LailaLily Posted March 19, 2009 Share Posted March 19, 2009 In your area, do many people sport the "comfortable" look? u know..tennis shoes and such or do people wear heels outside. there are certain areas where u will find many people wearing heels such as LA,Miami,NYC...u know metropolitan like areas or sunny areas...lol. I live in NY so if its not stiletto boots...then its stiletto sandals. how is it where you live? I would also love to hear from the people who live abroad. Bubba136 Posted March 20, 2009 Share Posted March 20, 2009 Why can't you? Perhaps you might get a pair of heels that are less feminine in appearance and I'm confident you'll make out OK. No one is really going to think twice about your wearing them. Perhaps a nice pair of penny style loafers with 3 to 4" heels. Black or brown would do the trick. That style is my normal everyday wear and in 10 years of wearing shoes like that I've yet to have an adverse reaction. In the summer it's all low cut tops, tiny skirts and high heels... then you should see what the girls are wearing too! I am licky enough to live fairly close to central London so I see a feast of the most wonderful heels every day. The women wearing the highest heels are in the Montreal down town area. Also see a lot of nice heels in large shopping centers too. I would estimate 50% of women I see are wearing heels. For the last three days i've been making "statistics" just out of curiosity -- counting the percentage of women wearing medium or high heels passing me on my walk from the train station to office and back -- it is roughly one out of three (not counting children and elderly ladies). The weather has been sunny and the main streets relatively dry, but a little cold -- a few degrees below zero (Celsius). The location is close to city center, but not quite there. OLC Posted March 26, 2009 Share Posted March 26, 2009 I live in a fairly small Midwestern place (near the capitol of Michigan !) - and while I wouldn't say heels are very common for everyday wear, it's not out of place to see them, either. It's not uncommon to see other girls my age in 3-4" heels (especially when wedges were *really* popular), and I've even seen a few guys in them (granted, that was at the Rocky Horror Picture Show or a drag event - but at least that's *something*). It's this one that I refer to here; Mostly women I come across in this area wear trainers, wellies or ugh boots. They often drag their feet. They have short hair and wear track suits. Of course as always, there are those other exceptions when heels show up as the people are in their process for the work day. Then again, there are those rare heels that can be seen in the shopping areas or part of one's dating attire. So as I wear my stilettos, it's like episodes of sleeping dreams about heeling in my swimming suit or less, except I'm awake and fully dressed with everybody looking, but no one knows how to deal with or approach the unfamiliar sights of a high heeled person. Then add the fact I'm a guy wearing the stilettos and you have somewhat of an attentive, "but not wanting to show it", audience and no one has ventured to rock the boat in my presence (so far). Comeing from the same location i can say the same thing. As a guy wearing heels, you just get the ocasional random look. I have only seen 1 other guy out in high heels, and they were old 70's style. The majority of the people i am around are young mothers who are always on the go in their minivan and heel's are not practical. For a few days, i've again been counting the percentage of women wearing heels of around 7cm/2,5'' or higher on my walks between office and train station plus a bit longer walk through the Old Town. Counted all women who pass me, except children and elderly ladies, professionals at work (e.g. waitresses, window cleaners), dog walkers, nordic walkers, and cyclists. Weather has been dry and sunny, and around 10-15 degrees Celsius, so it allows for the widest variety of shoes to be worn, from ankle boots to almost sandals. But the percentage is about 20, i.e. one out of five. This is much less than i had perceived. I believe the reason is that i tend to notice and pay more attention to those ladies who do wear heels and thus get the higher perception . For men, the dress is fairly conservative, leaning towards simple suits, or jeans. Those who really care about us don't make a fuss about what we wear. I was sitting in my car at the center of city, waiting for my wife, and counting again the percentage of ladies wearing medium (about 2,5'') or higher heels passing by. It is between 20% and 25% (the sample size of 200 seems to not be representative enough to tell more precisely). Mostly sandals with something wedge-like below them. Just a couple of stilettos out of the 200 i counted. Only one pair of pumps. So what are the non-heelers wearing: lots of leather flip-flops and flat slide sandals (most of these are cute, IMHO), a few rubber flip-flops (i don't quite like these), a few flat ballerinas, only one pair of crocs, only one pair of sneakers (the favorites of Tallinn's ladies in Springtime). Among the last ladies i counted was Mrs. k6ps coming on her 5'' wedge sandals (with 1'' platform) and with a usual happy smile . These were certainly the highest and the freakiest shoes among all these 200 ladies. AdictedFashn Posted July 12, 2009 Share Posted July 12, 2009 i am about 20 min outside of philly, in my area (not in the city) if i go out most of the time people always say "omg i cant believe how high your heels are", flip flops are very common but you will see mid height heels if you go out to a local bar and someone is trying to impress a first date or something like that. now if you go into philly you will see high heels a lot more along with high heeled boots. down in ac (atlantic city) expecially at the ritzier casinos you see A LOT of higher heels.
