  1. Here is my deal of the day.  I picked these up today at Winners for those that live in Canada.  The brand is Ivanka Trump.  The model is Kaylynns.  The material is a suede design with a metallic alligator like toe.  These ones are red but they have other colors.  The heel itself is 4.5 inches with no platform.  The shoes fit very well if not on the larger side.  Some people mght be able to go down half a size compared to what they normally wear.  And now for the price!

The tag said comapre at close to $200.  Seemed right for a shoe with Ivakas name on it.  Winners was selling them for just under $100.  But now they were on clearance.  I picked these up for $20!  When I got home I did some online research to find the real deal on these shoes.  They indeed retail for close to $200.  and the cheapest online I found was around $100.  Not bad for the $20 I paid.  Can't wait to try them out and about.

Quite the bargain!  And they look pretty nice.  Heel is likely more than this old guy can handle, but I like them!

My latest purchase.  Vince Camuto Stefania sling back pump, in the very rare size of 11.5.  4" heel.  They fit nicely, show a little toe cleavage, and are very classically styled.  Found them on Amazon at $29.47 plus shipping of $9.99.  I think they'll be comfortable - they are now, but time will tell!

Seems to me that they will ship it anywhere.

  3. Hey Bluejay, do you buy Naturalizers in wide widths?  Because their regular width shoes I find to be on the narrow side.  Seems I used to be able to wear most of their shoes in size 11, but the last couple years, there is no way I could wear an 11, and even the few 11 wides I have found tend to run small for me.  Then I go to a 12, and they are simply too long.  I have had a lot of trouble with Naturalizer these days.  I found a pair of their "Lennox" pumps, a very basic pump with a maybe 1/3 inch platform, in the sale rack at my local Famous Footwear and was so excited to see a size 12 (must have been a return as they don't ever have 12s on the regular shelf).  I tried them on and even though a 12, my toes were getting srunched (and these are somewhat rounded toes) and the shoe was digging into the top of my foot at the base of my big toe.  Would have bought those, but the fit was awful for me.  Or maybe they were just a factory defect and that's why they were returned to begin with.

  4. I was out shopping over the weekend in my boots, and didn't even get anything like a response - - - Nobody noticed.

Had to sit and wait awhile in one mall, so I watched people on two levels of the mall. Only two pairs of heels in 25 minutes. Everything else was flats, sneakers and Ugg variants.

    Oh well

Yeah, two pair of heels in 25 minutes - and you were probably fortunate to see that many.  My how the times have changed.  Years ago, the mall was a great place to go to see the ladies in their heels.  Now, I wonder why the stores have such large displays of heels, because I never see anyone wearing them!  Do they buy them and stick them in the closet just to look at?  Maybe they wear them at  work, but not before and after work or in transit?  Even in church on this past Easter Sunday, there was one girl out of maybe 50 that wore what I would consider to be dress heels.  Just call me old and grumpy I guess, but I sure do miss the girls in heels.

  5. With you on that Jeff.  My favorite is black patent.  I could have 10 pairs at home, but I'd still be tempted by a "slightly different" pair in the store.  By that I mean a slightly lower cut vamp, more or less toe cleavage, pointy or more rounded toe, etc.  The pair you used in the photo here is gorgeous - low cut, slightly scooped side, and a lovely heel height.  Similar to what I have on in my avatar, but different enough that I'd be looking them over but good in a store, and might just buy if in my size!

  6. Ron C. - Yes I remember the name of the store called Burts as it did have ads in the paper of shoes I could only dream of wearing.  It was only located downtown and I never saw its location.  Like so many shoe chains of then, they now are now a realm in the memory only.

I have not thought of using the trial rooms to see about fit.  Good idea.  But finding a 13 is slim and none outside of Payless (Hills as it was first introduced at first) so far.

Yes, 13 is very tough.  Find a 12 in much anything besides Payless and Nortstrom is difficult.

  7. Wow, jetheelsfan, all those shoe store names from the past!  I bought my first pair of heels at a Tom McAnn store.  Felt like I was going to pass out I was so nervous - and that wasn't even trying them on, just buying them!  Asking for a size 10, only to find out that back then, some styles weren't even offered in a 10!  The actual shoe I wanted only came to size 81/2.  I ended up buying a different pair that the guy brought out - one of maybe only four styles they even carried in size 10.  Didn't really like the ones I bought, but at least I could get my foot in them!  I'd add Maling's to this list - my Mom shopped there quite often - as well as Burt's.

