I was wondering, if any of you all had "classy" looking platforms. and when i say plats i mean 1"+ so no hidden or any of that. i believe i had some before, but they where too small and didn't keep them. if you have pictures, feel free to post. ;] contest of the "classiest" plat begins

I would say hidden makes them classier, but I think any shoes can be made to appear classy with the right outfit... Not that they will all reach the same level of class. View my pics on webshots... I have a few on there. One pair I feel is the best fit for this is a hidden plat, tan with black toe area.

I USED to have a beautiful, classy pair of platforms.

They were in the 'stripper' mule style - and I bought them from the upmarket UK shoe retailer Russell and Bromley back in 2005. They were a French designer brand, and had a 6" sculpted spike heel and a 1.25" platform. The base was in a bronzed-red-ish carbon fibre, and the uppers were natural Cow-hide......they originally came with a matching clutch bag....and cost £375.00.

They were a limited edition and only 3,000 were made for the UK apparently. Very sadly, they were stolen on holiday 2 years ago, when our hotel was burgled.....

I have a pair of Femme Fetiche black patent leather pumps with a 1.5" platform and 6.5" stiletto high heel. I don't wear them very often anymore, but now and then I'll wear them at night in public while dressed casually and so far they've not drawn too much attention.

The only ones that spring to mind would be these:Louboutin Daffodil (clicky)!

Crazy-high heel, large hidden platform, beautiful sculpting. Looking at them is like falling in love again for me. I'm seriously considering buying replicas of these exact shoes (as there's no way I could hide spending so much on the real thing!)

Chris

Those are very hot looking!

Those are amazing shoes. part of the allure for me is to accentuate the leg. These are the best example of subtle attenuation and I can't wait to find some. At a 7" heel I will be 7 Feet tall. Better be ready for some stares...:irked:

imo absolutely. There are alot of beautiful platform shoes now, especially as our eye is used to them and recognize them as fashionable (which means away from fetish or erotism and implying beeing classy). this was eventually different some 4 years ago. still it is more about the wearer, and not about the shoe. classy shoes can look *unclassy* if the wearer lacks attitude as well.

Its all in the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion - Yes.

Take a surf around the following sites. I think SOME of the styles shown are classy. See if you agree with me:

http://gianmarcolorenzi.com/

http://myworld.ebay.com/primafila-italia/

http://www.rosashoes.com/

You're correct on all three counts. The gianmarcolorenzi.com site wreeked of class.

YES!!! I'll start with some of Di Marni's shoes, but there are so many designers to choose from. I actually prefer most of Di Marni's platforms to most of their non platform offerings. For me it's not about the platform or even the heel height that makes a shoe classy. It's all about concept, how it's then made real (materials and styling cues and touches) and most importantly context. I am in total agreement with Pata, the person needs to be able to pull the shoes off. If not the shoes take over. Cheers, Ben

the ones in your avatas are quite classy IMO. Also 'classy' can depend on the outfit it is worn with. New look last season did a wide range of platform heels all with 6inch heels and 1.5 platforms. Styles ranged from closed round toe courts, slingback courts (like my avatar) open toe slingbacks and some sandal styles in various colours. there are quite a few on ebay if you keep your eyes out and most of them look pretty decent compared to the stripper styles from fetish manufacturers pleaser etc

elite-heels has amazing sense for (even very high) platforms too and has to be mentioned here I think. the shoes might be considered fetish at that height (but for sure not *stripper shoes even inspite of my outfit here lol), some vintage touch too but very very classy IMO!!! sorry they are partly overexposed here, it is just some stills from a videoclip to show the shoes, - they are light grey suede & dark red sole.

I have always thought plats that were much over 1" were very much stripper / fetish oriented. However, more recently 1½" - 2" plats are showing up on red carpets, in the press, and such. I have even seen them around my area in places I wouldn't expect to see them.

So, perhaps they are becoming a bit more common place, still not my favorite style, but who knows maybe someday. A few of the examples posted in this thread are rather nice to look at, but all of them seem to come at a rather high price.

i can vouch first hand for the elegance and quality of the shoes that come from eliteheels. They specialise in higher than high street styles a lot but in such a style that isnt fetishy but fashionable. I ordered some 6in pointed courts and they looked absolutely fantastic on and off, shapes in all the right places plenty of padding inside and high quality material. sadly i had to send them back as i found them quite narrow for my wide feet :irked:

I am not usually a platform fan at all. I came across this vid though. It is Ann Hathaway on "Chelsea lately." She is wearing some super high heels. And there doesn't appear to be too much of a platform for the high height of the heels. There is a platform obviously, but the platform is hidden. Plus the colour of the shoes also detracts from any platform that does exist. Check it out and let me know what you think? And if anyone can identify the shoes it would be appreciated.

Those are nice but classy, I think not. The same heel with the same relative heel to inner sole proportion would be so much classier and honestly much sexier without the platform. I love my heels but platforms are not as comfortble, no flex under the ball of the foot, nor are they as sexy as my non-platformed pumps. The new platformed shoes are fine (not 70's plats) but still hold no comparison to heels with regular soles.

Suely its all in the eye on the beholder .....and I believe my taste changes over time. I for one prefer to see and think a platform (done well) makes a shoe look classier right now. The grey elite-heel peep toes shown by Pata look both classier and and sexier than an equivalent heel without the platform. I'm sure though my opinions (and shoe collection) will change (slowly) again in future as fashion continues to evolve.

I also disagree with the point of view that platforms are not as comfortable. On the contrary I find platforms are very comfortable and generally more comfortable than heels without platforms . The reduced flex and often increased space in the toe box, the reduced sensitivity to small stones and particles on the path, as well as the, dare I say it, elevation to ease the wearabilty of a very high heel.
