  1. When I first decided to try on heels in store, I phoned ahead to get an idea of the store's attitude toward guys trying on womens shoes. The first place I called told me it was absoluetely no problem, and as it turned it, it was not! I purchased several pairs of shoes there before they unfortunately went out of business. Calling ahead allows you to retain annonimity, and also alows the store to not be taken by surprise when you ask to try something on. They knew it would happen, just not who it might be. To this day, there are places where I will still call ahead. I ask if they carry my size range, and then if there is any problem with a guy trying on womens shoes in store. Responses have nearly always been positive or at least no worse than neutral. One place did laugh at me over the phone. Needless to say, they never received any of my business.

  2. I prefer quiet heels. I want to wear heels, and if people notice, fine, but I don't necessarily want to attract attention. I'm not one to show off.

    Steve

With you there Steve. But I do love it when the ladies wear heels that go click!

I must admit that the sound alwyas captures my attention, and when I look only to find a guy in typical mens shoes, it is disappointing. But that also reinforces why I prefer the quiet shoes for myself - if I always look to see where the sound is coming from, there certainly will be others that do as well, and I don't want the attention, thanks.

  3. I bought a pair of Nine West wedges a while back, and they were among the most comfortable shoes I've owned. The heel was about 4", no platform, but the added support in the arch made them much easier to walk in. They were a pump style, closed toe, with a buckle detail on the toe, and as far as the upper goes, I thought they were quite nice - I liked the cut of the shoe. All of that being said, I still am not crazy about the look of the wedge itself. Still makes me think of a block of something tacked on to the bottom of a shoe. There is no question that I would have liked the look of the shoe better if it had a traditional heel, but I'm sure it wouldn;t have been as comfortable. So I guess there are some redeeming qualities to a wedge heel, but they remain low on my list. And I have to add that, in my opinion, a platform wedge is among the worst looking shoes - blocks of junk both front and rear....lol. And I can't even go to wedge boots. That is a look I just don;t care for. But hey, everyone has their own style and taste. Thank goodness that the way of the world dosn't dictate that I have to like what someone lese likes. We all be clones living in the same style house, driving the same car, eating the same food, etc., etc.

  4. Shoeprints, I had a pair of those Nine West boots. They were really great for public heeling. The heel was high enough to make sure you knew you were in heels, but the overall look was not too feminine. The probelm I had with them is that they would pull my trouser socks down into the boot when I walked, and then the upper would rub against my bare leg, leaving an irritated spot. Ended up giving them away. I did wear them out several times, however.

Style is called NoLilyBell. Size 11, which fits my mens size 10-10.5 pretty well. Heels are nearly 4". Haven;t worn them outside just yet. Might have to get the heels quieted down some. While I enjoy the sound when the girls wear them, I'm not crazy about the attention they clicking garners when I wear them.

Just a follow up on these boots. They were fairly loud, so I took them to my local shoe reapir shop for a heel job. He filled the heel with a foam material and put on a rubber (as opposed to plastic or nylon, whatever the original was) heel plate, and they are now almost completely silent. I have worn them out only once (not much time for heeling with the holiday) and I could not believe how quiet they are now. They are also rather comfortable despite the 4" heel.

Thanks for the heads up Naiomi!

Nice heels! I treid those on at Target, but their 11s were a bit too snug for me.

Here are the shoes I got today. Just what I wanted. post-756-0-33330900-1356000424_thumb.jpgpost-756-0-76565600-1356000480_thumb.jpgpost-756-0-26477000-1356000531_thumb.jpg

Nice peep toes! Great heel, and the platform is understated, which I like. Are they comfortable? Do the platforms help reduce the pressure on teh ball of the foot?

  6. RonC, i haven't gone out in them yet but they have the advantage of being quiet, which is a good thing. I don't mink walking around in women's shoes and boots but I am not prepared for too much attention. I have other, louder, boots that I am hesitant to go out in, but may venture out in them at some point.

Yes, that was a great thing aboout them, and why I was willing to wear them out and about. Very quiet!

  8. Many of y'all like jessica simpson boots. Mine are very hard to walk in and it hurts my arches a bit too much. I have the torta boots and don't like to wear them too much.

Maybe I should find some js boots with some platform on the front.

I tried on a pair of the Trota boots, as I like the style. I agree, they did not feel very comfortable, as it seemed as if the arch was bent upward in the middle. It's a pretty high heel, so it is even more pronounced. Too bad. I'm glad I tried them on in the store instead of just buying them, form sure!

  9. I still think that most people cannpt walk gracefully in a platform of any size. 1/2 inch or so, fine, but by the time you get to an inch or more, I've seen no one that didn;t clop around in them. For me the whole idea of heels is to look graceful. Can;t be done in bulky platforms. Saw a girl in Norstroms today. The shoes she was trying on had to be about 2" platforms with a six inch (at least) heel. She was one fine young woman, trim and sexy, and she did as good as anyone I've ever seen in those things, but she still could not walk with the smae graceful stride of a single sole shoe. I would have loved to have told her that too!

