My new MJs 3 proper high heels - Copy.JPG

They are very high, but I shall persevere with them.

Remember, "Quality work takes time".  Give your ankles and calf muscles time to get used to them.  And don't forget to duck going through doorways. :penitent:

    Enjoy your great looking heels.

  2. I was out this afternoon wearing  my royal blue thigh boots with 5" stilettos and leggings.  I paired that with a blue 15" denim skirt and white knit top.  Since it was cold I added a scarf, short leather jacket and a hat.  My wanderings took me passed a Good Will and, with nothing better to do, I stopped in and looked at the shoe rack.  I saw a pair of cheep boots in a size 11 that I tried on and put them back on the rack.  Then I spotted a pair of OTK faux suede boots with an  open front lacing and  4" stiletto heel in a size 11 for $18.  I had to try them on.

The leggings were the what made it possible to sit in a short skirt and try on boots.

The boots are RCELLA from Shoedazzle (they still had the sticker on the bottom) and are tight but I can walk in them.  The upper is a very heavy fabric so there may be some give over time when there on my size 12 foot.  The shaft will lace tight enough that the boots stay up.

Any suggestions on what to wear with these boots would be appreciated.

  3. I decided it was time to give my 5" stilettos another try.  I put on my royal blue thigh boots over leggings without the ankle brace.  I paired that with a blue 15" denim skirt and white knit top.  Since it was cold I added a scarf, short leather jacket and a hat.

I went to the movies and saw the last theater showing of Dr.Strange so tickets were $1.  I think the guy selling tickets was thinking that it was an appropriate movie for me.  Anyway, I really enjoyed the show.  Since I was in the area of my cobbler and my boots needed heel tips I went in and had the tips installed while I waited in the front of the store.  There is a Good Will just around the corner so I stopped in and found a pair of boots that I feature in the new boots thread.

On the way home I stopped in my favorite thrift store and got "Hellos" as I walked in and an "OH I like your boots" shouted across the store.  They had set of 6' metal shelves that I bought and loaded into the back of my car.  When I got home I wheeled the shelves into the basement with a two wheeler (and I'm still wearing 5" heels).

I did take care to stay on hard surfaces that were mostly flat and toward the end of the trip my ankle was letting me know it had given me its best effort and it was time for a break.  I think my left ankle has about 75% of the strength the right one does.  This is an improvement that I hope continues.

    Quality work takes time.

Happy is a great way to be!  I'd be happy to with a great looking pair of boots like that.  I do hope you wear them as pictured rather than hiding them under jeans, although it is hard to hide white boots. :penitent:

  5. Hey @JeffB;

The weather reports a big noreaster is heading towards Philly tonight with 4"-8" of snow.  Another good excuse to break out the thigh boots. :cheeky:

Looks like it's gonna hit at drive time.  Stay safe my friend.

  6. I have been out for two days now in full CD mode.

Yesterday I wore a short gray knit cowl neck dress with black leggings and gray OTK suede boots with 4" block heels and a black bead necklace.  I dressed up to go to the movies and saw Assassins Creed.  The ticket was only $3 but it was a waste of money.  The  best part was going to the theater in a dress and boots.  After the movie, I stopped in my favorite thrift store and got a lot of Ohhs and Ahhs over my outfit.  One customer went so far as to tell me I looked beautiful.  She went on to tell me she was a musician and wore thigh and chap boots when she performed.  I wasn't interested in pursuing the conversation much further, but the complement was nice.  While I was there I found an Ann Taylor gray straight line below the knee length skirt with a tasteful slit in the front.  I also mad a quick run through Sam's.

Today I went for a blood test wearing the Ann Taylor skirt, hose, gray suede OTK boots with 4" block heels, a short sleeved satin blouse (blood test), a blue/gray scarf, and a brass necklace and makeup.  I had to park in a distant parking lot and had a good walk to the entrance of the hospital during which it started to lightly rain.  As a guy I don't normally use an umbrella (I figure I won't melt), but dressed as I was, I used a small umbrella, which the wind turned inside out a couple of times.  In the hospital I went across the lobby to the registration desk and told the lady I was there for a blood test.  I gave her my name and she looked at me and said, "You did say John?"   I thought I looked pretty good, but I didn't think I looked that good.  After registration I walked over to the outpatient area and sat waiting for my time to be tested.

A young female lab tech came out and called "John" and had a look of surprise on her face when I stood up and walked over to her.  Normally the test is walk in, get poked, walk out, but this time the tech went out of her way to talk about the warm weather and how not having a cold winter prevented the allergens from being killed off.  She also commented that my outfit looked good.  I walked back out to my car fighting the inverting umbrella all the way.  I did get a couple of nice smiles from passing women.

While I was out and dressed I figured that @CAT shouldn't have all the fun and decided to go shopping.

First I went to my favorite thrift store and got Hellos form the ladies at the front counter.  While I was out the temperature had started to drop and it was raining so I looked at the coats and I found a London Fog blue/gray trench coat with the lining for $4.  I also found a brown leather skirt with a perforated pattern for $2.  I don't need another leather skirt but...  Anyway when I brought my stuff up to the counter one of the ladies said, "Oh I didn't see this  (the skirt) back there, and he wears my size".  The conversation went on to their really liking my boots and one of the ladies saying that she had three closets full of clothes in my size and joked (I think) that we should have a dress up party.  (I may ask if she was serious some time later :penitent:).  I wore the London Fog coat out of the store.

