Following the Chicago Meet this past week, the topic of when the next North American High Heel Meet should be and where? The last North American High Heel Meet was in February 2009 in Chicago. To help us plan for the next meet we have posted a poll to gauge time of year preference and location. We look forward to hearing your feedback and determining what works for the most members. Now eleven votes with Las Vegas grabbing the most so far at 5. FYI, note from SpikesMike..... "David. Was thinking last night ( dangerous ) about the possible venues you mentioned. The (A.E.E.) is being held in Las Vegas, Jan. 8 & 9, 2011. It's open to the public. It may not be for everyone, but it would be a place for the coming out heelers to go. Also, there is a place off the strip, a Restaurant and Show that may also be a good location to meet. Can't remember the name of the place. SpikesMike." Would these dates be good for you to travel to Vegas, if Vegas is the most popular? David

I voted for three western cities (Vancouver, SF, and LV) all within reasonable distance from where I am. Any of them would work well for me. If it is in one of these three locations, there is a really decent chance I could make it. If it is any of the other locations however, I probably couldn't pull it off.

GF agreed to going to Las Vegas, better for me as well she wanted to go back to Florida and I was not to keen to going right back.

i voted for new york in march just because NY is closer. I do like vegas too but i like boots and its to warm there lol. And i picked march because its my birthday month.

The United States is a very large country. Lot of area between borders and oceans. Travel is really expensive these days. So, why not have "regional heelmeets?" New york City, Atlanta, Houston, Tex., Los Angels, (or San Francisco -- or both) and Seattle? You might also add Minneapolis, Boston and Chicago to the list),

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

Bubba136. I noticed you failed to mention Las Vegas on your prefered list. Las Vegas is the top choice to date.Travel is expensive. I live in Ohio and it is still going to cost me, weather I go to New York or San Francisco. As a place with a limitless venues, Vegas has the others Out matched. I believe some of our high heelers are choosing locations for thair convenience. If the 2nd Nonth American Annuel High Heel Meet was/is a choice between Pittsburg ( where I could drive ) and the trip out west, I would choose ($) Las Vegas. Mike

I didn't intentionally leave it out. Besides,I was just floating an idea...and like all ideas, it would need fine tuning before it became workable. The cities aren't important...the idea was the thing.

Canton Ohio is a very central location for the whole US but doesn't have the sites of all those other places unfortunately. Just a thought. Please try to make the Canton heel meet on the 6th of Nov. TU Johnieheel:wavey:

Funny thing is that most any time, I could be there in under an hour, but I'll be in Bengal land unless something changes between then and now

Although it's too early for me to know if I could attend, I'd say that Vegas would be the best for a heel meet, definitely THE best spot for non veteran heelers. We all know that "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" You'll probably be able to wear your heels anywhere you want without fear. Everyone in Vegas is having too good of a time for negativity towards a persons outfit. Establishments want your business and wont care whats on your feet as long as youre willing to spend some cash. Even the alpha males wont care. Think of Vegas as Halloween all year round. In NY, people might ignore or not care about a man in heels. In Vegas, they might actually think that its cool. Another advantage of Vegas over NY are the hotel prices. NY is way more expensive and Vegas has tons of hotel options. Even the high end hotels in Vegas are way cheaper, simply because the hotels want to you to gamble, therefore reducing the room price. Vegas also offers the option of wearing various footwear during the proposed months. Most of the places suggested would only be good either for hot or cold weather. January isnt a good time to go to Vegas, mainly because its trade show season and prices go up.Spring is a better bet. Thats my 2 cents...

I echo the thoughts of Max and voted for Vegas in the spring. With the challenging economic climate and gaming revenue down, it is tough to find another place in the world where you can get such quality accomodations for the dollar spent. A hotel the same quality as the Bellagio, Mirage, Wynn or many others would cost way more in most places. So best bang for your buck! I get down there about 3 or 4 times a year, and most people wouln't care how you dressed or looked like if you are well mannered and willing to spend money. Was in Vegas this March and the weather was perfect. Also remembered hitting 4 sevens playing video poker. First time I ever won wearing thigh high boots (at the Gold Coast)! If the event is held in Vegas, I suggest anyone planning to go so up on line for a players card. I know with the Boyd Gaming Group, the B Connected card will get you 10% off your reservation if booked online. You can save enough to buy another pair of stilettos! Speaking of buying, people go to Vegas for two other great reasons other than gambling: shopping and dining out. Thats half the fun for me. And the values are great if you know where to look. Freshly shucked oysters for $1 each at Sea Blue at the MGM Grand during happy hour. How can you beat that?? Not to sound like a hypocrite, I am going to Vegas in Jan after the Christmas rush to decompress. But I go with the knowlege that I'll freeze my ass off and will be packing a toque and winter gloves. The trip I planned for April to attend Rockabilly Weekend will be a lot nicer, weatherwise. Anyhow, thats my two cents worth. And lucky for us Canadians, $1 Canadian is pretty close to one greenback. I still remeber the days a $5 bet was equal to $7.50 back home. Cheers! Lorenziluvrr

Way too many times. Between 15 and 20 I think, my business has taken me there 3 or 4 times per year for quite a while. And I really hate the place - to the point that I would say that I'd prefer Minneapolis, Little Rock, or even Anchorage over Vegas. McCarran is nice and functional, if it weren't for those one-armed bandits greeting you the second you exit the jetway. But once out of the door the decadence starts suffocating you. But that's just how I feel about it, I'm not trying to convince anyone that my opinion carries more weight than yours or anyone else's. :)

What's all the fuss about?

