Well, I was about your age when I found an old pair of cowboy boots, always wanted another pair but it didn't happen untill my wife came home with a pair I liked so I went and got my self a pair like them. Just hang on and save your money, something will turn up.

I helps if you say whether you are USA or UK size and hence where you are. From those sizes you are both more likely to be UK than US. If so, then the best I can suggest is to try rummaging in the charity shops where you will find stuff from 5 to 10 GBPs amounts you might be able to rustle up. At 10 pounds they should be in very good condition. They won't of course be latest fashions but a year or two old at best so not too many stilettos as yet. I have certainly found three or four good pairs of ankle boots in generous 8s and even a 9 giving plenty of space for socks. One was a very narrow thin blade heel which is virtually a stiletto. _ At 14 you may be too young to use eBay and certainly electronic payment systems unless you have someone older to do it for you. _ Next look out for the Sales from December 27th onwards, when there should be lots of stuff heavily discounted down to the 10-20 pound range in the mass multiple stores. And double discounting a couple of weeks later but then it is mostly rubbish. What is good about the sales is everything is out on the racks so you can choose your size, quickly slip one foot on if you are brave enough then quickly pay at the till asking for the other foot. _ The cheapest ranges in the Argos Additions catalogue are in the 15-20 pound bracket. It might be possible to order, pay in cash and collect a few days later at the shop counters rather than telephone sales. _ Read the old threads in this forum for more ideas, e.g. look for the one on Brantano shops. Finally, start praying hard that your feet stop growing and don't get much bigger than an 8!! /I

Yes, it's tough and we all go through that. Mail order solves one problem but not the other. Try looking for some strappy stiletto sandals, they will wrap up into the smallest parcel to hide. I think it is easier to be a bit weird in a charity but go first thing in the morning when it is quiet. The shop staff are easier to handle than other shoppers. Good luck. /I

When I was a bit older than you I got my first pair of shoes from a jumble sale, they were stiletto sandals with a 3" heel ( I thought they were really high!) I made them fit by altering the straps. It's easier to get sandals to fit than court shoes. Size 7.5 is a bit large for most women so you might have trouble finding court shoes this size in a charity shop. You should be able to get stiletto sandals in a charity shop that you can alter. I used to hide my shoes in the loudspeaker cabernet of my record player so that my mum would not find them.

I have probably had a fetish for women's boots and shoes since around the age of 4 or 5, ever since I realized that they were different than men's shoes. It was about this time that I started to wear my aunt's shoes. I was perhaps 10 or 11 when I had high heels of my own (given to me by one of my aunts). At age 12 I went out and bought a pair of knee-high leather dress boots with 3 1/2 inch heels. I believe my mom discovered the boots when she was cleaning my room, but she never mentioned it.

I was 12 when I first started street-heeling in public, first of all by "borrowing" my mother's shoes without permission. Afterwards, when my feet outgrew her size, I found extremely cheap, larger sizes in charity ("thrift" in the US) shops. There's masses of such shoes around in any town for £1 to £10. By school leaving time, my feet had grown to size 9 or 9 1/2 UK, whereas most UK ladies' shoe shops stop at size 7 or 8. However, in the last few years there has been a growing number of outlets doing LARGE ladies footwear that caters for my present size - Magnus (London), Elephantfeet (Brixton). Nine to Elleven (Hampshire). These are relatively expensive specialist shops, but there are multiples doing much cheaper lines (especially in the sales): Barratts, Evans Ltd., and particular Brantano. Good luck in getting your first pair of high heels! It's fantastic! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Onwards and upwards!

Like most men, I tried on a pair of mom's heels when I was but a wee lad. Then there was the two weeks when I was around 10 and was hired to feed the neighbor's fish... She had size 5's, but I was young... They fit perfectly. So, I'd walk over, don a pair of her heels, and proceed. The next opportunity came when I grew into my mom's heels, around age 12. I was a latch-key kid, so for about a year I'd wander in my mom's heels throughout the house until just before she came home. After that, I pretty much left the scene, except for a college (sophomore) halloween costume. It wasn't until I blew out an ankle playing soccer during my junior year in college that I had any need (much less, desire) to wear an elevated heel - and it wasn't for another 4 years before any doctor realized what might help and prescribed an orthopedic shoe (at $350 a pop). It looked like crud, but the $20 boots at Payless did not, so, instead of blowing a huge wad of change trying to test the concept, I opted for Payless, and my ankle thanks me daily (and complains if I don't spend at least 30 minutes in a heel higher than 2 inches). These days I simply wear them as a matter of course after arriving home. Only recently, however (about three years ago) did I ever dare wearing heels out on the town. After I finally realized no one really gave a ****, the novelty quickly wore off. At this point, it's simply because A. I have to in order to mitigate the pain, and B. Because doing so can be fashionable if it's conservative yet tasteful. Well, that's another facet of my story...

Since your sister wears a size smaller than you do, you can't borrow hers. How about your mother? I assume your size is either smaller or similar to hers. Does she wear the styles you like? If so, have you tried "borrowing" them when she is not around? That is how I started.

People donate used but good clothing to resale and thrift shops here in the USA on a continuing basis. Unfortunately, most thrift shops end up with more merchandise than they can sell. To make room for newer donations, they often throw out older stuff that did not sell over a certain time frame. My elderly neighbor knew when a local thrift shop was changing their inventory. He would appear at their dumpsters and help himself to free clothing. So if they do the same in the UK, try and find out when they do this by asking the employees. Or you might try and get a job at a local thrift shop yourself. Try a part-time job if you are attending school.

Another suggestion is to ask your parents if you can perform household chores in return for an allowance.

