  1. I was looking for some short boots that I could wear out and about without being obvious.  Ergo, something with a block type heel and fairly sturdy in appearance.  Was hoping for a heel in the 3.5-4.0 inch range.  Had a lot of trouble finding something with a thick heel with that kind of height - or at least in a price range I was willing to pay - say less than $100.  I found the attached at Macy's.  BCBGeneration Aries, and they were on sale for right about $80.  Heels is only 3 1/4 inches, but it is still a decent heel, and they are reasonably comfortable, though the lack of a zipper makes them kind of difficult to get on and off.  Walked around the mall a bit after purchase, and while snug in size 11 (in most shoe styles, I typically need a 12) but I think they will loosen up a bit with wearing.  A bit on the loud side, though more of a clomp than a click, so it's not too bad.  I know they are not overt, but as indicated, I was looking for something that I could wear without much notice, though if anyone looks, the fairly short and slightly tapered toe box will give them away as not being a man's boot.

  2. RonC, I have added additional pictures in my gallery with these shoes on.

Thanks for the larger shots!  The shoes look quite nice, but I admit to some surprise that you indicated that no one really noticed, as if anyone did look, what you are wearing  is obvious with so much foot showing and the strapping.  Probably a bit more daring that I am willing to be!  Anyway, you look good in those!

  3. C'mon guys...it was supposed to be light hearted.  They weren't going for a "look, men can wear high heels too" viewpoint.  Just a spoof - give some credit to the guys putting on the heels.  Many guys would have been too macho to even think about risking all of their masculinity to do that...lol.

  4. RonC,, yes I know. I only wanted to have videos of me in order to see how I move, and my cellphone is old. I am just a beginner so I hope it will improve other time.

First vids I only walked quickly.

Then I mixed walking and pause, and took extracts to post here.

Now I will make sure I take also a photo of my outfit with the timer, with bigger quality, but I find it more convenient to take a video then extract some good positions.

All in all, it is very time consuming to do that.

Sorry.  I know that posting can be quite challenging at times.  I like to heel in stealth mode myself, so I was hoping to get a good look at how your shoes looked with your clothing, and how noticable they might be.  Keep posting, we all enjoy seeing what others wear!

hh4evr1, I like the heels in your group.  Flats can be fun too, though, but I think all of the heels are quite nice.  Wearable and attractive.

  5. Well I bought some mary jane-like wedge pumps that I had in store since a while. I decided that I could give them a try and paired them with a regular and a slim fit jean for testing. Please be forgiving for the low quality of the snapshots. Today i went shopping for my groceries in them (with the regualr fit jean), and drew not even a few stares nor double takes. What do you think ?

I'd love to comment, but for some reason, I can only get a small photo, and I really can;t even tell what you are wearing.  Looks fine from a block away though! lol

  6. Im going to post some ' old ' pictures. I want to see if anyone can figure out what exactly is wrong with them. Ill give some clues out as it goes along.

In order to have clues given, you need to state what you believe your looking at.

    First pic..

Is that a central a/c unit behind the house?  Wouldn't be that old then would it?

Hmm! The car on the far left looks like it has THREE headlamps.

It does have three headlamps.  It's a Tucker, and that is the original design.

  7. I bought these Dune "Heather" silver strappy sandals. The heels are 4¾" (with no platform) which for me are wonderfully teetery to walk in. I've found Dune quite small-fitting in my experience so I bought one size bigger and I think that was the right choice (not exactly a "choice" as they didn't have my regular size, but in any case I think they'd have been a bit too small).

Very nice!  I'll bet they are a challenge to walk in!

  8. Lime15, those spectators look even better on than they did in the original photos.  I love them with the black stockings.  Great find there!

Gary0618, those are great looking Nine West boots.  Very sleek, and a nice heel.  You indicated that you were a size 12 and that these fit perfectly, but didn't indicate if they were in fact size 12.  I assume that's what you meant, but could you clarify that.  Also, how is the width?  I have fairly wide feet and those look like they might be a bit narrow.  I have been able to wear a size 11 in some of their other boots, however, as it seems that, in general, boots are cut a bit larger, likely to accommodate the wearing of thicker socks I would guess.

