    JeffB,

The only thing you miss is the limited budget many women face. How would you deal with that?

Well, I'm far from wealthy, so I'm careful when I shop, favoring places with sensible (read: low) prices like Sears, JCPenney, Old Navy, Primark and Payless, and I always look for bargains wherever and whenever I can.

  2. That's a big, fat NOPE from me, and I've worn just about every major piece of women's clothing save for shorts (which I don't like) and evening gowns (which I'd love to wear). Of course, it helps to be extremely careful about where I go and when I wear what I love, for example, never in my own neighborhood (West Philadelphia) which is rather....turbulent at times, even violent, thus my preference for downtown areas and suburban shopping malls. Also, I never go out after dark when anything could happen just about anywhere. I'm also careful about my surroundings, regardless of where I go, and I'm respectful of others and never look for trouble, I simply do my best to blend and be as unobtrusive as best I can.

  3. Here's my latest footwear acquisition from Payless: the "Ripley" short slouch boots in gray with 3 1/2 cone heels. I've had my eye on these boots since before Christmas, but was undecided because of the height of the shafts and the oddly shaped heels, but I decided to take the plunge a couple weeks ago and was happy that I did. The style of the boots, especially with the shaft height was perfect to wear with leggings (I chose gray which provided contrast with the leggings) as I wore them to the King of Prussia Mall yesterday while the cone heels which I rarely see quickly grew on me. The boots were easy to wear, comfortable and the heels were good and loud, right up my alley.

The down side though is trying to find good fitting tops. I say it is easier to find bottoms, but it seems there are so many shapes and sizes of tops that I have to venture all over the place. But I won’t let that stop me though. Thanks to @JeffB and your multitude of fashionable posts, I am convinced I will find some that suit me!

I've found that shopping for women's tops can be a tad problematical. If you're tall and have long arms like me, sleeves often fall short which isn't a good look. Since men tend to be a bit thicker around the chest than women, you'd have to buy one size larger than needed. What helps is to take measurements of your chest, then check the sizing charts for women's tops and see what size works best for you. Good luck with your search.

  5. My latest acquisition: Payless "Zayden" over-the-knee boots in black faux suede. I wore them on an outing yesterday and found them comfortable and easy to wear, even though they didn't come in wide width. And, I caught a sale as they were on clearance and spent all of $15 bucks (normally $45) after shipping.

  6. My latest purchase from Payless, the "Waylan" ankle boots in taupe with four inch block heels (measured from the back) which I broke in on an outing to the King of Prussia Mall yesterday. Despite the height, the block heels were perfectly stable and easy to stand and walk in, and even though they didn't come in wide width, the boots were still comfortable.

  7. HappyinHeels is quite right about the importance of taking measurements and determining your dress size. I'm 6 foot 2 and 185 pounds (down from 243 on May 1, 2017) and wear a size 12. Bear in mind that not every item in a particular size will fit the same way, depending on style, cut and fabric, so be cautious about what you choose to purchase.

  8. Yes, people will notice men who wear high heels in public, to which I say....SO WHAT?

That fact has always been a given. When I began my outing thread ten years ago, I was noticed when I wore heels under long jeans, today I parade around in skirts and dresses (most of them short), handbags, earrings, even the once in a blue moon dalliance with lipstick, people notice that too, they’d be blind as bats if they didn’t notice a six foot two inch, middle aged black man decked out from head to toe in women’s wear, and you know what....I DON’T CARE! Perhaps I approach this from the angle of having a decade’s worth of experience freestyling under my belt, but, in my biased opinion, it’s just no big deal that people notice. I’ve said on more than a few occasions that people are usually too wrapped up in their own lives and affairs to care about a guy in a skirt and heels, they’ll see me for a few fleeting moments in passing, then I’m quickly forgotten and never thought about again. It simply isn’t that big a deal. Not at all.

Something else I’ve said plenty of times, and it’s incredibly important is that you make the best possible appearance when out in public. When you dress well and carry yourself with class and dignity, people will accept you for your presentation, or, more than likely, not give a damn one way or the other. Sure, I’ve gotten looks, long stares, second glances, the whole nine yards, I’ve long since accepted that and it no longer bothers me, not even when cruising down bustling downtown streets or crowded shopping malls. In all the years I’ve done this, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gotten negative comments and still have fingers left, exactly the opposite, I’ve had women AND men compliment me on my appearance, giving me kind words on everything from my clothes, shoes, jewelry, even my handbags. The fact I’ve been treated well by complete strangers tells me that I’m doing this right, and that means a lot.

i understand that not everyone here is as accomplished as I am when it comes to doing outings, and others don’t have the confidence, or the boldness to do what folks like me or nzfreestyler do when it comes to our public presentation, so, you just do the very best you can, and, above all, take pride in how you present yourself so that it doesn’t matter that you’re noticed.

    JeffB,

Not that you wear them anymore but I have noticed most of the cool women's jeans have tiny front pockets probably assuming the wearer will have a handbag. Once one carries a handbag it would be difficult to NOT be without one. One of the items I carry is an extra set of heels if I have a change of mood or I'm headed to a venue with a different vibe. HinH

Oh, yes, tiny front pockets on jeans has been a standard for the longest time, same for some styles of denim jeans. I started out with a Buxton bag which I saw as gender neutral, but I soon decided to go with purses and handbags, and I feel better for my decision. I mean, why carry a gender neutral bag when I'm wearing skirts and dresses?

  10. I never leave the house without a handbag as the notion of putting ANYTHING in pockets is an alien concept to me. The size of my bag often depends on where I go on and the activity I’m engaged in, I have small bags to big satchel bags, and in several colors but mainly black as black goes with just about anything. I enjoy the comforting heft of a full bag on my shoulder while out and about, and it’s fun.
