Well as a answer to that I'd say that I work as a contractor, stupid 'nuff to understand how things work  as my occupation demands me to know electricity, piping, thermodynamics and mechanics.

And not forgotten. Thank @pebblesf, @bambam and @CAT for the comments :)

Well then - - You could work in the steel industry - - but they still wouldn't hire you if you showed up as in your picture.

There are many people who think that wearing cowboy boots is gay.

Talked to a Boot manufacturers rep once about cowboy boots and that heel styles had shrunk, and the selection had changed a lot over the last couple years. He said the movie "Broke Back Mountain" just about destroyed the market. Sales plummeted shortly thereafter. Kinda sad.

I have several pairs of Men's Stretch Denim made by Levis and a search on the Levis' site turns up many styles that also come in the stretch fabric. Other brands now have stretch denim available. Still men's stretch denim is not even close to how nice women's stretch denim.

Once I stopped limiting myself to just part of the store, my choices opened up.  Does it fit and can I wear it to work are my only two main criteria I consider.

Pretty strange to say, but I can't think of a place that carries Levi's other than the women's department at JC Penney. I'm gonna have to pay attention next time I'm out

Has anyone in here ever visited a fabric store?  You'll see hundreds of yards of fabric, denim included, all rolled up like giant paper towel rolls. Stacked on top of each other.  Same goes with shoe leather rolls too if I'm not mistaken.   Most of the clothes we wear, just comes from a sheet of fabric.  And that sheet of fabric doesn't hold intrinsic masculine or feminine value.   So all this value I ascribe to wearing women's shoes or boots literally comes from a sheet of fabric, which in it of itself has no male or female value.

It's male/female value comes from social consensus achieved via advertising, marketing, media, and in today's world social media.  Yet, I'm still susceptible to outside definitions of what is male/female.

Indeed. And footwear of some sort is worn by all and so as a genus can be considered unisex. What it comes down to in terms of the male/female thing is a simply matter of styling of one particular element - the heel and, in the case of boots, the shaft height.

Interesting too is the difference colour and material seems to make in regards to jeans or trousers. A man would readily wear a pink shirt, and pink shirts can readily be found in the menswear sections of just about any high street shop - but pink jeans? Never. Or at least not in any high street shop. Material too.  Vinyl, faux leather and leather have become on-trend with women's jeans and trousers, but you would never see such offerings in menswear

And yet they are all jeans (or trousers)

In the case of jeans colour and material seem to be defining.

Your both correct in that the fabric has no defining characteristics relative to gender although you rarely find stretch denim in the men's department. Pink shirts are a regional thing - East and West coast and the daring in Florida and Chicago. Even out here in the stick, it's gonna provoke a 'gay' response or possibly a ""I've been married a long time and I can get away wearing this to Church on Sunday "" view point. Even men's dress slacks are fading out in favour of the cheaper jeans. The donation thrift stores are chocked full of what most call "Old Geezer" pants and shirts because nobody wears them. I can't say much because I haven't worn anything other than jeans and maybe corduroy pants in the last 35 to 40 years.

The other thing I see happening is the disappearance of stores selling true menswear. If you have to wear a suit or something a bit more presentable per dress code, your going to a JC Penney, Target, and maybe a couple other chain stores, but other than that, your going to have to drive an hour or so to get a better selection than Walmart.

Myself, there is nothing for me to consider in the men's department. Pleats in the front don't look good on me, it's all baggy and doesn't fit right. Pockets are way to deep for me (If I have to bend over to reach the bottom of a front pocket  - forgetaboutit) Hell, I can't even find underwear I like in the men's department - I have to order from Amazon and get it from China.

OK - - Done ranting - - I'll go back to my corner now !!

  6. Phfffftttt - - - I didn't get to far before I decided he was full of - - it !!

He obviously doesn't live where I do, makes way more than me, and spends a lot more too.

