  1. mlroseplant, I know what you mean about the slope point.  I have found many shoes that "fit" ok in terms of length and width, but my forefoot and arch do not match the point of slope on the shoe, and those tend to be quite uncomfortable.  In many instances, for my foot, I find that the point where the slope begins is too far forward.  As a result, there is no support at all under a portion of my foot that is just behind the base of the big toe (ball of the foot).  With no support or contact with the sole there, my foot tends to slide forward to a much higher degree.  So not only does the shoe lack good support for my foot, but my toes and the area across the ball of the foot are being forced down into the shoe.  Not a good match.  Just recently, there was a pair of chunky heel boots at Payless that were a style that I would have been comfortable with wearing publicly, but that issue arose, even when I went to a smaller size.  So I had to pass on them.

If only my feet were small enough   Thes are my idea of the perfect pump - and even on sale.

I've pretty much given up on Kohls.  All of the stores have stopped carrying size 11 completely, and even many of their shoes on line are not offered in anything above 10.  Someone there doesn't like people with larger feet.

  3. ILK and Jeff, I'm with you on the basic, classic pump.  I can;t tell you how many pairs of just plain black pumps I've bought over the years.  I might have a pair in the closet, but I'll see another with just a slightly different toe box shape or a slightly different cut to the upper, and I have to have them!  I guess a lot of women are the same way...lol.

Nice job on the Manic pumps, Jeff.  I've had my eye on those, but they are not yet available in most of my local Payless stores in the gunboat size range (12).  Hopefully, they will fit decently, as I've been having a tough time with fit as of late.

  4. The size issue is interesting.  I think to some extent, it has to do with shoe styles.  Most recently, we seem to be heading toward pointy toe boxes after several years of round and almond shapes.  I think maybe the issue is that, as guys, our feet tend to be wider than female feet, so with a more pointed toe box, combined with the added width of the typical male foot, there is less room to, for lack of a better description, slide down into.  I know that for some time I was able to get into Nine West size 11s, but now, I can barely get my foot into them.  But again, the shoes I'm picking are the pointer styles.  I noticed that I can still wear a size 11 in many boots, which typically have a rounder toe box (and seem to run a bit larger overall anywya, but haven't seemed to shrink like the shoes have.)  I think that is why I've had so much trouble with my foot popping out of the back of my shoes as of late, as the true length hasn;t changed, but if I go to the 12 needed to accommodate the width, once they start to loosen up a bit, the length is too great and the heels pop off.  I hate that feeling, as it always seems like I'm going to lose the shoe.  So the real answer is likely wider shoes, and good luck trying to find much that you like in a wide width....lol!

  5. Wow, ILK, I didn't realize that you were comfortable in heels that high!  Seems to me most of your wonderful collection has been a bot more conservative height wise?  They look good with those skinny jeans you have on in the pics here. Beyond my limit though!  Enjoy!

And I dislike jackstands as well!  .

  6. I am a fan of toe cleavage, and while I don't mind the second pair, I agree that the first is a better look.  I think the second pair would be more attractive if worn with nylons.  They tend to keep the package a bit neater, if you know what I mean. If I had any photos to share, I would, but I hope you submit some more!

  7. Wasn't meant to be taken as a negative, I was just curious as to if they were heels or not.  Wearing what you describe is well beyond my level to begin with, much less with heels as well, so kudos to you, sir!  (and boy, would I NOT look good in a pair of jegginhs...lol)

  8. Well, my only thought on reading this was, were you actually wearing heels?  You mention Nine West "riding boots".  Riding style boots tend to be flat heels.  Were those, in fact, heels, or was it just the combo of the jeggings and flat knee high boots that you were wearing?

  9. Always good to hear from another heeler in the Chicago area!  Which Metra station do you use - Union, Northwestern, LaSalle?  I don't go downtown much, but used to come in to Union Station and walked through the great hall every day.  Always thought it would be fun to wear heels and be able to here the clicking echoing.  Never did try it though.

