striped long sleeved shirt, and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4" stilettos. To my surprise there was a waiting line. There were two ladies having their nails done and two more waiting. I signed in and had a seat in the waiting area then walked back out to my car to get my PC so I would have something to read. The looks I got were more of surprise than anything else, first at being a guy in a nail salon, and second a guy wearing thigh boots with heels. When the first two ladies left they both gave me a big smile. The gal that normally does my nails saw me in the waiting area and gave me a big smile and wave which probably confused the rest of the patrons. Anyway, I was there for a little more than an hour. On the way home I stopped in Sam's and it was a non event. Sunday was a museum day. I walked in from the far end of the parking lot and the gal at the desk (who had never seen me before) told me the gallery in which the drawing group was meeting. It turned out it was in the main lobby so I spent the afternoon sketching away in full view of all the folks attending the museum. I was concentrating on my drawing but I didn't notice any undue attention. Just another afternoon out in thigh boots. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
Thighbootguy Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 I stopped at Sam’s after work to replenish the larder. The weather was delightfully warm so I wore a long sleeved light blue dress shirt, a denim micro skirt dark hose and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4” stilettos.. Many of the clerks at Sam’s went out of their way to recognize me with a wave and a smile. I got a couple of glances from the other customers but nothing unexpected. The trip was for the most part uneventful. I was running short on time so I had to scurry home. Then next day I went to WallMart, I changer the long sleeved dress shirt for a ¾ length sleeved black knit top headed out to do some shopping for items not available at Sam’s. I parked far enough away from the store’s entrance that I had a nice walk. Surprisingly not too many heads turned. Throughout the outing I did hear a couple OMGs, but not many. As I walked into the store there were two middle aged black ladies sitting on a bench that appraised my outfit and gave me a nice smile. I took my time in the store because I really was enjoying wearing this outfit. I wandered all over the store but finally headed for the register. The clerk (young gal) didn’t bat an eye but she seemed to go out of her way to be helpful. When I walked back to my car I made sure I returned the cart to a cart parking area which was a good distance form my car, just to have an excuse to walk around a bit more. Since there was a Payless in a strip mall next to WallMart, I stopped in to see what was on the shelf. The manager was working on a shelf right by the ladies larger sizes and asked if she could help me find anything. She reached down and picked out an open toe pump with a 3” heel in an 11W and said, “This is a nice heel in a wide.” I thanked her but told her I couldn’t wear an 11 and asked is there were any in a 12 or 13. She said there weren’t but she could check the other stores in the area. I thanked her but declined the offer. Considering what I was wearing I wasn’t surprised but I did think it was interesting that she offered a guy a pair of heels. I doubt if she gets to do that too often. It was a nice couple of outings. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
roniheels Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Nice outings, Thighbootguy. I always enjoy reading about the different places you journey while wearing high heeled thighboots. I am a regular visitor to our city's art museum. Everyone there has seen me the different times in different pairs of high heels. I am always treated cordially. On my last visit, it was very crowded with many people there. Yet there were no stares, comments, eye-rolling at all. Just people enjoying art. Thank you again for sharing your outings with us. You, JeffB, HappyFeat, and others who wear high heels in public, continue to inspire me and give me new ideas on where to wear high heels in public.
Thighbootguy Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 This weekend our local classical music radio station sponsored an annual Kite Fest and it is just what its name implies; two days of kite lovers getting together to watch experts do stunt flying and really huge kites filling the sky. The event attracts thousands of people each day and there is only off-site parking available with shuttle busses. I went on Sunday. I parked at one of the parking sites and headed for the shuttle bus wearing a long sleeve light blue shirt, tight jeans, a baseball cap, and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4" stilettos. I was concerned about being out in the sun for a long time because I tend to turn into a French fry very quickly so the long sleeves and jeans were better than shorts and a knit shirt. The day didn't start well. I managed to trip as I was climbing the steps onto the bus. Other than being one of life's embarrassing moments, I managed to recover my dignity and took a seat on the bus. As the bus started to fill, I offered to hold a baby stroller in the seat next to me. The parents struggling with the stroller were blown away by the unexpected kindness. When we got to the park, I joked with the driver that I would try to make a more graceful exit than I did an entrance. The park is a 200 acre flat spot. They used two soccer fields as sport flying area and the rest of the park for the large kites. There was a lot of walking to do on 4" stilettos. Most of the ground was tightly packed crushed rock but parts of it were soft wet grass with some standing water. There are some folks that are into "thigh boots in mud", but I'm not one of them however, I did make a mess on the heels in the soft dirt. I walked to the flying area and took a seat in the front row of the bleacher. I did hear one wolf whistle but I ignored it and that was the only notice I got the whole day. There were hundreds of folks around me that didn't care what I had on my feet. I chatted with the lady sitting next to me about some of the kites and the flyers. After a couple of hours I walked to the end of the flying area (2 soccer fields) and back then sat in the bleacher for a bit longer. After three and a half hours I was ready to head back to my car so I started walking back to the bus pick up point. I stopped at one of the vendors booths to ask about a kite but didn't get one. There was a long line of folks waiting for the bus. I stood there with all the other folks for at least 30 minutes. When I finally got on the bus, the driver (young black lady) said, "I really like your boots." I smiled and thanked her and took my seat. When I got home and took my boots off, I noticed that my pants legs were soaked. The temperature was in the low 70sF and there was a 20 MPH wind so I didn't think I was getting that warm and I was not uncomfortable, but black leather boots out in the full sun soaked up the heat. I really had a great time. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
roniheels Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Congratulations on what sounded like an interesting and fun outing. I do take my hat off to you for wearing thighboots while outdoors for that length of time. I enjoy wearing thigh boots. But I know that even during the winter, when you are indoors walking around in them, your legs can get warm. Thank you again for another delightful and interesting post.