  9. Stopped at at my local Nordstrom Rack.  Very disappointed to find that the size 12 section has been reduced dramtically. What used to be nearly an entire aisle is now reduced to one rack of about five feet.  It is now the size of what the size 13 rack used to be, and the 13s are essentially gone.  So very disappointed in this development.  Seems we're going the wrong direction here.  Damn.

  10. I had some time set aside and some money squared away so I planned a shopping trip yesterday to Nordstrom Rack.  Once there I was disappointed to find that the women's shoe department was being remodeled.  It looks like they're getting rid of the "one shoe on the sales floor, take it to the counter to get the other" model in favor of having both shoes on the floor in a shoebox (original, generic or unmatching) similar to how DSW handles their clearance.  I'm all for that as I prefer self-service when browsing clearance - more time spent checking out shoes rather than waiting for a clerk to run back and forth behind a desk.  Unfortunately I was unable to locate the size 13 section as the signs ran out at size 11 and weren't following any logical order.  I asked a CSA if they still carried women's size 13 shoes and she lead me to the backside of the size 11 rack where the 12's were hiding, alerting me that the size 13 shoes would be intermixed with them.  I thanked her for her assistance and let her know I would be good to go from there.  Sadly there were only maybe six or seven pairs of size 13 heels and nothing I was interested in, at the price they were marked anyway.  I really hope the size 13 selection will return once the remodel is complete as it took many years to get it built up to the relatively good assortment prior to the construction.  Considering how many empty racks there were as they moved inventory around and how much work was being done, I think it won't be a problem.

I swung by Payless before leaving for home as while they don't carry much at all in my size, I do like to check out styles in other sizes before ordering online.  It honestly wouldn't surprise me if this store goes under soon as not only is it small, they had next to none of the new styles.  With the huge one at the biggest mall in the area closing a few years ago (that had spectacular employees and a decent selection) I understand why this store has remained in business but their days have to be numbered.  I was, however, able to find a pair of oxfords that caught my attention a week ago and placed an order for them once I got home.

They're kind of an oxblood color and I think they'll look smart under jeans or slacks.  They might also get me street heeling again once the weather cools down.  Who knows, stranger things have happened before.

A little later in the evening an eBay auction I was half way watching was coming to an end with no bids so I flipped a couple bucks in and ended up winning.  I'm a sucker for wingtip and spectator pumps so I guess things just worked out.

I'll post again when both arrive and of course will write a review with pictures at Payless.com for the oxfords.

I tried the oxfords at Payless.  They are comfortable, just not really my style preference.  On the other hand, those spectators are fabulous!  SIze 13, wow!  What brand are they?  They look great.  Can;t wait to hear more about them.  Are they new or pre-owned?

  11. Hi - joined a while ago but am still new.

Been trotting about at the office in my Black Suede Frye Campus 14s for some time.

I feel reasonably confident in these, but they are an innocuous 2-inch stacked heel. I've been clocked once by a guy who said "oh, you're wearing womens boots today", but I heard that my boss told him to back off afterwards.

Last week, I decided to pair my Hush Puppy Affectionate heeled loafers with some longer black bootcut jeans. Felt good and got complimented on the jeans more than anything else by one of the chaps who sits near me. I was being hauled all over for meetings and, towering over the shorties, felt a little conspicuous so bottled it by about 3pm and changed back to sneakers. This, despite wearing the same outfit (plus floral top) to a work do in front of 150 colleagues!

Shall just have to keep trying to overcome the confidence issues. But all-in-all pretty good.

    Iain.

lagrange, I love those Hush Puppies loafers.  I've been looking for something like that.  Do you know if they still make them?

  12. Went shopping at Payless today and tried on several newer styles.  I'm just not seeing anything that thrills me, and the few that I'd consider haven't been comfortable.  As I am not a playform lover, that rules out about 1/2 of their dress shoes from the start, and the rest seem to be mainly round toe heels, and I'm getting a bit tired of that style.  There was a pair of t-strap heels with a material upper with black patent trim that were pretty comfortable, but they just didn;t quite do it.  They did have one pair that I found interesting despite being a low chunky heels and round toe again - another t-strap style, but no size 12, and the 11s were much too tight.  I did try on a pair of pointed toe stilettos I liked that were black sude with studs on the toe box, but the fit was not great - right foot was ok, but I was walking out of the left.  Oh well, maybe the holiday season will bring some things I like.  I should add, however, that the SA there was quite pleasant and helpful.  She is apparently used to guys trying on heels, as she didn't bat an eye when she came around to my aisle and saw mee trying on the t-strap heels.  She simply asked if I liked them and said she had a pair herself! Here are pics of two of what I tried.  The chunky heels t-straps don't even show up on the web yet.

