  1. Carol, it is great to have women post here - it is the only way we get to interact because we are not allowed to post on the ladies side.  We like hearing your comments and sharing your thoughts and experiences with heels.  Wish more women would join discussions here!

  2. Good choice Cl0setheels - I also would have had a hard time between 1 and 3, but I love the flair of the skirt on #3.

BootsOnly, there are no incorrect shoes for seamed stockings!...lol.  Seriously though, modern convention would say you are correct, but both the shoes and dress are certainly retro styles.  Back when, no proper lady was seen in a dress without hosiery, so seamed stockings would certainly have been more than acceptable then.  But I wonder how difficult it will be to wear that style shoe with stockings.  Will the foot slide down into the shoe too much, and will the shoe want to slip off the foot when walking?  Could be challenging!  Wish I could be there to enjoy your sharp look when you wear the outfit HeelsWearer!  Hope maybe you can share a photo of you in your outfit.

  3. Just picked up these at Nordstrom Rack last night.  Clark's Enfield style in size 12 - 3 inch heel, $89.95.  Tried size 11 and they were pretty snug.  Decided to go with the 12s as they were a better fit, though they could be a bit loose as they get broken in.  Figured I can always wear some thicker socks (tried them on with typical nylons).  These will be my go to shoes for public wear this winter.  Easy to walk in heel height for this old guy...lol.

  4. I bought these from Amazon last week and they arrived today.  Lucky Brand, Orenzo style.  The description said 3" heel but they were, in fact, just 1/8" short of 4".  The height was quite walkable, but the fit was not great.  Size 12 was too loose on my left foot and too narrow for my right foot.  They were going to be my go to boots for winter heel outings - alas, back they go.  Too bad.

  5. Never have had any kind of issues in a Payless store.  Given that they are one of the few places that carries the larger sizes, I'm pretty sure they are used to guys coming in for heels.  I know the associates at the one I go to most often have said that there store is known to many guys as one where they will be comfortable trying things on.  They just usually give me there spiel about whatever sale they might be having and then just say "let me know if you need any help".

I miss the old days of the small, private shoe stores.  I knew a couple that stocked 11s and 12s and would go there regularly.  The staff had no problem waiting on me or having me try things on.  All are gone now, replaced by things like DSW and Nordstrom Rack.  I miss the old days....and I liked the shoes better back then as well!

  6. Jeff - I hope you didn't take my comments in a negative way, as that certainly wasn't how they were meant.  Just trying to indicate that my enjoyment comes from a different angle.  I appreciate what you do - personally, I just don;t see myself walking around in a dress or skirt in my otherwise male appearance.  But then I am not trim like you, nor am I as young.  The whole idea is to enjoy what we do here - be it shoes only or full outfits.  So have fun with it!

  7. We have gone trhough some downturns before.  In the late 60's and into the 70's, heels were basically gone, and those that were around were quite blocky.  It took at least 10 years for the swing back around to occur.  My favorite era for heels was the mid 1980's into the early 1990's.  There were plenty of 3-5" heels to be found - nice stilettos, etc.  Then we went the other way again - thicker heels, lower heels, the (in my opinion) dreaded Louis style heel.  Things started to turn around again in the 2000's, and we reached new heights, quite literally, of heels.  I'm guessing that if we all survive long enough, we'll go through a period of thick block heels without much height for several years, but then the designers, in an effort to sell something "new", will bring back thinner and higher heels once again.  I agree that heel wearing for women is way down, but I believe that is a match to the clothing trend, where everything is much more casual - men hardly wear suits to work anymore either.  But if you go into a women's shoe store, there are still more aisles and displays of dressy heels than there are casual shoes.  So they still must sell more heels than other styles.  Where the women wear those heels is, however, a mystery to me, because I rarely see them being worn...lol.

I never joke about serious things like heels!   And 4" is approximately 101.6mm.  :reading:

I wore those new loafers out for the first time last night.  Had to pick up a few things at Walmart, and pretty much had to cover the entire store.  About half way through, my ankles were beginning to bark at me.  No other issues, fit was decent, no squished toes or other fit issues, though my left foot was popping out at the heel at times, which can be annoying. Those heels felt more like 355 mm that Puffer joked about than the actual 4 inches!  Not sure if it has something to do with the heel shape or how it sits on the shoe, but I was not comfortable at all.  Maybe my ankles will stretch out some, but I'll reserve these for short walks for the time being....lol.

