Dawn HH
Hey Guys and Gals:-) Mickey and I haven't fallen off of the planet just yet, although it probably seems that way to everyone. Mickey had to have a revision surgery on her ankle again making it more time consuming to heal properly. This has been going on since she completely broke it on April 2nd. She is still using a wheelchair and trying to graduate to the use of a walker. With working and my honey-do-list and doing all of the driving there just hasn't been enough time in a day to even think about posting. At the end of the day I have been too tired to even read the posts. I'm going to try to catch up on all of the back news since my last post and hopefully can start to participate on the HH Place again. Don't give up on me yet. I haven't been able to wear my heels for quite a while or do any street-heeling because my joints won't allow that at the present time. We have to get Mickey walking and driving again before my doctors can even think about helping my walking and balancing problems. Her process is extremely slow right now. Since there is only the two of us we have got to get her healthy and then I can see what can be done for me. They tell me that patience is a virtue, so I must have a lot of it. TEE! HEE! So now---on to a lot of reading. It's time to do my homework. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!

Dawn HH
I last wrote to you all in September and here it is December and we are very busy at work and getting into the Holidays once again. Mickey has had a THIRD surgery on her ankle to have all of the hardware that was put into it during her second surgery taken out because of a very serious infection and deformity of the ankle and to prevent her losing that leg as a result. The doctor says that her bones have turned to mush and won't support her weight any more. She now has a brace to give her leg and ankle more support, which seems to help much. If this dose not work, the only alternative left will be to take her leg off. Obviously she and I don't want that to happen. The incision is extremely slow in healing and she has gotten a bit of infection there and is taking anti-biotics to prevent any further complications. Mickey has a nurse coming daily to care for the healing and drainage from that incision. She is confined to a wheel-chair again and the only time I can get her out is for her specialist and doctor appointments which are occurring weekly. The demands for my time are even more than before, so I have given up my reading of the back posts for now and that is also why you haven't heard from me or Mickey for a while. But we are both thinking positive and looking up for the future and better times. So, stick with us for a while longer, my friends, as we move to the brighter end of the tunnel. Mickey didn't want to burden all of our friends with this message, but I felt that you all should be up-dated with this for now. Mickey has told me several times that if her leg must come off that that will be the end and she will give up and die. I keep telling her that she must not think that way that there are alternative things that can be done in the event that that situation arrises and to think positively about the near future. I keep telling her to hang in there for now. My personal situation is worsening slowly, but I must be able to keep driving and to be able to take care of all of Mickey's needs for now, and to keep boosting her moral positively. As the UK fellows would say, I must keep a stiff upper lip. TEE! HEE! Thank you all. Till later---- Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey68 High Heeled Boots Forever! Bubba136
Dear Dawn & Mickey; Thanks for the update. I've been wondering how you two have been getting along. While your news isn't exactly encouraging, I am confident that with spirits as strong as yours, everything will be ok. Have faith in your Doctors and let him guide you through to recovery. Just remember that all of your friends here at hhplace are pulling for you and that you are always in our thoughts and prayers. Trust in God. He will give you the strength to stay the course. Please keep us posted and don't let Mickey give up. There are worse things than losing a leg. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public. shyguy
Hey Dawn and Mickey, good to hear you are both still around. I really do wish Mickey the fastest of recoveries, and both of you take care of yourselves and each other. As Bubba says there are worse things than losing a leg, indeed a friend of mine lost a foot to infection, then his leg, but 6 months later he was walking on an artificial one so that no one would ever know anything different. On a brighter note, you haven't lost anything yet Mickey, and you both have each other still, so don't ever give up. He was so narrow minded he could see through a keyhole with both eyes. raincat
Hi Dawn and Mickey, I also would like to thank you for the update, Dawn. Even though I have not often commented on your postings, they have been followed with interest. You and Mickey have both suffered some tough luck in battling health problems in the last year. Thankfully, it appears that your health is improving, Dawn. Let's hope that Mickey can take hope from that and see that her doctors have what is needed to get her back on the road to better health, too. Godspeed in her recovery. Dawn HH
Hi there, everyone. It may always seem that I have a tale of woe to tell. Such is life, but things happen when you get a few miles on the odometer of your body I guess. Mickey has had another down-turn and incurred another infection in her leg up to her knee this time. She just recently spent another week in the hospital for massive injections of antibiotics and we have had some high level meetings with her PCP, bone, and her CPC infectious doctor about her condition. We were given three choices of what to do about the situation. Time has eliminated the first choice completely by now. The third choice is that the leg must come off in order to save her life and give her a few more years to enjoy here on Earth. We have decided to go with the second choice for now as a last resort before having to go to the final third choice. Mickey has resigned herself that the second choice is to start massive daily intervenes antibiotic infusions four times a day at six, twelve, six and twelve again each day. These take a lot out of her energy and make her sleep a lot, but she knows this must be done and is willing to go through this. This procedure started in the hospital and is continuing in a rehab home where she will be until the middle of February. Her blood must be under constant servaillance to determine if she is getting too much or too little antibiotics. Too little will do her no good and too much could kill her. Even though this is a dire situation, Mickey is getting the best care that can be provided for her. If her leg improves and finally heals over, it could open up again a few months down the road and there will be no choice but that it will have to come off. We have talked this over extensively between us and Mickey feels much better about her situation and she has finally come to the conclusion that if the leg must go, it will go and she will break in a new artificial one. On a more happy note, I am still putting along taking care of the house, the dog, working a few days a week, and keeping my sanity and Mickeys up-beat. Always thinking positivly and up-beat. Thighbootguy
DawhHH - I am embarrassed that I have not been following this thread. I have greatly missed your comments and then discovered this thread. I’ll not even try to describe my emotions as I started to read through it. What great news at the end that you and Mickey are doing well. I suspect that there will also be a few trains running better when you get back in the full swing of thing. Best wishes my friend. Dawn HH
Friends:-) Now since Mickey is out of the rehab home and back into our home, Nurse Nightmare, (me), and her assistant, Fez, "The Wonder Dog", have been given the duties to evaluate and dress Mickey's leg daily as she tries to finish her recuperation here at home. This has finally given me an opportunity to see my specialist about my knees. I am receiving shots in them for the next 6 weeks to help improve the pain and mobility in them with the hopes that something can be done in the near future for my badly arthritic ridden hips in hopes to try to stabize my walk and balance. Mickey hasn't driven a car since the end of last March, but we have hopes that she may be able to go back to that activity in the near future to alleviate my driving in case that I may have to have hip surgery which will tie me up from that for quite a while. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Dawn HH
Friends:-) Mickey has just recently been fitted for a new leg brace that supports her leg much more than her old one. It goes from her toes up to her knee all around her leg and is heavily boned up the back of her leg to keep her ankle as straight as possible for assistance and support in her walking. She still hasn't been able to get back to her driving yet, still has pain in that leg, and still has to have the assistance of a walker and a wheel chair, and my duty to dress her leg daily still remains. The fact that she might have to have her leg taken off at a later date still looms in the future. She has been released from her nurses and therapists and is now totally in my daily care. She just made her 66th birthday on March the 26th but hasn't been feeling good enough to go out to celebrate it yet. As for me---I have had x-rays and an MRI on my lower back which causes me constant pain 24/7. I have an appointment on the 16th of April with the spine surgeon to see just what can be done to straighten me out. Both our out-looks are bright and up-beat as we just take things as they come and support each other day to day. The way I look at it---if you get smacked down you just get up, dust your self off, and keep on going. Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey68 High Heeled Boots Forever!