In terms of current day department stores, I have asked for shoes to try on in Penney's, but took them to the dressing room.  The salesman was fine with that.  Sears in my area is now self service.  I will do quick try-ons in the aisle, but if I find something I think I like and want a better idea of how they feel, I will go to the dressing room there also.  While I have purchased a couple pairs from Macy's, I have not asked for shoes to be brought out to try on.  I will, if the store is not crowded, occasionally try stuff on when the sale racks are out.  Also, while I have not tried them, it is my understanding that Nordstrom's will be happy to have you try on whatever you please.  I do shop at Nordstrom Rack and again, if not crowded, I will try on in store as well.  I have pretty much stopped buying anything that I haven't al least tried on, as I have had too many bad experiences on improperly fitting shoes.

  8. Hmmm,  at 64 how much longer are you going to wait?

With longer jeans that cover most of the shoe, you won't attract any more notice than the Born booties with 3" heels.

Yeah, I can;t quite agree with you on that one.  Black patent, pointed toes and stiletto heels are going to stand out quite a bot more than a shoe that you would have to look twice at to see that it was a pair of heels.  Not only that, my walk would be alot different in those 4" spike heels than in the 3" chunky heels,

  9. I have recently been wearing my Born booties with 3" heels quite a bit when shopping.  Malls, grocery stores, department stores, etc.  I tend to wear longer jeans that cover much of the shoe, but it is still apparent that they are heels, and the heel, while chunky, is still tapered and thinner than that which would be found on a typical mans styled shoe.  Have I been noticed?  Yeah, I probably have been on more than one occasion.  I know that the last time I was in the grocery store my shoes must have been noticed.  There were two employees discussing something on the shelves and they were looking at the lower shelves as I walked by.  Nothing said there, but in the next aisle, a third employee comes walking along, and it is obvious to me that he is looking at my shoes.  No comments, of course, but certainly noticed.  And you know what?  The world didn't end...imagine that!  While I'd love to go out in the pair in my avatar, that's just not going to happen.  At 64 years old, even most women wouldn't wear those any more...lol!  But I do enjoy my outings in the blockier, and obviously less noticable heels, and I still enjoy that, though I must admit that real thrill I used to get from actually being out walking around in heels has lessened.  Now it's just enjoying heels without the "wow, I'm wearing heels" factor.

  10. I have been married for over 40 years now and my wife does not know of my heel wearing (almost been caught a few times, but hasn't happened yet!)  Back in the 1970's when we met and were dating/got married, it would have been very much frowned up, so I kept it to myself.  I would love to be able to be open about it, but it is far too late in this relationship to upset the ship.  Just not worth going there anymore.....    Wish the support groups like HHPlace would have been around back then, as there is no doubt that "not being alone" is a major positive influence.

As far as hiding places, right now, I have four pairs in my closet and one in the spare tire area of my car.  Closet stash is in a bag of what were once part of a Halloween costume - I did go in drag to a couple of parties many years back - a long story.  But we no longer share a closet, and she wouldn't be shocked to see the top pair in that bag and would not likely ever look beyond that, so the three newer pairs are reasonably safe.

  11. I think that is basically what I meant about the toe box on pointed shoes.  Absolutely, if your foot is more narrow, especially in the toes, you will slide further into the toe box.  My feet are wide, so I have to have enough length to start with or I can;t get them on, especially those with more pointed toes.

  12. Lime15. I have enough trouble at 12.  Can't imagine 13.  The Payless I frequent does, however, have a section for 13s.  The selection is, as expected, generally limited.  Actually, I did notice the Matilda pump pictured above in a size 13 when I was there last week.

  13. Man, I must be getting old (well, not getting, I am.. :fine: ).  I just returned from Payless, and they had the Manic in both 11W and 12M.  The fit was decent in both, but from the pictures on line and the ones you sent, I didn't realize just how high of a heel those have.  Has to be a minimum of 4" and I wouldn't be shocked if it wasn;t a bit more than that in the large sizes.  I liked them, but found I was not walking very well in them.  Ended up taking a pass.  Crap!

  14. NH, I had a pair that were very similar to those a couple years ago.  Main difference I can see is thaat the pair I had had some pleating around the ankle.  They were great.  I loved the heel height, as it was enough to know you were wearing heels without causing me to walk funny  :fine: , and I actually wore them out numerous times.  I wish I still had them, but unfortunately, I lost my storage spot and had to let them go.  I've been looking ever since.  I'm going to see if I can track down the style you have.

Just as another note, the pair I had were quite loud as well.  I took them to a local shoe repair shop.  The shoemaker say the noise is because the heels are hollow.  He filled the heel with some type of foam, and then put a rubber heel tip on them, and they were quite quiet after that.  So if the noise bothers you, give that a try (I had a few shoes and boots done that way), but if you happen to like the sound (which I do, just not when I'm wearing them...lol), keep on truckin'!
