Is perfection based on just the way it looks, or how it performs in the real world?

Seeing as how any heel I wear seems to hurt these days, that leaves me to choose by looks I guess....lol.

I would think the "perfect" shoes would need to be one that more than satisfies in both looks and performs.  For folks like @mlroseplant and @Jkrenzer that wear their heels all the time, I would think that performance plays a role at least equivalent to looks.  For me, given how rarely I actually get to wear my heels, I lean toward looks, though I will admit to trying to find something that I can wear more comfortably even if it means giving up a fair piece in terms of look.  Haven't found anything yet that is comfortable yet satisfies my need for the right look.  A while back I bought a pair of Clarks pumps like these.

Basic, not much to look at, practical heel height, considered to be a "comfort" shoe.  Something I thought I could wear and walk in in public.  Thought if I got an 11 wide they would work well.  Tried them on and proceeded to walk out of the left shoe, and while the right shoe seemed to fit nicely, standing in them for just a few minutes made my feet hurt.  So even when I choose performance over looks I can seem to win!

Just wished they would at least do 4.5 to 5 inch.

As I am happy with 4" heels, I think that is fine.  I will say this however.  I bought a pair of their Rossi style in both size 9 and size 12, the heels of which are stated as 3.5 inches.  Measured up the back, they were both 4 inches in height, and they do state that the heels tend to get taller as the shoe size increases.  So I would imagine that their 4" styles in larger sizes may well measure 4.5 inches.  You could always text Walt, the owner, as to the actual heel height in your size.  Shoes in the Lola/Lucy line might fall in that category.  They are wonderfully cut shoes in real leather.

  3. I did have one pair of oxfords with a thicker heel of about 3 inches.  They were the most comfortable heels I've had as they were of sufficient width, and I think the lace up feature of oxfords does provide extra opportunity for comfort as it does create a "customizable" fit.  That, combined with the thicker socks you wear with those, I think makes for a better overall fit with less slippage of the foot within the shoe.

Btw, I don't think you look annoyed.  More like bemused...lol.

  4. I think mine will always be the shoe in my avatar.  A single sole, black patent, low cut pump with some toe cleavage and a 4" stiletto heel.  Unfortunately some health issues are causing me to have foot problems and 4" heels are becoming quite uncomfortable for me.  Think I'm going to have to lower my expectations!

  5. I'm trying hard to remember my confirmation class from like 1966 I believe.  While all of the girls definitely wore dresses, I think only one or two had heels.  But every one of the boys wore a suit and tie.  I think the world was a nicer, much more well mannered, place back then.  I wore a coat and tie to church Easter sunday, and I have to say that is the only time this year that I have done so.  I'd be happy to go back to the days when ladies in dresses and men in coat and tie as expected dress in church.

I thought the girls all looked rather nice, except for the fact that their shoes were too low. 😛

Yeah.  I had hopes that the beautiful weather we had that day and the loosening of Covid restrictions might result in some ladies digging out their real heels.  Alas, it was not to be in my suburban Chicago location.  I've seen reports that heels are selling well again, but I'm sure not seeing that in practice.

On Easter Sunday, I noticed a lot of the ladies in heels in church and shopping at the supermarket after.

While our church is much, much smaller, the only person wearing a shoe that I would consider as being a high heel was the pastor in a 3+ inch stiletto pump.  Maybe two others with a 2" heel, one a block heel on a younger lady and one with a narrower heel but a style that I see as being targeted to the more elderly population.  I thought maybe Easter Sunday would bring out a few more heels, but no such luck, young or old.

  8. As mentioned by many of us, seeing a lady in heels is pretty much a rare sight these days.  Therefore Saturday morning was a rare treat, at the local golf course of all places (they do have many functions there, weddings, wedding and baby showers, etc.)  As I was loading up my clubs into my cart, I noticed a young lady about eight cars down the aisle unloading large gift packages from her trunk.  She had on a very nice dress, black nylons, and a pair of about 4" single sole instep strap heels.  A sight for sore eyes.  She was struggling some with large packages and I thought about going to see if she needed help but I was waiting for another golfer so I couldn't just take off.  Anyway, she managed to get both packages in her arms and close the trunk.  I watched her walk away and her grace in those heels was stunning.  Her stride was so smooth and confident.  Obviously an experienced high heel lady.  She sure made my day!

Also, I can't figure out how you got your feet to go like that. Are you, like, insanely flexible?

Lol.  I was thinking the same thing!  As @chesterx mentioned, he generally goes for the classic looks, and I'd have to agree with him that these are a bit outside of that.  The print is not too crazy, but there is an awful lot of cork showing here, and a pretty large platform as well.  I'd think that these might appeal to you @mlroseplant :fine:.  I think I might get a nosebleed if I tried them....lol.

Back in the day, membership exceeded 1,000, and you'd get maybe 250 to 300 on a typical Sunday among three services. Today, I'm guessing it isn't even half that, and that's pre-pandemic.

Yeah.  Our church is suffering the same issue.  Just got a new settled pastor and we're hoping that gets things moving in a better direction.

As a young toddler, who didn't know the difference about much of anything, my desire to wear the shinny black patent leather buckle strapped footwear like the pairs pictured are some of my first memories in this mortal existence.

Even after being told that only girls were suppose to wear these styles of shoes, it didn't seem right that my young male desire to wear these type of shoes is forbidden. So I have always wanted and have kept trying to wear stylishly beautiful shoes as I have grown up. I believe when I was about to enter my first year of elementary schooling that a special pair of the classic styled black patent leather spike/stiletto pumps like the heels pictured caught my notice, which advanced my desires to include high heels.

Would be difficult to not desire to wear those black patent pumps!  Those are a fine example.

  12. I've had both Pfizer shots.  First one a little soreness in the arm at injection site.  Second one I had much more soreness and it lasted a couple days.  No other impacts.  Wife had her second Pfizer today.  First one nothing, but she said her arm hurts a bit today.

  13. Those look like fun as well.  Personally, I wouldn't have minded the sling back to help hold the shoe on my foot, as I tend to throw off slide styles when I walk.

I very much like the look of patent leather was well.  That said, for public wear, I would be unlikely to go with patent as it becomes so much more obvious as to what you're wearing, and I prefer to remain pretty anonymous.
