What Makes A Shoe A Stripper Shoe

They have to have a platform, no arguement there, but how high? Can they be chunky heeled or do they have to be stilettos. I have a pair of fluevog prepare hi-steady pumps with 4.5" heels and close to 1.5" platform with curved chunky heels. Could these be classified stripper heels? I wear them to church with sknny jeans. Just wondering if ill get told to dress more reserved. I'm on a blackberry, and its hard to post pics, so just google fluevog prepare hi-steady. Let me know if they are a little hookerish. If they are, that could be cool!

Hmm... I did a google picture search on "stripper shoe" and looked at the result. Platforms are not a necessity, but they are present very often.

In my definition, a stripper shoe has to fulfill the following conditions:

- the one who wears them is a stripper ;-)

- it must have a heel of at least 5 inches, doesn't have to be a stiletto, can also be chunky

- can be a sandal, pump or boot

- often in patent leather, some synthetic material or transparent (e.g. transparent heel)

- often with a platform that is very high, such as 3" or 4"

- often produced by "Pleasers" - they seem to have a market dominating status

- quite frankly, also often not very high quality - synthetic materials, made in China

... or put differently: If you imagine an average girl of above-average beauty going to a location where she could dress up, even with higher heels, and the shoe you are wearing is something she would never consider outside the bedroom, it is probably a stripper shoe.

Not true.

From my asking, the reason they use the jackstand/frankenchrist types of shoes..

-Easy to stand in

-Makes them taller

-CHEAP in price

-Easy to repair ( nailpolish and gorilla glue )

-Can be bought at almost any adult store

In the 80's, strippers wore what are now commonly called ' classic pumps '. They had designs or metal shafts/heels. Some had ankle straps or bows on them. They didnt have jack-stands built on to them but they were still called ' stripper/hooker ' shoes by quite a few people.

Some people are offended when what they might choose to wear these types of shoes and hear such comments. ' PLATFORM! Gotta have a platform! '.. Ok.. 9 miles tall though and you wonder why someone might make an association to whats seen in Porn movies coming out this week?

I'll be the bad guy here and openly say Ive seen some recent porn clips. EVERYONE has seen some kind of porn. If theres any questioning why someone might call those jack-stands.. er.. shoes ' whoreware ', ' Stripper shoes ', go take a look at what elements are promoting such.

Im quite sure if Vivid, WildSensations or any of the other productions companies budgets were expanded, they would be designer labels on the screens. Its not about ' The platform ' but the performance. Like it or not, theres ' platforms ' in almost every scene. Its just a reality that a lot of people dont want to hear about.

Wearing a set of jackstands does NOT make one a hooker or someone whom walks around with a mattress on their back. It would be idiotic to make such an assumption. I can understand the stigmatism or association behind the relations of ' sight ', but thats as far as it should go.

I liked the last part of that one.

I do have a pair of ' pleasers ' with the ' jackstands ' on them. I wont wear them out endless its halloween or for ' humorous '/joking purposes.

Considering my preference for footwear, thigh boots with stiletto heels, I had a bit of a struggle with the notion of wearing “stripper boots”, as they were often referred to. I came to the conclusion that the category of footwear I was wearing was part of the mental image of how I wanted to present myself. I have been posting (preaching) for a long time that your ability to wear heels in public is based on your acceptance of the mental image you have of yourself and having the confidence to make that presentation. The idea of looking in a mirror and liking what you see is another way of saying that. The image of “stripper heels” is grounded on the presentation the wearer wants to make. If you see yourself as presenting an overly/aggressively/invitational sexy image (my definition) then the notion of “stripper” probably applies, and that image will drive your attitude as well as your selection of clothing and footwear to support that image. Be mindful that it is other people option to read the image you are presenting as they want to read it but it is your goal to get them to read it as you want them to read it. Some styles of clothing and footwear are designed to help in the presentation of a sexy image, but clothing selection is done primarily to support the attitude of the wearer. If the image you see looking back at you from the mirror is “stripper”, then you are probably wearing “stripper shoes/boots”. When you are satisfied the image looking back at you, try to see it as someone else would see it (this is tough to do). If you are still happy with the image, it will become the base of attitude you use to form your presentation (the long way of saying confidence). End of sermon. TBG

  • 2 weeks later...

I just remembered having seen Dolly Pardon in a magazine wearing a pair of platforn sandal heels like strippers wear several years before they started showing up on the stripper scene. I actually saw her wearing shoes like that several times. It was probably the early 90s when they started showing up in strip clups. Before that strippers seemed to wear 5-inch pumps without platform which, interestingly, now seems to be a fairly mainstream shoe.

Anything poor quality, extremely high, patent or transparent and slutty enough, should be considered stripper... fluevog definitely are not, because they are EXPENSIVE :) maybe for a "LUXURY" stripper? :) kidding. I personally don't like the kind of "stripper heels". But if I were in the 80s, like ilikekicks posted above, I would probably be into the category. Classic pumps are my love. Very difficult to find these days in reasonable "boat" sizes. Many of them were made of leather... good ol' times when things had QUALITY before anything.

Carissa, WildPair, RushHour, Bakers.. They were all like under 40$ a pair and they are still worn today! Some have survived the times even after general wear over 3 decades ;)

To return to a time when women actually looked feminine and werent wearing car jackstands on their feet.. They had hair, werent covered in all sorts of piercings and colored with ink EVERYWHERE, wore skirts, stockings, nice tops and miniskirts ( Leather miniskirts folks!!! ). Damn.. I miss those days. :(

Whatever the reason, strippers do typically wear heels with platforms significantly higher than 2", which I don't find sexy at all (they look pretty darn silly actually). Along those lines, I used to not like any platforms what-so-ever, but since shoes with 0.5 - 1.5" platforms have become very popular and are found on a majority of heels being sold today, I eventually grew to like them and actually find them to be more comfortable than non-platforms. So I have been converted I guess. ;-)

Pretty much same here.

I'm going to offset the topic a little bit, but hopefully not get us completely off-topic. I have noticed that Asian women seem to be able to get away with certain footwear and fashions that white women cannot. I saw an Asian woman in Costco (warehouse/discount store, for those of you on the other side of the pond) the other week. She was probably about 40 - 45, dressed in a business type skirted suit, and she was wearing. . . wait for it. . . wait for it. . . clear heels! Admittedly, the platform was modest, probably 1 inch or less, but she looked absolutely fabulous! I'm not sure a white woman could have pulled that look off. Also, Asian women seem to have no problem wearing short shorts and stilettos, a look that white women shun, unless they're a celebrity. Hispanic women also do the shorts and heels thing quite often around here. But not at this time of year. It's -6 F/ -22C right now. Ain't NOBODY wearin' no clear heels at the moment.
