I promised to post these once I received them.  The are Nine West boots, I believe the model is called Vadingin.  They were purchased used off the Vinted site.  Size 11 M.  For an 11, they fit me quite well, as I often need a 12.  But these have enough wiggle room for the toes and are reasonably comfortable.  Heel height is right about 4.25", with about a .25" sole - not really a "platform", but a thick sole.  WHile I have worn 4" heels plenty around the house, I hadn't really done much walking outside in heels of that height.  I wore them out today and did a little shopping as well, and I have to admit that my ankles were aching by the time I got back to the car.  Guess I need some practice!

Anyway, first couple shots are with the jeans I wore today.  Obviously long jeans that pretty much hid the heel, as I am not one for being obvious.  The others are shots at home with a skirt I sometimes wear around the house.

  2. Looking at the YSL web site, the men's boots are like $1,300.  Yikes!  Won't be buying those any time soon!  However, I am blown away by the fact that he is selling heels for men.  I would love to know just how well they sell.

Well, I crossed over to the platform side of the fence.  Never been a big fan, but I liked the style of these and they were on sale at Sears today for $25.  Bongo brand, Zelda is the style name.  Heel is just over 4.5", and the platform is about 3/4".  I usually need a size 12, but these fit really well for an 11.

  4. Maybe a year or two back (could be longer - my concept of time these days is blurry!), someone posted a video of a guy trying on shoes in a store.  I believe it was in Germany, and he was conversing with the sales girl and tried on a few pairs.  Does anyone remember that video and can perhaps recall where it is posted?

Thanks!  I will do a search.  You seem to have a large collection!  Several that I like.

  6. I found this online today.  At least it was an honest attempt rather than some silly, giggly thing that we see all too often.  The issue I have is that the guy started out immediately in quite high heels (that I'm not sure were a good fit either), and the material looked quite stiff as well.  Not the best choice for a first time in heels.  Wish he would have chosen something more manageable for a first time trial.  Most of us, and most women, don't immediately go buy a pair of 4"+ heels as their first pair, and then wear them for a whole day with a bunch of walking to boot.  Not a real fair appraisal of what it's like to wear heels, but at least it was done in good taste.

  7. Since Kohls completely eliminated size 11 from their stores, I rarely even visit there anymore.  I even sent them an email questioning why, and they never even bothered to respond.  Seems like a bad policy, as there are plenty of women that wear 11 as well.  Their loss...

Wow, that's some diversity there!  I wish I could find a pair of those loafers.  How high is that heel?  I've been looking for a pair like that, as I would feel comfortable wearing those out and about.

  9. Nice choices, Lime15.  I doubt I would have looked twice at the Mayhem model, but they look good on you.  I tried the Manic in both 12 medium and 11 wide, and neither was a good fit for me, plus, I found the heel seemed to hit my foot in the wrong spot.  Just couldn't find a comfortable fit there, though I like the look alot.  Good finds at those prices!

  10. maninpumps, I agree with you on the call first thing.  If you're not comfortable with trying stuff on in the store, call first and ask.  They can;t see you through the phone and have no idea who you are, so no need to be anxious on the call.  Ask if they would mind if you tried stuff on in store.  You'll get an honest answer, and when you go in, they'll know why you are there and will accommodate you usually without question.  Always worked well for me.  Unfortunately, not many of the old time local shoes stores around any more, though stores like Torrid, Payless, etc. are always happy to have you there.

While I never had anyone with as bad of an answer as you got in Lexington, I have received the same answer from a salesman - just not so rudely put.  But the tone of the answer asking about the availability of a large size spoke volumes about what he thought.  Jerks.

  11. Yes, I rather like the toe box as well.  Funny, a number of years ago, I would not have given a shoe like that, in a loafer style, a second look.  But once I decided that I would occasionally wear heels in public, shoes like that became quite interesting to me.  Now I like them not only for myself but also on the ladies.

  12. Ok, so I didn;t actually buy these, but I did want to mention them.  I was shopping at Sears and saw these, by Bongo, Zelda model.  Happened that they had a size 11 on the shelf.  Size 11 is iffy for me - sometimes way too small, most often smaller than is comfortable, and on rare occasion, a decent fit.  As  I've indicated in the past, I'm not really much for platforms, but I really liked the style of the shoe, so I decided to try them on.  Much to my surprise, the size 11s were a pretty darn comfortable fit (actually, I have had similar luck with Bongo brand in the past).  I walked in them for a bit, and I began to have a problem with the little toe on my left foot - not rubbed, by pressure of some sort causing some pain.  That's odd, because my left foot is smaller than my right by likely a 1/2 size or so, but the right foot was ok.  They were a platform I could live with because I liked the style, but after walking around a bit, I just decided the left little toe issue was enough to make me pass on this pair.  I might try a different pair just to see if it was some quirk with that particular shoe.  But anyway, if you're looking for a nice platform sandal and wear an 11 or 12, you might want to at least give these a try.  Decent price as well at $29.99.  Now that I think about it, I am going to have to try to find a different pair and see if they are better, because that $29.99 is almost too tempting to pass up.

  13. I can echo others in response to Payless.  My first experience there was not great, but acceptable, as when I asked the male clerk if there was any problem with me trying on heels he just stated I don;t care, do what you like.  Not the friendliest response, but also not a big issue.  But from that point on, it has never been an issue, and the girls at the store I shop at most often now offer suggestions to new styles, etc.  Payless is great.  Years ago there were a couple of small independent shoe stores that carried large sizes.  I called first to inquire about their policy and was more than welcomed by both.  Either was willing to let me use a back area if the store was busy, but after a while, I would just use the sales floor for the most part.  Both are, unfortunately, out of business.  I miss those places.  Places like Nordstrom Rack and DSW pretty much just leave you alone to do what you like.  While I have made many purchases at large department stores, I admit I have never sat down and tried anything on in something like a Macy's or Carson's.  I did ask to use a dressing room at a Penney's store and it was no problem.  And now that Sear's is self service, I try stuff on there for a qicuk "can I get it on at all" decision, and if it's something I like, I will take them to the dressing room for further inspection.  While I doubt that most sales associates will think "that's kind of weird" rather than "wow, that's cool", most really don't much care I believe.
