Dawn HH
TBG:-) Your wearing boots to work is just great and I wouldn't change that for nothing as you have been very successful in doing so. This is something that I definately can't get away with where I work as this just will not fly for anything. But then we can all live vicariously through people such as yourself, and you know who the others on here are without me enumerating their names. Keep on doing what you are doing and many successes for you in the future. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
softmover
Throughout the whole winter I also have worn 4" brown boots with a stacked heel (not Cowboy style however) under jeans to work. At the beginning, i got some looks from co-workers but eventually, they all get used to it. Interestingly, meanwhile I sometimes get questions when I turn up to work NOT wearing heels. I think that almost everybody is able to get used to the look of a man in heels, however, for most of the people this requires a mental process of thinking. Imho this process takes time and cannot be accomplished by once seeing a man in heels quickly passing by on the street. It's like with children: they learn through repetition So let's give them input to kick off the learning process. -softmover

Thighbootguy
At work, we had our annual health screening today. The environment was a large room with tables around the edge and you went from one table to the next. The first station was height and weight. The first thing the gal said was, “Take off your shoes”. I was wearing brown leather knee high boots with 3 ¼” block heels under my slacks. I took my boots off and sat them by my chair as though it was the most normal thing in the world, but it did get a couple of looks from other folks in the room. After they got their measurements, I pulled my boots back on and closed the side zipper and pulled my pant’s cuffs back down, again to the stares of several others. The next station was for blood work and after they drew blood, I had to move to a waiting area while they analyzed it. In the waiting area, one of the plant workers spotted my heels and just sat there staring at me for several minutes until my results were ready. I’ve never had anyone do that to me before. The screening results indicate I’ll probably live and I’ll do it happily in heels. 1 I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned. ShockQueen
I decided I wanted to wear some nicer boots to work today, so as I'd had these 4.5" ankle boots sitting around doing nothing, I thought to give them some exposure, so off I went to work with them under my flare jeans. The best part is........ I don't think anyone noticed. Then again, I think they're used to me by now. I was elated! Definitely the best end of a work week I'd had in quite some time, and now in stiletto boots to boot! :-) SQ.....still busting societal molds with a smile...and a 50-ton sledge! ShockQueen
I measured the ankle boots I've been wearing to work this past week, and I think they're actually 5" stilettos, as they are the same height as my knee-high leather boots. So tomorrow I'm going to switch out for my knee-high black boots under jeans, as the profile is exactly the same, and the only difference will be the one I feel around my legs. I've just about gotten used to 5" spikes, so I guess it's only natural to continue on! SQ.....still busting societal molds with a smile...and a 50-ton sledge! ShockQueen
I'm simply gobsmacked. I never thought I'd be able to freely heel everywhere again, but by gum it's happened! I've gotten back into my full-on heeling mode no matter if I'm at home, out with friends, or even at work - it's been reintegrated into my life! I'm floating on clouds at the moment, because it's just such an elation! It's so funny that in a state known for being conservative, I've been able to be me again, and be FULLY me! This is my taste, this is my style, and this is how I want to be - and people are FINE with it! Pinch me, I must be dreaming! This past week, I've been in my Flair-2010 platform boots, and some of the gals have commented on how they like them, and everyone else just treats me as if I was wearing sneakers! Yes, I'm elated because I didn't think it would be possible here, and here it's happened! It really is all about co-ordinating the overall image, and the rest just falls into place! Yay! Thighbootguy
I’ve been wearing boots at work since I started this thread and it is the exception when I’m not wearing them. When I started it was boots under my jeans now its boots under whatever pants I’m wearing. I still haven’t worn them over my pants. When I started I wasn’t trying to hide my boots but I made an effort to be inconspicuous. When I was in a meeting I made sure I sat at a table with my boots out of sight. That has changed. This week I was in a training session and I sat in the front row at a computer desk. I was wearing knee high brown leather boots with a 3” block heel. At one point I noticed my slacks cuff was up near the top of the boots. In staff meetings are and open forum where we sit around an office. I’ve been known to cross my legs, which really shows off whatever boots I’m wearing. Today I was wearing a pair of grey suede knee high boots with 4” block heels under long jeans so only the tip of the boot was showing but I was also 4” taller. I had to walk through the personnel department (a place I never go) and lady noticed my height and did a quick glance at my feet. She didn’t miss a beat in her conversation and I just nodded a hello. I’m still not planning on wearing boots over my slacks or stilettos but I’m having a blast. I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned. Kittyinboots
Post #200 Today I took a daring step by wearing my tall black cowboy boots to work, jeans tucked in, temporarily until I changed into my dress shoes when I arrived. I was dressed in all black, black dress shirt, black jeans and black boots. So there was less attention since there was no color contrast which would make the boots stand out too much. If anyone might point out my boots, I would have simply said that they were my "snow boots" since we would have 2-4 inches of snow tonight. When I arrived I kept my boots on for about a few minutes, greeted one lady who was talking on the phone. Everyone else who was in the office at the time were already at their cubicles. Started warming up the coffee machine, wearing my boots. Then finally changed into dress shoes while it was pouring. My new office is for the most part a conservative office where men dress in business casual. Yet of course, there are several young women who wear stiletto boots, jeans tucked in (jealous). Spent the whole day in dress shoes, and finally it was time to leave for our Christmas office dinner. So I decided to wear my cowboy boots for the first time jeans tucked in at the restaurant. In