Thighbootguy Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Last night I went to one of the house concerts I have been attending in Oxford Ohio. I went wearing jeans, a long sleeved light blue dress shirt and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4" stilettos. Oxford is a collage town and most of the folks at these concerts are well educated and really cool, and most of them expect me to be wearing thigh boots. I have mentioned before that this is really great evening where I can go and be with people while wearing boots rather than the loner persona I normally adopt when I'm out shopping. The evening starts with a pot luck dinner. I chatted with most of the folks and sampled all the offerings. One lady brought chocolate coffee cupcakes that had a cowboy boot shaped flag stuck in the top of each one. Several people thought I had brought them. No one even mentioned my boots. In the concert, the living room is set up with folding chairs while the leather sofas are pushed back against the walls. There was a small crowd and I sat at the end of the front row. What I didn't notice was that during the first set, the other two people in the front row moved their chairs back into the second row, leaving me all by myself. It really was the best seat in the house. Between sets we all went back to the food, and I chatted with the performers. After the show the host mentioned that he had just come back from New York and ,"Everybody up there was wearing your boots". I said that with summer coming I might have to wear something else or just wear them with shorts. After three and a half hours that was the only mention of my boots! I had a great time. The performances charged my musical batteries and I was with a great group of people. Like I keep saying, "There just another pair of shoes." I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
roniheels Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I had a great time. The performances charged my musical batteries and I was with a great group of people. Thighbootguy Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I was out and about this weekend wearing jeans, and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4” stilettos. This was supposed to be a Museum weekend but that didn't happen (read on). I needed to go to Sam’s but the Guitar Center store is on the say so I stopped in and bought a capo. While I was there I played my way through all three of the guitar rooms: classical, medium priced steel string, and upper end steel string. I played guitars for at least an hour and neither the sales staff or the other customers seemed put off bu a guy in thigh boots with heels. To play, I'd sit on the high stool in the room and hook my heel over one of the horizontal braces between the legs. It was a very comfortable way to play guitar. In the upper end room, I found a middle of the line Martin that sounded like a top end Martin. Having just spent most of my available capital on Federal taxes, I figured I’d have to pass on this instrument. I went on to Sam’s and had an uneventful shopping trip. I headed back home and put the perishables in the refrigerator. I called the Guitar Center and asked if they had a lay-away plan, and they did. For 10% down they will hold an instrument. I immediately headed back to the store and told the salesman to come into the better guitar room in about 15 minutes. The top end Martins are in a locked case and I told him to bring his key. The instrument I had found was still there and I took it off the wall and kept it in my hands even though other folks came into the room and were playing the instruments. (You don’t let one that sounds this good get away.) The salesman came in and got one of the top end Martins out for me so I could compare the sound. It did sound a little better then the one I had selected but for the price difference and at my playing level, I was quite happy with the one I found (and there is always a better one to aspire to). I told the salesman I wanted it and we proceeded to do the transaction. The staff in the store recognizes me when I come in with my boots on and greet me warmly even though all I had ever purchases was strings and a capo. I suspect they will remember me with or without my boots. For the guitar geeks the one I found is a Martin DCPA4 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar and it has the playing action and almost has the sound of a Martin DC-28E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric. I am one happy thigh booted guitar picker. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
SleekHeels Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 The guitar sounds like a great find, and all the more fun in boots. Your post made me think that wearing heels in public or playing the guitar in public pretty much comes down to the same thing - there's nothing inherently wrong with one or the other, it's just confidence. If you like it, wear it.
radiodave Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Great experience ThighBootGuy, and sounds like you found a nice guitar. I think Guitar Center is one place I could, no I do, spend too much. I picked up a real Fender Stratocaster last year to complement my Kramer XL-3 that my ex-wife gave me. I also had the Kramer fixed up, set up and leveled so it sounds more like it should. People who aren't musical can't figure out why I have two electric guitars. They don't believe me when I say they each have a unique sound .