My next stop was a Sam's that I normally don't go to because they had an item my local store didn't carry.  I took my time and wandered around a good bit.  I'm not sure if people were reading me as a female with really bad hair, or a guy in a skirt and boots, but either way, no one paid any attention to me.  I was just another customer.

After Sam's I wandered through a Target and wound up at a Fresh Thyme Farmers Market.  Don't go into a store like this when you have been fasting for a blood test.

Anyway I have been having a grand time in this mode.

Back when I had just moved out to go to university, one of the first purchases I made was a pair of Pleaser Electra 5" (with 2" platform) stretch boots in white. They were quite comfortable as I recall, and this was about 10 years ago. I happened to have no classes the day they arrived - I was so nervous but so excited at the same time; it was a very pleasant day!

Would you care to expand on your definition of a "very pleasant day"? ("No" is a perfectly good answer, but I really am curious.)

Just received an email informing me they are on their way.

    Won't be too long now.

It's never too early to start practicing ducking when going through doorways.  That will come in handy with those heels. :penitent:

Remember to go slow when they get here.  The last thing we want to read is a post about a sprained ankle (or worse).

I prefer a full length zip, much easier if you want to wear trousers inside the boots, with a short zip they tend to ride up when pulling the boots on

I posted a solution for non zip boots this back in 2004 :penitent:  Solution

@Dr. Shoe also posted a solution.  Dr.Shoe's Solution

Wearing thigh boots over jeans with an ankle zip is a bit more complex.  Once I have the boots on I leave the zip open then pull the pant leg down (and the boot with it) to its correct position. Once in position I reach in with the heel of the other boot and hold the pant leg down while I pull the boot back up.  I repeat this for the other boot.   After I stand up, there is usually enough slack in the top of the pant leg that I have to repeat this process one more time.  After that the boots tend to stay in place.  It's a bit of work, but worth the effort.

    Getting on a rickety boa

Thanks for the picture and I assume, if you are having the time to take it, you are out and about and doing well, however that image does not jive with my recollections of a Vietnamese rickety boat which, to my recollection, were held together with nails and rope (I don't think they had duct tape).  Now my recollections are over 40 years old and I know a LOT has changed so I am glad that the definition of rickety has advanced this much. :penitent:

More trip pictures would be welcomed.

  11. I only remember having one pair of rear zip boots (long gone).  They were only knee high so I didn't have any comfort issues with the boots.  All my other boots are either stretch material without a zip, or ankle or full length zip.

I'm wondering if anyone has a preference of ankle zip over full length zip on tall boots (knee high and higher)?

  12. @maninboots - Thanks for sharing your McDonalds story.  I hope the unidentified guy appreciated the counsel you gave his wife and has the nerve to go out and about.  Did you mention that HHPLACE might be a good resource for both he and his wife.

@Jura- Also, thanks for sharing you McDonalds story.  You have a long way to go before you are "old" (which is only a state of mind) but its nice to have mile markers along the way.  Enjoy your boots Pop. :penitent:

@CAT - The thing I learn hear at HHPLACE... I have always found fishnet stockings uncomfortable and haven't worn them.  It never dawned on me to wear them over hose. :penitent:  The heels look great but I must be getting old because I don't see how you walk in them.  How high is that heel on that single sole pump?  Whatever it is... Well done.

no one paid me any attention as I slowly strolled the place

Again I'm not surprised at the level of attention you garnered.  Your outfit seems designed to blend in, and knowing that is your goal, well done.  I'm still not a real fan of those ridding boots with a skirt.  I think they would look better with jeans or slacks  I know you like them, and the guy in the Apple store likes them, as well as others here at hhplace, but I think your heeled booties would have looked better.  It does sound like you had a grand and fun outing, so again, well done.

Since Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, there are at least six more weeks of thigh boot weather, so you haven't missed the opportunity yet.

By this time I'd also come to realise that the best approach was to be confident and treat this like any other evenings walk to the car.

Confidence is the key.  Even if folks notice your heels, when you are projecting confidence folks will respect it.  Congratulations, it usually takes new heelers a bit longer (and some never get it) to realize how important confidence really is to going out and enjoying your heels.

greeted by a very rude man who refused to let me in, when i questioned his decision he made the point that this was a family restaurant and my dress sence could be seen as offensive to some people

I have never had anyone refuse to take my money no matter how I was dressed.  I have been to many family restaurants over the years, casually dresses except for a pair of thigh boots with 5" stilettos, and have never had an issue, in fact sometime they really didn't notice my boots.  I suspect you never want back to spend money there again.

  16. I went to the movies this afternoon wearing my taupe OTK boots with 4" block heels.  The lobby was empty to the point that I had to go hunting for someone to sell me a ticket.  I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and I highly recommend it.  On the way home I stopped in my favorite thrift store and got a "nice boots" from one of the sales ladies and she also said, "I really like your hat".  I gave her a big Thank You as I paid for a couple of hard back books.