  13. It just goes to show that the 'net crosses boundaries in more ways than one! LOL TBH, I was pulling your leg about your use of American English, but most of the guys on here know what rubbish is, and if you'd said "I was taking the rubbish out to the skip" I think they'd know what you meant! LOL I bought the skirt in a "retro" shop in Greenwich (The Eastern end of Creek Road) but I don't think it's there anymore. In case you can't see from the pic it's a leather pencil skirt of which I have a couple. You can see more of it here. BTW, I'm now based near Reading.

Thanks for the link to the photos Dr. Shoe!  I enjoyed getting a better look!  Nice heels, as always!

  14. Yes, I owned one pair of Rossi in size 12, they fit perfectly for me (I do have narrow feet, thank god). I guess these would be a little bit snuggy but nothing I couldn't stand... we should expect a bit of disconfort in pumps, I think it is part of the fun :) These would be wonderful paired with a night/formal outfit... I will keep an eye for clearances!

You are fortunate then. If my feet were narrower, there would be so many more options, as then size 11 would fit I'm sure.
  15. gallux, I typically wear a size 12. While I can wear these, there is no way I would call them a "comfortable" fit. If you intended to wear them for longer periods of time and do much in the way of walking in them, and you usually need a 12, then I'd have to say no. But then my feet are wide, so maybe if you have a somewhat more narrow foot, they could work. Not sure if you own any of the shoes from Classic Pumps (like my avatar, and certainly your avatar looks similar). I have a pair of their Rossi pumps in size 12, and they are pretty tight on me as well. I would say this new pair is slightly more tight than the size 12 Rossi style from Classic Pumps. Hope that helps.

  16. Actually, I believe the problem is likely related to width. Those of us with wide feet have more of a problem with womens shoes because they are made to fit a narrower foot. So in order to get something that will fit the width of the foot, we increase the size. So what ends up happening is that the length is actually too long, even though the forefoot fit is ok. The only real solution is to find shoes in a width that can actually accommodate the foot with the correct length as well. I wear a size 10.5 wide in men's shoes. I find that, in the rare instances they are available, a womens size 11, but in a double wide (WW or D seems to be the most common designation for womens sizes) seems to be a good fit for me. But good luck trying to find something that you'd actually like to wear in size 13 double wide. I know that even in an 11 WW, the choices are slim. But with the correct width, the heel does not slip out, as the length then matches up better to your actual foot length.

  17. Thanks, Jeff! I saw on the DSW web site that one of the reviewers said these were about the most feminine shoes she had ever had. Same goes for me, I think....lol. I hope that maybe I can have the good fortune of seeing them on an attractive lady some time! I'd very much enjoy that.

  18. While I agree with RonC about seeing fewer size 12 shoes in a particular Nordstrom Rack store (I think he's talking about the one on Lake-Cook Road in Chicago's northern suburbs) I wonder why that is so. Virtually every time I have asked store managers of different shoe outlets about size 11 for example the answer has been that they are getting an increasing number of requests for them. If the market place truly responds to consumer demand then these stocks of in-store larger sizes SHOULD be increasing. It is also possible that many of our members are scooping up these sizes as their comfort level increases. I have written before about the ratio of men who browse and leave to those that actually browse, try-on, and buy. I have some anecdotal evidence that the reason you are not seeing as many larger sizes on those 11 and 12 racks is that they were sold to a part of the market that was largely absent before. I am convinced now that there are more men buying large size women's shoes than there are women buying large size women's shoes which may explain this apparent store shortage. Thankfully I don't need a 12 but rather 11 is my ideal size but I can also fit many size 10 shoes if they are open toe. HappyinHeels

Actually, the store I was referring to is West Suburban Chicago, but I have noticed the same trend in the other stores as well.
