Do not be afraid. Be yourself. Act like its just another day wearing whatever you wear. A very nice co-worker-lady friend and I have been out for the past 3 weeks everywhere from church to the mall to the strip mall, dinner, breakfast with friends, at a local restaurant, shoe shopping and so many more places I can't list. First time out we went shoe shopping and had a blast . She tried on so many pair, to much caffeine I think, lol Then had me try on a few pair that she picked out and then talked me into buying one. Well I wore them on the next outing and we had so much fun. Each time we have been out I wore a different pair. I got a new pair of leather 4" stacked heel knee high boots this last weekend and wore them when I picked her up to go celebrate her 50th birthday. She absolutely loved them. This day she was not in heels but I was. She dressed to b comfy but still looked really cute as always. We went to a local pub, had lunch and then all over town. Stopped at a pet store and I stood there and talked to 2 guys about my iguana and I know they noticed my boots but just acted like it was totally normal. Again we went to a lot of other stores, stood and talked to folks and no comments at all. Kinda disappointing in a way but felt totally awesome to be able to have no fear and just be myself as I am wearing whatever I want and nothing happen. Felt sooooo normal. Moral of the story, same as the topic. GO PUBLIC guys, really nothing to fear but fear itself.

Working on it myself - -small excursions etc. trying to work it in so I can get the guys I work with to consider what would happen if I showed up to work in something other than work style boots. Can't work in anything but steel toe, but too and from might prove interesting. Still too much backward thinking locally. A few events recently still have me kinda worried, and the wife is scared to death I'm gonna do something "weird"

Hey ILK's - - nice pumps in the avatar. What are they??

I wore heels out when me and my gf went to Vegas for my 21st birthday. I didn't wear anything crazy (since I'm not too skilled in walking in really high heels yet). They were just a pair of black pumps about 3 inches high. It was really fun and I was surprised how little people actually did anything. With that being said I haven't really done anything like that since then. But you sure are right, nothing to fear but fear.

One of my goals in life is to have enough disposable income to purchase a pair of Christian Louboutin's.

When I can walk again, unhindered, I plan on taking mynew camera to the Falls and getting some pics. I'll wear the pink heels when I do it and snag some pictures.

A pair of bakers ' over the knee ' boots. 4-4.5inch stiletto heel. I normally wear my wedge booties as the bottoms grip really good/sure-foot.

Did something unfortunate happen to you (or worse, a broken heel) or just the eye stratin from the bright pink (love em by the way)?

I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.

Easier said than done of course... Especially in a place where you know people that live all over the city. I hate ridicule and people talking and making assumptions and the thought of people cutting me out of their lives... don't know why but i have an issue w/ not being accepted by everyone. Wish it was as easy as saying i'll do it.

Words can indeed hurt, but you can't let public conceptions (or misconceptions) keep you from going public and wearing the shoes you love. And if people were to shun you for no other reason than shoes, then perhaps those people aren't worth associating with in the first place. Like everyone else here, we also had to deal with thos very same anxieties, but once we hit the road, those fears wound up being all bark and no bite. Bottom line: You can't grow as a person by staying in the dark, just take a chance and do it.

Now to the replies. ;)

I have been overcoming an illness that required a surgery a week ago. I cant really walk or sitdown. Its not something I wish to discuss in public but I will add for anyone whom is concerned, I'm doing MUCH better then I was 2 months ago and I'll be ' free and clear ' ( hopefully ) by the end of this month ;) .

I think part of it ( being accepted ) really isnt my being accepted for who I am. Its more of what people BELIEVE they are seeing then what they actually are. I had hair that was very long by todays standards and Im very skinny. Ive been called ' miss ' quite a few times..

Its not that people see a guy in heels, they often have mistaken me. If I were 6-foot-something and weighed 200 or more pounds, people might view me a lot differently.

I havent given ANY thought to people cutting me out of their lives due to my wearing a certain kind of clothing. If people are that.. ( for lack of better words ) ' Narrow ', *I* would be better off without them.

I dont harbor much of anything. People know who I am and my ' quirks ' upfront before they become my ' friend '. I would hope they would offer the same sincereness towards me so I can accept them for whom they are just the same.

The problem is MANY of us have found out years down the road, that we might have a fetish, like or an interest in something and we didnt realize it until we already made a lot of friends. That entity might not be liked or accepted by people we already call ' friend ' or even a family member.

Me? I have a past of being ' odd ' in that I was always considered a ' wild child ' ( I dont think I was, being honest! ) due to playing in bands and being into drugs, booze and other things that arent really considered ' ethical '. I used to view booze and women in the same theme : 1 is too many and a thousand is not enough. Nothing exceeds like excessiveness..

When people I have known in the past find out I might be seen wearing high heeled shoes.. their most common response is ' no shit? '. Its not ' I would have never thought he would do something like that! ' or ' hes gay! '. People would either see it as ' nothing new ', ' hes just being himself ' or ' typical ' of something I might do.

Weather or not such is good or bad.. I leave that up to others to decide for themselves. Regardless, Im not hurting anyone so whatever their decision is, its for them to deal with. If they wish to be my friend and continue on such a relationship, great! If not, Live long and prosper, see ya round.

Words can indeed hurt, but you can't let public conceptions (or misconceptions) keep you from going public and wearing the shoes you love.

Its not just the shoes my friend. Its being true to ourselves. We need to be honest with who we are, what we like and let others know that ' this is me ' even if we know their responses might be less then welcome.

And if people were to shun you for no other reason than shoes, then perhaps those people aren't worth associating with in the first place.

BINGO!!!!!

Like everyone else here, we also had to deal with thos very same anxieties, but once we hit the road, those fears wound up being all bark and no bite. Bottom line: You can't grow as a person by staying in the dark, just take a chance and do it.

Very wise words!

Been around this small community for so long, stepping out in heels would be a questionable concept. There is a narrow mindedness around the people in the area.