When you have an event like a birthday, do you receive cash gifts?

Good luck.

I tried some on quite young. 4 or 5 years old, my mums I think, and I used to play dressing up with a girl about 4 years older than me. I was only ever interested in the shoes though which probably set a pattern for later. So, in my teens, I made some pairs, and hid some pairs, but when I went to university I just got fed up of the whole hidden thing and started wearing them wherever I fancied. Since then they've been a part of my regular attire. Not every day, but I certainly don't hide the fact I wear them.

  • 5 months later...

11 or 12 when I first tried on some stilettos, and liked the feel of them The first shoes I tried were some 1 1/2 inch heeled shoes of my cousin and then tried on her mums shoes, the stilettos, that started something as all here know only too well. Went through the whole hidden shoes thing at my parents house when I was in my late teens but didn't risk it for long.

Hi, I didnt buy my own pair of heels untill I was about 25, I just admired from afar. I thought I saw a post from you telling us that you had bought a pair? I guess you have thrown them out to stop your mum finding them? If you are struggling to hide your heels from your folks, then perhaps other members could help by suggesting good ways of hiding them? Then you would not have to be so depressed that you dont have any heels. best of luck,

When I was about 10, I managed to get ahold of a pair of black leather pumps with 4" heels that my friends mother was discarding and took them home with me. The perfect place to hid them was, or so I thought, in the hot air register in the floor. I pulled up the grate and placed them inside. Well, after a day or so the hot air cooked them, dried out the leather and ruined them. Good hiding place. Bad for the shoes, though. :D

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

I got my first women's high-heeled boots in late 1978 from Lane Bryant. That would have made me ~26 at the time. They were ~15" knee-hi black leather with a side zipper, plastic "stacked leather" look embossed heels, about 2.75" at the back, ~2.1" at front, size 12. Before that I had a pair of shoes remarkably similar to the "comfy loafer" avatar, and before that, a couple of pairs of decidedly feminine moccasins from Minnetonka (my feet hadn't reached their full length when I was 22--could still, barely, fit into a size 10), and a pair of canvas penny loafers, aka women's deck shoes. I also had access to a pair of my grandmother's "granny-style" wing-tip pumps when I was 12-14, though they grew too small for me as I got older (~size 7.5) and a pair of my older brother's "Spanish boots" that he bought in 1963 (later known as "Beatle Boots") with about the same heel height as the granny's--about 1.5" at front, 2" at back, though they were size 9. Finally, I had a pair of suede mens boots, similar heel height, that I got in 1967, size 10. They eventually got too small also. After they went out of fashion, my parents forbade me to wear them.

I'd been sneaking into my mum's room and pinching her shoes from being very small. Sadly by the time I got to about 12 there were only a couple of pairs of her boots that I could squeeze into, but my favourite Aunt had larger feet and hers fit me very nicely. I bought my first pair of my own heels when I was about 17. Since then it's been like an addiction, I've bought six pairs this year already! Chris

When I was a senior in high school (1978) was my first street heeling. I had a very narrow mens shoe size at that time (10 AAA) so there was virtually nothing avaible in men's shoes that fit me. My parents bought me a pair of stretch, shiny, black, knee high boots from Hayes mail order (I think the term GOGo boots is often used to describe them now) as I wanted boots that I could wear over my feet not over shoes. The boots turned out to have a 2" heel. At the time men's boot fashions were getting pretty high in the heels but I could not wear any of those styles due to the narrow foot problem. I wore those boots out. I wore them to school, church, everywhere. One can get away with a lot when they are still a "kid." I was subject to teasing but wearing them felt so good it was worth it. i did not lose friends because of it. Luckly I had liberal parents and blessed with a foot size (women's 12 C) that while hard to find at that time I could get something in. My parents had known of my wish to wear femine boots since I was in the sixth grade. I had worn my sister's snow boots and then larger sized women's snow boots until that year. I wore my high school boots off and on for several years after that but gradually stopped as men's fashions went back to lower heels and my sisters discouraged my wearing them. PS My feet have spread a bit but still fit a women's size 12 W or 12 B in higher heels. Selection in size 12 is a lot better than it used to be.

Dressboots:-) I see that you joined the High Heel Forum just recently and I would like to welcome you on the board. Your foot size is getting on the upper edge where it might be a bit difficult to find High Heels to fit you. One thing that I have noticed that surely will help you and all of the other fellows with larger feet is that women's feet are slowly increasing in size over a period of time. Luckily, I have small feet for a man and I can buy my heeled shoes and boots right off of the shelf. I take a size 7.5 in shoes and an 8 in boots. Cheers--- Dawn HH

dawn HH: Wow! I really envy your shoe size. It is more a matter of which style you want to get, not what style that actually comes in your size. But as you observe, women's feet are increasing in size so the selection available to me is increasing (slowly). I just count my lucky stars my feet stopped growing when they did. I am 6"2" tall. Most of my friends my height take a men's size 13 or 14 shoe. My femine heel wearing days would have ended long ago. Am not much into the ultra high heel fetish type boots and shoes that come in a much larger size range. I like more what I see on the street. Thanks for the welcome to the board!

Dressboots:-) My frame is a bit stubby as I only go 5' 4.5" and weigh 176lbs. Yes I am very lucky to be able to use a ladies 7.5 or 8 size shoe or boot. It is a pleasure to be able to buy off of the rack or from store catalogs. The same with dresses or other things as I use a size 16 or 18, and can again use the rack or catalog. The wife and I shop together for things. Keep posting on the board and you will have friends from all around the world. Cheers--- Dawn HH
