Amanda Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-pumps/ivanka-trump~7093 I noticed these the other day while shopping online. I have to say I do like the idea of less world war with trump and the helm. I also never liked the idea of TTIP.
Shyheels Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 I never liked TTP either. I agree with you that more isolationism on the part of America might not be a bad thing.

Amanda Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Yes I think it's time they sorted themselves out. Industrial military complex is not what we need on our planet.

Shyheels Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) He ran for office, didn't he? I dare say Melania will do her part for glam fashion Edited November 19, 2016 by Shyheels
Amanda Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) He did yes. I saw Jonathan Pie talking all about it before he did the news. Ugh I do wish he wouldn't swear so much! Edited November 19, 2016 by Amanda
Shyheels Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 We live in interesting times. I can't say the media has much to be proud of in all of this, no matter which side of the fence one stands on.
Amanda Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I think the media, both social and mainstream have lost traction somehow and reality is sliding away sideways completely unchecked. 1
Shyheels Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) I agree totally. I wonder how, when and if reality ever returns, and indeed what will constitute "reality" in the future. I keep seeing references to a post-truth world. As a journalist of many years experience I now find myself in a position of doubting or just plain disbelieving almost anything I read of the election coverage and transition. Amanda Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 A post truth age. Hmm, now there's a thought.
Shyheels Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) A disturbing one. subjectivity and situational ethics rules. (Not that I object to situational ethics!) Edited November 19, 2016 by Shyheels

(Oh dear, did I say that out loud? But I don't think I've been found out) Not that I'm interested in how earthlings think, but what are these 'situational ethics rules' you speak of? Edited November 20, 2016 by meganiwish
Shyheels Posted November 20, 2016 Author Posted November 20, 2016 Situational ethics are those wonderfully flexible sets of morals that bend and warp to meet the circumstances of the moment and thus still keep you within a broad and loosely defined morality. Those situations when your idiosyncratic set of ethics tells you it's perfectly acceptable to lie, cheat, deceive, steal etc. No absolutes. Yes, politicians of all stripes and business leaders, public relations flacks, marketers and advertisers have always lived in a post-truth world. It's just that nobody thought up a smart-clever term for it
Heelster Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 As I like to say - - "Definition: Reality - - That which does not exist"
Shyheels Posted November 20, 2016 Author Posted November 20, 2016 It exists, all right, but it's amorphous, ever shifting, and varies with time, space and the telling...

But situational ethics sound better as it suggests you do indeed have ethics of some sort. As a journalist I always thought that Ethics was a county in England. I was in my forties before someone told me otherwise... :-) 1
Louise28 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Inauguration 2 months today I think! President Trump, oh dear.....well at least Melania Trump will look stunning even as her husband might wreak havoc. 2
Shyheels Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 I am sure that the world's newspapers will not lack for copy over the coming four years.
SF Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Only 59 days of evil left.... Make America Great Again.... "Why should girls have all the fun!!"

He put the stethoscope to her and said, 'Big breaths.' 'Yeth, and I'm only thixthteen.'
SF Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 And the doctor who wanted to look in my rear - but I had an ear infection..... "Why should girls have all the fun!!"
Puffer Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 There will now be a long intermission whilst we exchange volumes of 'Essex-girls-with-white-stilettos' jokes. Or not. 2
nyenor Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Shyheels. Love the comment about "Ethics' being a county in England. Just brilliant. I am a big crossword fan and in one book of crosswords I frequently buy, one clue that often appears always makes me laugh - A county in W England - answer Essex. Really? You could not go further EAST in England than Essex. 2
