and last but not least, my fave heels are the J. Renee pointy toe with circle embroidery, got them from amazon US (Size 12)

I like those a lot myself.  Nice walkable heels.  But as indicated, likely the ones that would be most noticed if worn in public!

  2. Lime15 _ I like the first pair.  Very nice.  Reminds me of a style that Walt at ClassicPumps.com sells, but his are around $100.  Guessing the "cheap" ones made in China were a bit less...lol.  Love that see through.  They'd look good with some hosiery as well.

  3. Interesting, Lime15.  I would have completely agreed with you a couple years ago when, for example, my local Nordstron Rack pulled then entire 12-13 section.  They must have gotten some negatve feedback, because they are back again (Chicago area, btw).  The selction is always smaller - but that is more so due to the lack of manufacturers that make 12+ sizes.  And Payless has opened a couple of what they call their SuperStores, and those typically have a fairly wide selection.  Most stores still stop at 11, and some, like Target, have reduced their entire shoe section down to a minimum of styles.  I do wish DSW would carry more large sizes in store.  Even 11s are getting hard to find in their shops.

    Ron,

They are 11W and fit pretty well. I normally take a 12M in a closed heel shoe like a pump, but can often wear an 11 in a sandal or clog. I was glad I got these in a wide width. I would like a bit more arch support, so I added a gel arch. The ball of the foot could use a little more padding but it's not bad. The leather is buttery soft and doesn't irritate my hammer toe. They are very stable and easy to walk in gracefully, and I like how they look.

Thanks for the info -  I am typically somewhere between and 11 and a 12, but wide is much preferred in sizes less than 12.  But I tried on a pair of their Lennox pumps and could hardly get my right foot in the 12M.  So Naturalizer has become iffy for me.

I am finding this style to be pretty well sold out - especially in an 11W.

  5. I've bought a couple new pairs as of late.  The first is a platform, almost wedge sandal.  Never did I think I'd buy a pair like this, as I really don't care much for platforms, and wedges either for that matter, but something drew me to them.  I thought they were a nice option for casual wear, like with a pair of jeans or shorts (not that I would ever wear them out with shorts - not my style - but they'd look good on a gal in shorts!).  Bought them at K-Mary - also available at Sears.  When price dropped to $15, I went for it. Size 11, which is often on the small side for me, fit pretty well.  I was drawn to the way these felt walking in them.  Very different from a spike heel for sure!

Second pair is a black t-strap heel from Dolce.  These I couldn't pass up for $10 at Shoe Department.  They are a size 12, and the heel is right about 4", even though I thought it was lower than that.  They are pretty comfortable as well, though I do notice that my foot tends to slide down into the rather sharp point of this shoe.  I love t-straps, so these were right uo my alley.

When I shop for high heels, I don't need to know what concerns or opinions others have. I'm looking for some service to help me find or get the pair(s) that beckons to my taste and desire. Should the sales person/staff offer some encouraging words, it does sweeten the air and makes me feel more comfortable in returning for more shopping. I may even wear a pair of the heels from one of my former purchases with them, which generally encourages better service.

Now I believe this thread is about showing the heels you're comfortable wearing in public. I have many heights ranging from 3.5" to 6", but for going out I wear 4 & 4.5 inches stilettos, like these GUCCI SOFIAS:

Nice heels - height is out of my 3-4" range, but I like the cut of the shoe - quite nice.

  7. These were the boots I wore for my first real public outing.  I had worn other shoes outside, but never really in public.  I went shopping with these on and thought that everyone in the world would notice, despite by long jeans that covered most of the heel.  But honestly, no one noticed that I am aware of, and if they did, nothing was said and I evoked no laughter or comments.  I eventually wore some narrower (but still chunky) and higher heels as in the second photo, and I also have had a few pairs of loafer style block heels that I wear on occasion.  As much as I'd like to wear a sexy pair of black patent pumps as in my avatar, at my age and overall appearance, it's just not going to happen...lol.  Stick with what you feel comfortable wearing - both physically and mentally.  Take it only as far as you desire to take it - that is the best advice I can offer.  The world will not end if you wear heels in public - nor will life as you know it.

Stopped by a Cole Haan store to see if they had the Emory 100 pump in stock as it was on sale on their website. Right after the sales people asked if I was shopping for myself or someone else I spotted them, for less then the website had them for. When she came out with my size she said they are an additional 30% off, about 70% off the $260 I could not justify when they came out. Of course the first step leaving the mall I stick the left heel between two cobblestones, but its minor damage. A little pointier toe then I had expected from the photos, but I suspect the toe area will break in nicely and I will have my next step higher shoe for wearing in public, a good comfie 4"er.

Also, these are much quieter then the ither pair of Cole Haans I have. Very pleasently surprised as the others were attention getters.

Nice selection!  And at a great price! Cole Hahn makes a nice shoe for the most part.  I just can't afford them most of the time.

  9. While I admit to being quite comfortable wearing khakis and an open collar shirt as business wear, if the company I worked for said that from now on I had to wear a suit and tie and dress shoes to work, so bi it.  Guess I'm old fashioned, but it is part of the job.  And if you took a job where the told you up front this is the dress code, and now you're going to fight it...that is a totally different story as well.  You knew the parameters before had.  Live with it.

As an aside to this story, the code for this woman was a 2-4 inch heel.  Is she saying she cannot walk around all day in a 2" heel?  Please!  I think you could give just about any man a shoe with a two inch heel and tell him he had to wear it all day and you'd likely get little to no complaint at the end of the day.  Come on.  She could find a dress shoe with a 2" wedge heel that would be no more uncomfortable than some stupid little flat thing that offers no support at all.  Good grief - let's just blow everything way out of proportion so it looks like you're being so put upon.

  10. In my area, there appears to be a trend in progress to some consolidation of a few smaller stores into one larger "Super Payless" store.  Now have three of those in my area, and they do seem to carry a much wider selection and size range than the smaller stores.  I personally am not thrilled with these stores, as the layout tends to be much more wide open, which means that if I want to try stuff on, one is far more visible to both the store in general and the outside world as well.  I prefer the "privacy" offered by the more typical tall rack stores.

  11. I went to the auto show last night.  I was very surprised at how many of the spokesmodels were wearing hosiery - both black and tan shades.  I can't remember the last time I saw that many.  And most were not what I would call tights, they were regular, sheer type hose.  Of course, many had great heels as well.  It is always a treat at the auto show - I see more heels in one day than I might see the entire rest of the year!.
