Gige Posted May 13 Posted May 13 (edited) Just wondering if anyone has heels that they will only wear at home/indoors due to heel height, comfort, or some other reason. I recently acquired a pair of very high Ann Taylor leopard print heels which are NSFW by any stretch of the imagination (I had to first take them to a cobbler for the footbed to be repaired). I also have a pair of Vince Camuto high heel loafers that also fit into the NSFW category. Thus, I was wondering if any other members of this group have heels that are best left for sitting around at home while looking pretty. Thanks, G P.S. not my photos but from the web Edited May 13 by Gige Correct a typo 4
Jkrenzer Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Heel height plays no part in what I wear publicly. I'm usually in 5 inch stilettos even at work. If you like em, then own it and just do it. Most people just know the difference between heels and no heels, height is no relevant. 2
mlroseplant Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Everybody is different in his wants and needs. I have never bought a pair of shoes thinking that I couldn't wear them out at some point. Besides, have you seen my house? There's no room in there to feel pretty! 😆

Thanks, G P.S. not my photos but from the web I own a couple of pairs of penny loafers, similar to yours with 4” heels. One pair of black leather and the other in brown leather. They are a mainstay of my wearing my “girl shoes” in public. I don’t have any animal print shoes or boots at the moment. 1 Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

gothic_smurf Posted May 13 Posted May 13 mainly have 2-5 inch heels myself here, wished i had a few that was a little higher 1
Chorlini Posted May 15 Posted May 15 All my heels are home wear only. For me it is fetish stuff mostly, I don't have any desire to wear them daily. 1

They look like they were MADE for work. I don't see what's wrong with those. 1

They look like they were MADE for work. I don't see what's wrong with those. For me, I think it is a matter of my more conservative fashion tastes. I tend to lean towards smaller heel heights, solid colors, simple cuts and lines for the office while steering clear of what is trendy. I think we could all agree that there is clothing that is unsuitable for work such as a cocktail dress, jeans with more holes than actual fabric, workout gear, just to name identify a few of the far too many examples of such. Likewise, I think that, when it comes to heels, there is a height where the line between professional and "to be used elsewhere" is reached, but where that may be is certainly subject for debate. For me, personally speaking, that is ~3" to 3.5" exposed, ~4" covered by pants, total height even if there should be a platform involved. I also think one has to look at the color/style/print/material of the shoe to determine if it is office worthy. I love animal print heels, for example, but to keep them appropriate for an office environment, 3" max height is my limit. Any height above that starts to push them into "club wear." This, in turn, give rise to the question of "Classy or trashy?" I do not know if there is a bright and agreeable line that separates the two but there is one that does exist. 2
mlroseplant Posted May 17 Posted May 17 I don't think there is a bright line regarding classy vs. trashy. There are so many factors that go into that equation, and a lot of it has nothing to do with the clothes, but the carriage and the demeanor of the wearer. I agree with you that you certainly can't quantify it scientifically. One inch difference on heel height by itself is not going to do it. Not being able to walk easily in your heels, on the other hand, no matter their height, counts for way more "trashy" points. 3
Shyheels Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I think there is a height beyond which you shouldn’t go for work wear. I would say 3.5” to 4” would be tops. Five inches for evening wear. i think there is a reason the likes of Louboutin do not make heels higher than 5”. As for me I too prefer classic styles and clean lines. Heels high enough to matter but without overwhelming the rest of the boot and making it all about the heel. The heel is important sure, but it is a part of an overall look and style, im of the belief that less is often more 2
Bubba136 Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) Other factors that should to be considered are what kind of work, where you work and when. If you are working in an office environment your exposure will be limited to those working around you. Your dress, while in good taste, will be less formal than if you were working in a retail environment where interaction with the customer is a direct reflection upon the quality of your product or service, appearance is important. If your working hours are at night, or after normal business hours, dress is probably less important. A simple shop uniform or even more casual clothing probably would be acceptable.