Size up on the Habit. I wear 11s, and those were tight in 11s. I have not seen wide in Habit.

Haddies are standard size. Wear your normal size. They don't come in wide in Haddie, either.

Actually, I was just looking on the Payless site and the Habit style does come in wide, but the Haddie does not.  I have tried on the Haddie and found that a size 11 fit me pretty well.  Considering that most 11s are a bit too small for me, and that is mostly a width issue. I'd say they have a fairly generous fit.  Likely due to the shape of the toe box, which is pretty squared off.  Just not sure I personally like the shape of the heel yet though, so I didn;t buy them.

  10. I've been looking for some block heel ankle boots.  Those are a style I'd like, Jeff, but I would prefer that heel be another inch and a half higher.  I believe that these days you are going more for the look, Jeff, while I am still enjoying the feel of wearing heels.  If the heel would be as low as those boots, I'd really not get much of the feel of heels from them, and hence, not as much enjoyment.  As has been stated, however, your look is quite nice.

Nice loafers, RonC!   A style I would wear if I could get them in my size UK11.

And, on the basis that neither the camera nor the steel rule can lie, you have there a pair of shoes with impressive 355mm heels! :cheeky:

Thanks, but I think 355 mmk might be a bit much for me...lol.

  12. I got these on ebay for $25 this last week.  Brand is Born, style is Debbie.  The heel is a full 4 inches in size 11.  They are pretty snug on me, but I'm hoping they loosen up.  The seller indicated that they had only been worn once, and I believe that.  They look like new.  I appreciate the fact that they have quiet heels, as I'm not much for drawing attention when I wear heels out and about.  I will wear them with long jeans when the weather cools.  The heel height will challenge this old guy - 4" is about the max I can handle and walk halfway decently.

I try to take care of my self as best I can.   A few have commented than I look younger then 50, I fell like 90 lol.   I hate to say that I don't work out like I would like too,  actually not at all!!!!!!  I am very active and part of my job is physical.

Yes I am in Chicago. The fountain in the pics is located in Wheeling. My girlfriend picked that location on the way out the door.  I think it made a great background. Are you in the Chicago area as well?

Yes - I now recognize that fountain in Wheeling!  I am west suburban.

  14. CAT, I've got 15 years on you, but I have to say I would have never, ever guessed 50.  Very trim - you must spend some time in the gym - or should a I a great sum of time in the gym - lol.

Unless I have you confused with someone else, I believe you are in the Chicago area, correct?  Where is that cool fountain?  I haven't seen that before.

To me those kinds of shoes just look like high heels taken to the point of parody.  I read somewhere that Christian Louboutin said that 120mm or five inches was about as high as heels should go because beyond that they lose their proportionality and sense of elegance. I would agree with that.

Not sure if Mr. Louboutin has made exceptions to that rule, but some of his heels look really high.  To my eye, the line gets crossed at anything much above 4".  But we all have our likes and dislikes!  :cheeky:

I wear 3 to 4" heels every day. For me, no sense in hopping around. I would rather be more graceful.

And from this guy's perspective, I'd rather see a lady in a pair of heels she can walk in - gracefully and (at least) reasonably comfortably.  She will be more willing to wear them more often and for longer periods of time rather than rushing to get them off her feet because she can;t stand it any longer.  So more power to you Carherine!

Hey everyone, been a little quiet here but I'm still active wearing heels. Been working my way up for longer distance/time wearing heel heights, and am sitting at 4" for now. Just got a pair of Charles David Lava pumps in black suede, rounded toe and a mary jane style strap to help keep them on. So far they seem comfie so I have high hopes for them. A pair of clearance Cole Haan 100mm pumps I have are good for a while, but the toe shape starts to cause discomfort in my toes before my lower legs have an issue, so perhaps still breaking them in. These have plenty of room out of the box, so might be a good choice instead.

Nice shoes, Rockpup.  They look higher than 4" though.
