  1. Wow, you sure put yourself through a lot to satisfy your desire to wear heels.  I have to admit that, as much as I would respect someone for wearing heels regularly, doing so on a sight-seeing tour of DC was a bit beyond.  I'm kind of surprised (but glad!) that the experience didn't turn you off to heels, and also that you didn't do some irreversible damage to your feet.  Those heels were obviously single soled, but I see your avatar is a thick platform.  Did you stick with the single sole look or have you gone to the platforms?

I am not so sure it's a paradigm shift, but finally I have to ask myself if it's really necessary to wear ridiculously high heels everywhere I go.

For me personally, I find I am attracted to the more feminine styles.  As such, while I prefer higher (though not to your standards!) heels, I would likely get a fair amount of enjoyment from wearing a lower heel.  I have only owned a few with lower heels because when you can only have so many shoes at once you tend to be attracted to those that you like the most, I have enjoyed my time in the lower heeled shoes.  They are definitely more comfortable to walk in, and when I look down at my feet, I still get the enjoyment of a feminine appearance.  If I had the same level of confidence as you in terms of my willingness to be seen in heels, I would happily wear that pair, as they fit my definition of a feminine style.

  3. @mlroseplant Wow.  I can't decide if that is out of, or well within, your comfort zone....lol.

After bashing DSW in an earlier post, I have to recant a bit.  I stopped at another store Wednesday and the selection of dress shoes/heels there was probably close to double that of the previously mentioned store.  And they even had some size 11's on the shelves, which I hadn't seen much of at DSW in some time.

  4. Interesting shoe.  It is a style that is at once off-putting to me but then I look at them and think of how comfortable they might be with good padding and the lace up for a solid fit.  I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have to say that I'd like to try them.

  5. I've never had a problem driving in heels.  Drivers are typically taught to operate the brake and clutch pedals with the ball of the foot, so the heel, unless very, very high, should not really be a factor.  I have driven in heels with a small platform and had no issues, but I could see a large platform throwing things off.  Never had my foot slip off of a pedal when wearing heels.

  6. I agree with wanting to look at ease when walking in heels.  That is a big part of why I don't go too high, as I know I cannot walk with any ease or gracefulness when the heels are beyond my 4" or so limit.  I don't try to walk like a woman as such, not the crossing of one foot in front of another, but I try to shorten my step and not look like a hulk either.

We talked for a few minutes and she told me she would have gone out with my if I had asked. I never remotely though I was in her league!

Ouch...that would make me even more frustrated that I never asked.  At least I can still placate myself by thinking she would have said no thanks....lol.

  8. A stop in the local Macy's and DSW stores yesterday was depressing.  At Macy's, while the shoe department hasn't shrunk in terms of floor space, they took out at least half of the display racks, with the number of offerings of dress shoes/heels shrinking probably by that amount as well.  DSW was even worse.  While I had become accustomed to the reduced offerings, there were still two full length double sided aisles of heels and dress shoes.  Yesterday, the dress shoes were limited to three 1/2 length sides, not even the equivalent to a full two sided aisle of offerings (not counting heeled boots here).  It is painful to see the availability of heels fall so drastically in the stores, especially when i can remember what was likely four double sided aisles with heel after heel on display.  I'll never forget the first DSW I visited.  I thought it was heaven!  Now, it's gym shoe hell!