Soooo - - That being said, What does a 50 year old dude wear in these parts. First off, Camo is OK because you still go out hunting, You may actually find more time to do so. Carhart Jeans are always in fashion, but pricey, so you go with the cheaper option at Walmart, or the cheaper brands at your local Tractor Supply or Rural King stores. T-shirts in the summer are typical fare, but that U2 shirt may be an out in lieu of something like a Team MLB / NFL shirt. Cooler temps mean Flannel, and then progress to hooded sweatshirts. You have to wear a hat of some kind because less hair means to much sun on the top side, and being half baked all summer isn't good. Chevy / Ford / IH / John Deere MLB / NFL are all cool options in any crowd. Sneakers (again the cheaper fare at Walmart) are good casual dinner at a chain restaurant- - Unless your wearing coveralls. Muck boots then are your best option - - Kick the curb before you go into that Gas Station Subway.

Need I go any further with this ??

Oh - - and in the last couple years, anything with an American or Confederate flag, 2nd Amendment and MAGA is considered a good fashion option.

I would wear that out, that's tame by my standards.  I starting to wear leggings and yoga pants out with heels more and more.

You probably could in your world - - Me in the sticks  - - Oh hell no !!!

Even the women around these parts don't dress that well !

I kinda like the idea of mixing leggings, jeggings and / sporty outfits together with heels. I don't mind wearing either one of the three interchangeable with heels. to me it looks great. You look really good in that outfit and heels. :cheeky: I myself posted this image to the gallery wearing heels and leggings. What do you think heelster if you read this?

Yep - works great though I might not wear 'that' high of a platform casually out and about .

    Oh hell - - I'm thinking leggings / Jeggings.

  10. Tech is right. That being said, there are ways to approach this in casual ways.

    - - The shopping technique where you point out interesting styles you think would look good on her.

     - - Thumb through her Vogue magazine during a random conversation and point out heels (and other outfits) you think might look good on her.

By doing this, you may get an idea of what she will or won't wear, and why.

Just taken delivery of some Onlymaker 5" nude heels from Amazon. Size 9, heel measures 13cm.

I was wondering what the quality was like. I see about 4 brands on Amazon that all look identical, one of them being Onlymaker. I've been debating on pulling the trigger on a couple pair.

I used to work for a gal from the southern part of OH, close to KY.  Both she and her husband describe their part of OH exactly like Heelster does.  When they moved back to OH, some family came out to help and I sure as heck wouldn't be wearing heels out if they were representative of the local ambiance.  Not intending to talk trash in any way however they could take the term, "old school," and multiply it times 10.

Your not - - and other than maybe Cincinnati in the south Ohio area - - - - Your in the sticks.

I'm sorry Heelster that you have such a hard time finding stores near you, but your location says it all, "The sticks". Brick and Mortar stores are important, I want to try the shoes on before I purchase them. I found a pair of knee high leather boots in Last Call at Macy's the other day, nice 4 inch heel, full zipper...but I couldn't get the zipper all the way up.

You are correct in that I live out in the sticks. I have noticed that once I travel out into other metropolitan areas, I see more, but frankly, I saw a hell of a lot more in your world.

  14. Actually, I'm not surprised. Everyone I pass is empty. The only two women in two plants I work in called it "worthless".

My past experience at the one nearest me was terrible. They kept insisting I was in the wrong aisle, talked about me in the next aisle over, and avoided me like the plague. I was a lot happier at a Nine West outlet store before they shut down their brick and mortar - - spent more money there too. It was the closest store within a hundred miles of home too.

Now, the only option in the nearest city is Walmart. They have nothing but cheap sneakers, flip flops and slippers.

It's pretty much DSW from here out.

I NEED pockets. So I rarely wear them and only wear them when I have something else (like a vest) to carry my wallet, keys and phone.

Due to business needs and frankly, just because, I've shrunk my wallet down drastically. I rarely carry more than two keys, and since my phone needs severe protection from work elements, I had to go with an Otter case. means I have no problem with women's jeans now. I do the vest option when I travel out of the country. It's a leather biker vest with pockets inside designed for personal protection needs, but the pockets are big enough for a passport.

Yes, I know $800 is a lot for shoes but I also know quite a few of our members have more cash than they let on.

If someone asks me “What if you fall down?”  I would answer “I would get back up” :P

On 12/23/17, I found an unexpected patch of Ice  while wearing men's western boots with about a 1-1/2" heel. My feet went left, my right shoulder made contact on the ice covered concrete. On march 1st, I had shoulder surgery. 3 completely torn tendons, and the bicep needed rebuilding.

I've been a cold weather person for all my life - - - maybe it's time to reconsider.