At some point we have to end the poll; finalize the results; name the location and date; then begin the logistical planning/confirming who is attending; and finally enjoy the 2nd Annual North America Heel Meet! Lets wrap up voting Dec 31st and start the new year with the results. Hope that works for everyone? Currently it would appear, combined with a poll running simultaneously at Bootshare, that the lead location is Las Vegas and that April is shaping up to be the month. David

There are lots and lots of very high heels in Las Vegas, at least in the casino areas, but all on women from what I have seen. I go there only for special events. The main drag is very large and walking distances to anywhere are quite long, partly due to the large sizes of the big hotel properties on the strip. You can walk your feet off even in athletic shoes. Even the large casinos can involve fairly long walks from the rooms. The last hotel I was in was the Wynn. Very elegant, but lots of shiny and slippery looking floors in some areas.

Posted

BobHH I am having mixed signels here. I love seeing lots of women wearing high heels. I love having places to go while wearing stilettos. They have rental cars and busses in Las Vegas for long trips. When I was merried, my wife and I wore nothing less than 5" heels on the floors in those casinos. Never experienced a negative look or remark. Sounds to me like your practicing something of a back door complaint. Say it isn't so. Mike

My only complaint is that walking distances on the strip are quite long to get "anywhere." Making a round trip between Luxor and Paris Las Vegas, for instance, is long enough even in Nike's (trainers), especially stopping in Bellagio, and I don't think I would attempt it in heels. It would be fine in a hotel and casino, at least, though. I never seem to be in Las Vegas without being with scads of people I work with almost daily, so I would probably never wear heels with them, so I have never had the opportunity to try. I was a little concerned about the shiny marble floors in the Wynn between the casino and the ballrooms, which is a fair distance, and what they would be like. But I probably won't get the chance to be there in heels with a woman, so I'm envious of anyone who can.

The practical aspect mentioned above is a fact - Vegas is not heel friendly due to the horizontal spread. On the casino floors themselves, there is carpet everywhere, so that is a good thing for the stiletto fans, but lobbies indeed tend to be bursting with marble. The most important reason, however, why I have a dislike towards Vegas is that it is actually a very conservative place - from a freestyle fashion perspective, that is. Vegas exists primarily for its liberal attitude towards gambling, old-school sexual escapades, and abundant booze. Somebody might not agree about this, as it is also the #1 conference destination in the US, and I have to say that I have been to absolutely excellent restaurants in Vegas as well, but those are actually a side effect of the adult entertainment industry. Now, it is true that you can wear high heels in Vegas without repercussions, as you can in pretty much every other western city in the world. The town, by its sheer design, promotes the pushing of boundaries, and for high heel wearing people that may make the difference between being comfortable and not being comfortable in heels in public. If you are of the more more conservative type but are walking around with an escort girl in Vegas, and see a bunch of men in high heels, a "don't ask, don't tell" approach seems a good way of dealing with the situation. Compare this to, say, New York, San Francisco, Stockholm, London or Amsterdam, where you are much more likely to have an actual appreciation for being fashion-forward. I wear high heels pretty much everywhere, including Las Vegas. The vast majority of comments I receive, or the discussions I end up into, are out of curiosity, interest, or appreciation - a phenomenon most heel wearers (male or female) are familiar with. In Vegas you get NO comments because of the "I haven't seen you, you haven't seen me" protocol, with the exception of Casino Security, who will approach you if you are hanging around without spending money. So, if you want to be tolerated and invisible because you all are doing something equally naughty - Las Vegas is great. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. If you want to engage in a fashion forward movement and interact with society in a way that is more likely to have a lasting result, such as having genuine discussions with people you run into, any other destination is better. Since I do not feel I have anything to hide, on the contrary, I refuse to go to a place designed for people to live out desires they actually do not endorse when back home - as that would reinforce the perception that wearing high heels is wrong. But hey, that's just my view, I'm not trying to sway the majority here.

:) Hello.....I know that I am very rarely on here and most of you may not know who I am, but I am looking forward to the meet. The only problem that I have is that we need to set a place and date if we are to do it this winter because of all the people that will be taking vacations at this time of year. We will need to make flight/hotel reservations/time off from work etc. We need to stop dragging our heels and start stomping. I look forward to meeting all of you. :lmao:

I agree. We need to decide. From my part, independent of location it has to be before April to mesh with my schedule.