crotchhiboots Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I understand, to me the sound of Gibsons and Fenders are completely different even B.C.Rich and pevy and Kramers are in different spectrums. 77r90dL lf
Thighbootguy Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 Friday was a work holiday and I had some running around I needed to do so I ventured forth wearing jeans, a gray T-shirt, a black leather blazer and black leather pull on thigh boots with 4” stilettos. The first stop was a muffler shop to have the exhaust system replaced on my car. I got a couple of second looks but that was it. I spent over an hour in the place, sitting by the front counter with customers coming and going all the time. The place has twelve service bays and they were all busy so there were lots of folks passing through. I sat there reading an Oracle tech manual (think Scotty on Star Trek catching up on his technical journals). The next stop was Walgreens where I wandered in and got my stuff, paid for it and left, all without any fuss or bother. I dropped of an old pair of pumps at the cobbler for heel tips. I might be giving them a try if the weather continues to warm up although I’m still more comfortable in thigh boots than I am in pumps. Maybe its time to broaden my horizon. I then stopped at a doctor’s office to confirm an appointment. I don’t think they even noticed my boots. There was a DSW Shoe Warehouse near the doctor’s office so I found a place to park and had a nice long walk to the store. The sales gal that saw me greeted me warmly. I found a couple of pair of 9 West boots in a 12 that fit reasonably well. One pair was a low block heel leather ankle boot that would be great for work; the other pair was a black paten knee high boots with a 4” stiletto that looked great with jeans. I am sitting in a busy shoe store taking off my thigh boots to try on other boots and having a grand time. Unfortunately I am flat broke after the guitar and the exhaust system. If they are still there next paycheck I’ll probably get them. I also looked through the rest of the heels on display and no one even gave me a second glance. By this time I was no more self conscious wearing my thigh boots with heels than any gal would be, probably less because I have worn them so much. I had another nice long walk back to my car. There was a lady looking for a parking space and I told her to follow me. I traded my black leather blazer for a cropped denim jacket what went very well with the jeans and boots. I needed a few things at Sam’s but I took my time and browsed the whole store. I didn’t pay any attention to my boots and neither did anyone else. The last stop was a Kroger super store where I picked up a couple more items. No one paid any attention to my boots. I complemented the register clerk on her eye makeup, which was very nicely done. She beamed and thanked me then I realized that it was nicely enough done that I shouldn’t have noticed but she was happy with the complement. All in all I was out for five hours and had a ball. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
Thighbootguy Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 Under the topic of “Why Quit When Your Having Fun”… I discovered I had lost my hat and realized I had left it at the muffler shop so I went back down, still wearing my boots, and walked in and found my hat, right where I had left it. The guys at the counter just waved and bid me a good day. I stopped at the library and got a couple of books and didn’t raise and eyebrow. I then headed over to the cobbler shop to see if he had the heel tips on the pumps. He did so I picked them up and headed to my favorite thrift emporium where I found a couple of camisoles. There was a guy in the store that was wearing a black leather jacket with a silver skull medallion and male style boots that lased up to his knees. I would have thought biker, but he was also wearing denim slacks that zipped up the back. Had I liked the look I would have complemented him bit I didn’t care for it so I didn’t say anything. He didn’t say anything to me either so we were even. On the way home I noticed a noise that sounded like an exhaust pipe hitting something so I headed back to the muffler shop and asked them to take a look. The mechanic called me out to the bay (heels and all) to see what the problem was. Turns out the exhaust system was fine but I have a collapsed motor mount. Oh well, something else to spend money on after I get my guitar. (There is no danger in letting the mount go that long.) My legs and feet are letting me know I've been running around in heels all day. I am exhausted so I think Ill just "cool my heels" this evening. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
Mr. X Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 As a fellow guitar player I felt I had to chime in here. Never knew there was so many heel guys that play guitar....lol I currently have 3 electrics and 1 acoustic when it comes to guitars. I could talk heels and guitars all day.

JeffB Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Well, I play a pretty mean kazoo! Does that count? Meanwhile, kudos to TBG on his latest outings! I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
roniheels Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Congrats to you and your latest outings. I took guitar lessons when I was very young but didn't stick with it (too hyper and really too young at that time). How hard is it to learn? Were you self-taught or take lessons from an individual? Some friends of mine at work play the guitar and I have always had an interest. Just curious. Thanks again for another great post!
StormClaw Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I must say you have a lot of courage to wear thigh boots openly in public.Coming monday I might wear mine(in my avatar) openly to my friends house. He knows about my love for boots and doesn't mind,so I'm going to wear them 1 because I like the boots, 2 as a joke and see how he reacts What tips do you have for someone who's going to wear thigh boots openly in public?

First and foremost, be calm, cool and collected, act like what you're wearing is no big deal, carry a casual air about you, that way, passersby won't take any serious interest in you. If you act nervous, jittery or furtive, people will invariably wonder what's going on and take notice of you, moreso than you might want. I've worn thigh high boots openly in public for some time now and it's an exciting and exhilarating feeling to say the least, heck, I've even been complimented by complete strangers on what I've worn. The important thing is to ENJOY the experience and you should do well. I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!