  10. It had been a while since I was out shopping for heels. So today work took me out toward a mall that has a Nordstrom Rack and a DSW. I wore a pair of knee highs with my 3" chinky heel loafers and did a bit of shopping. Tried on several pair in Nordstrom, but nothing I really liked. Went to DSW where, unfortunately, they only go to size 11. Several shoes there I liked, but 11 is just too small in most instances, and nothing felt comfortable. Re-tried a piar of Jessica Simpson boot that have a 4+ inch heel. This pair seemed tighter than the pair I almost bought a couple months ago. Too bad, as they were marked down to $60. Also went to Shoe Carnival where a similar situation exists with few if any 12s. Again, there were a couple of styles I liked, but they were just too small. Darn big feet!

  11. Great topic FreshinHeels

Yes I do and I have been asking myself that for years which would explain all the times that I have binged and then thrown out many nice pairs of heels.

I too agree that if I could ignore the issue -life would be so easier but then those heels pull at me again and I'm back to them. But then when I get to wear them-I feel great and the the doubt starts again. It's a circle that I have been doing for many years now.

I have these same feelings. Boy, would I have a collection if I still had all the shoes I've purchased over the years - and would I love to have some of them back again!

  12. Just a guess here, but I have a feeling that some of this may have been simmering for a while. I think someone that was going to do a "Halloween Costume" type thing would be looking for something that rather screams "look, I'm a man in wonens clothes". On the other hand, I believe that someone that has been longing to dress as a woman does not want to stand out, they want to look as much like a normal woman as possible. That is possibly why he selected "normal" clothes and a pair of heels that are a long way from outrageous. I believe he's had some feelings for a long while, and when the opportunity presented itself, he grabbed at the chance to finally be able to dress femininely and wear a pair of heels in public. I'm not doing a great job of getting my point across here - not quite sure how to state it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are drag queens - who tend to go toward the outrageous looks as it is mostly just a party to dress up - and then there are crossdressers, who typically desire to wear exactly what they like to see women wearing, which is generally mainstream clothing styles. I just have a feeling that he may be a budding crossdresser that was just offered a chance to live his dream - and he jumped at the chance. I believe that I can idnetify with him on some level. I would have done the same thing, and would have wanted to look like a "typical" woman in the process - not a flamboyant character of a woman.

  13. Had an extended outing today trying on heels. First stop was Payless, where I was interested in a pair of chunky high heels loafers I saw on line. While I have tried on shoes many times in store, I would generally not do so if there were other shoppers in the immeidate vicinity. Today, for the first time, I just wnet ahead and tried them on even others were around. Of course, no one said anything, but they were looking....lol. Unfortunately, the size 11 didn;t fit, and there are no size 12s of this style to be found. Next stop was DSW. I tried on a few pairs of shoes there, and also a pair of Jessica Simpson boots that I've had my eye on (anotehr board member has a pair, but I can't remember off hand who it was). ANyway, they are a knee high boot with a chunky 4.5" heel. They fit decently, and I did like them (actually preferred them on the girl that was trying on the same pair...lol), but I was not prepared to part with a hundred bucks, so I moved on. Next stop was my favorite Nine West outlet that caries a lot of large sizes. I tried on numerous pairs there and had a difficult time not buying two or three pair. But I setteled on a pair of 4" heel wedges (can't believe I actually bought a pair of wedges as I resisted them for a long time). They are called Ontoyouo. On sale for $29.95. Tried the 11s and they were snug, but they had 12s in stock, and they fit quite nicely. I have them on right now, and have been wearing them for about three hours now. I never believed my wife when she said that two shoes having the same heel height, the wedge would almost always be more confortable, but now I beileve, as the wedge does provide extra mid foot support and they are fun to walk in. Just for the heck of it, I asked the clerk at Nine West if many guys shopped there. She said there were quite a few that came in to try on and buy heels. She is quite nice, and I have no problem shopping there at all. Here are a few photos. Mine are, howqever, black, not the grey ones shown here.

  14. Just bought these amazing Pepe Jimenez white patent pumps from classicpumps.com - just arrived today! They are the "Rossi" model with a 3.5" heel

They are just as I said... AMAZING. The toe cleavage, the soft leather, the 80s style... everything on them is incredible... I waited so long to find a pair like this and have the opportunity to slip them on... well, they are now ALL MINE!

For any heel lover and for those that don't have a fortune to spend on a Louboutin, these are the dream heels for sure...

Great choice! Same as I am wearing in my avatar photo, only mine are black patent. My favorite style of all time!

I like those Nine West pumps, Daniel. I'll have to look for a pair, but in at least a size 11, if not 12 for me.