  10. Quite honestly, I like the aesthetics of the heel you call "not very high" better to being with - I know, I'm likely in the minority here on that.  But to me, it is a more attractive height.  I like those sandals!  I tend to have some similar issues with heels too high.  I can handle 4 inches, but above that, it seems that my ankle doesn't bend enough either.  The pair I just bought, posted on the new shoes thread, is 4.5", and I am having discomfort walking in the, especially in the ball of the foot area.

  11. Very nice, Jkrenzer.  I had my eye on those as well.  If there is a half inch platform in the shoe, I might be able to handle the 4.75 inches of heel.  You say they run larger?  That is unusual for Pleaser, whose, in most every review, are noted as running on the small and narrow side.  Do you have narrow feet by chance?

Just picked these up today from K&G Superstore.  Ann Marino brand, Kimber model, $34.95, in a black fabric type material that has just a bit of  sparkle to it.  Heel is a full 4.5 inches (which is, I admit, a bit high for me!). Sadly, I tried on an 11 in store and they felt pretty good.  An 11 is usually small on me, so I was happy that they fit reasonably well.  Well, I should have grabbed the display pair that I tried on, as I grabbed another box with new, still wrapped shoes, and when I got home and put them on, I found them to be very tight.  Hoping they will stretch out some!

  12. Just received these from Amazon (MeSex). They are Pleaser T-Straps, model Sexy-27. The fit is perfect, i got them in US women's size 10. I normally wear a men's size 9, so I took a risk and it was worth it. The heel rises 5.25" and there is no platform even though the site says .25". I placed a review on Amazon, linked here.

Highly recommended. The 1st picture caught me with an odd stare, sorry.

Nice shoes!  If I cut an inch and a half off the heel, I might be able to wear them...lol.  Seriously, I know I cannot handle 5.25 inches of heel height - but enjoy!  They are nice looking!

  13. Thighbootguy, I think that, in this situation, women's flats would have caused no less fuss than a pair of heeled boots, and perhaps even more.  Rockbass 19 made the proper call here - wearing any type of "women's" footwear would have caused a ruckus among the closed-minded/judgmental group.  Rockbass, enjoy a nice quiet evening out with your wife, where you don't have to put up with the opinions of other family members, and I believe both you and she will get much greater enjoyment that the family affair would have brought.

  14. Next time in up that way, I'll have to stop in that store!  Sounds like a great experience.  Did it appear that the younger guy was a heel wearer (could he walk in them) or just getting something for Halloween? I don;t usually see much I care for in that chain (not into the platforms as you are) but maybe they have some ankle boots with a decent heel that I could try.

  15. Actually, one sales lady I spoke with about this very subject (I was buying boot for my wife at the time, not for me) did pretty much confirm it is the sock issue.  Most women will wear a thicker pair of socks with a boot, so the majority of boots are made just a tad bit larger to accommodate the socks.  Some of the very obvious dress boots will still be "standard" size, but most are made a bit larger.  From experience, I cannot wear most size 11 shoes, but I can often comfortably wear a boot in an 11.

Interesting note of the Naturalizer Glassy boots, Steve.  I bought a pair of those in size 11 and they were a bit too small (I find Naturalizer shoes tend to run just a trifle on the smaller side of things).  I returned them for a size 12 and I was swimming in them with nylons on.  I eventually exchanged those for an 11 wide and they were a pretty decent fit.  However, I found that the slope of the footbed was a bad match for my foot (basically no contact between the heel and the forefoot) so I ended up retuning those as well.  Too bad, as I definitely intended to wear those out and about if I had kept them.  That was a good looking boot!

  16. 9 1/2!  Wow, it would cost me a fortune if I could wear that size!  Hard to find 12s. so I can't buy many!

Seriously, nice shoes!  I am very disappointed that the Nine West stores in my area are, for the most part, closing up shop.  The only two left are in outlet malls, and neither is carrying size 12s anymore.  Too bad, as they always have something I like but their size 11s just don;t fit me for the most part.  I am jealous!
