Sydheel Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 A new musical coming to Aust. Might have to go 2 Regards James
Shyheels Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 It sounds interesting - I've not seen it although it's been playing in London for quite a while. It is based on a true story and the music, by Cyndi Lauper has won all kinds of awards. I suppose it depends on the cast.
at9 Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I saw the original documentary a few years ago on TV. Haven't seen the movie. Plan to see the musical in London sometime. Discount tickets seem to be available from TKTS on most days.
swedeheeler Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 That show has recently been setted up here in sweden too.
Jkrenzer Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 They made this a movie several years ago and it's well done.
Sydheel Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 I just saw my fave store WITTNER has a kinky boot range in conjunction with the musical. They have red patent boots in thigh high and ankle I am in Melbourne soon so will have to drop in for a try on. Regards James
Shyheels Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 It would be interesting to see the size range in which they offer them, given that they are supposed to be released in conjunction with the musical, and just as interesting to know how well they sell and to which demographic.
Chorlini Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Spelling of the true story, considering the movie never followed up on this, did it actually work for that show factory? Are they still in business and under what name?
Shyheels Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) Nope, the firm on which the story is based went under, and not all that long after they made the transition from making old fashioned high quality shoes to kinky boots. Holding to tradition, they made quite high quality 'kinky boots' and were unable to compete against the lower quality, but cheaper, imports from China. Edited September 25, 2016 by Shyheels
DProud2700 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 My Niece and I went to see it in San Francisco about a year ago. We were sold on the show.
at9 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 The UK footwear industry was traditionally centred around the Midlands town of Northampton. The firm that switched from traditional footwear to kinky boots was in that town. There is now very little footwear made there. There is a museum. Here's a bit of trivia about the movie "Kinky Boots": https://northamptonmuseums.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/shoe-of-the-month-trickers/