other Christmas office parties in the past, I would be in a full business suit, but with this new office I would go casual. I figured I would get some joking or criticism for dressing up like Johnny Cash, LOL. Fortunately the restaurant was relatively dark, and it was sports night with NFL football game, Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings, with playoff implications. I found just me and my supervisor at the entrance waiting to be seated. We soon found our long table arrangement for our party of about 15. So I found myself sitting down for most of the evening, boots out of sight, underneath the table. Everyone in our party was busy conversing with each other, or watching the football game to take real notice of my boots. Dinner went through smoothly, but then I started wondering when I would get called out for wearing my boots. I remember confirming with one of the fashion critical employees, that if you don't want to get called out or be the subject of many jokes, you dress conservatively especially if you are a guy. So I waited for the right time to leave and thank the bosses. I could not be the first or second to leave. I could just imagine everybody talking behind my back as I walked out of the restaurant. Turns out since it was snowing heavily, the shallow and beautiful people had to leave early since they live far away. In fact the bosses, except for one left early as well, since the commute time would be longer. Finally I left at the same time as my supervisor, since I escorted her to the nearby garage parking. As we trodded through the snow, my boss was thinking to herself that she needed snow boots. I just agreed, and said that it was that kind of weather. I was very correct to wear boots today with all that snow. Who knows if I will get any mention of my boots at the office, but for now it was a good, lucky outing all in all. My 95% confidence level in cowboy boots went up to 96%, at least for today. Now if only I can wear my cowboy boots fully exposed at work all day without hesitation, and wear my boots in front of my side of the family (very fashion critical). This may very well be a one-time event. But if I knew that my coworkers actually liked my boots and how I wear them, I may try it again. Spent six hours in boots after work, also hoping to inspire other HHP members and gain more courage from their adventures as well.
Charlie
Interesting experience Kittyinboots! I wore my 4" heeled western boots to work yesterday with long jeans. I usually wear boots with 3" heels and yesterday was the first time I ever wore 4" heeled boots to work. I've made sure I'm an expert on them before attempting this. Not one word or stare. Like another poster above said, there were a couple of people that noticed the increase in height. I could tell, but again, no remarks. It's amazing how much difference a mere inch in heel height can make! Today I wore my fancier western ankle boots with python accents and the more traditional 3" heel. They got far more attention due to the white python accents. Several co-workers asked to see the whole boot and all thought they were the coolest pair I've worn yet. Life is good! Heelster
After reading this whole series of posts, I'm somewhat shocked in that a 2" western style heel would garner strange looks, or concerns - - and here is why. Since I was a little kid, I've been wearing western style boots. usually with a riding heel. but early on, it was usually a block heels. I've been wearing 1-3/4" to 3" underslung heeled boots for the last 20 plus years. If it's not these, then it's hiking boots or a work style boot. I don't do Nike's, Reebok's, and never anything like a loafer or florshiem(Yuck) Up until 3 years ago, I always wore a western heeled boot. I never thought of them as high heels - - -They are just boots. Within the last three years, it's steel toe at work, and western boots only on occasion. I go camping, trail hiking, canoeing, everything including mowing the lawn in 'cowboy boots' - that's what they were made for. I might not wear a 3" heel walking around the Smoky Mountains, but a 2" is normal for me. Work - Black jeans and boots, dinner out was Levi 505's and boots. I worked in a major faucet manufacturer engineering department in long sleeve dress shirt and ties with black jeans and boots. That's what I showed up at the interview wearing, and that's what I was going to wear at work. It's not an issue for me, it's what I wear. If they didn't like it, too bad, but nobody ever told me I couldn't wear boots (and I would have ignored them anyways). It's what I do. Lately, my problem is that all the western wear / tack shops have gone out of business around me. Nobody carries boots unless it's a big chunky 3 pound behemoth heel barn boot that looks like it's supposed to be worn in a barn. There are just ugly. When I do see western boots, they all are sized too big. I wear an 8D mens boot. Usually they start at a size 10. I've ordered a pair recently, but it took them 3 months to ship, and I haven't been too impressed with them. Only a 1-3/4 tapered heel. At least now I know since I've been around this forum for a while that there are still makers of 'real boots' out there, so I may order some new ones soon, and hope they fit. Last week. I finally decided I had to retire my last pair of Justins and Dingo's. They were re-soled at least 3 times, and countless heel replacements. Just isn't anything left to stitch too anymore. One of the pairs was the ones I got married in (Yes I wore boots) Had a nice fire going in the fire ring out back, so there they were went. Now that I think about it, I have a very old, but in virtually new condition pair of Justin boots in a mens size 7-1/2D Pointed toe with a straight snip. Used for square dancing a few times by my Grandfather. Probably bought somewhere between Nebraska and Colorado. Probably a good 40 t0 50 years old. If someone is interested, I'll get them back from the last remaining tack shop (specializing in English riding) and offer them up here.
Charlie
It seems we always get a charge out of what we can't see, rather than what is apparent. True. This very concept is exactly why Alfred Hitchcock movies were so great. Today, not much is left to the imagination. Kittyinboots
With a blizzard starting today, I wore my tall black cowboy boots again to the office temporarily. One of the young nice looking ladies who wears boots almost daily asked me if I was getting ready for this snow, I said that I was getting dressed for the weather. She looked over and noticed my cowboy boots and said "Oh cool, look at those boots." I was thrilled that she actually liked those boots on me. I walked over to her cube with my boots still on and coffee in hand and chatted a bit before the office staff started arriving (daring for me). After spending most of the morning in dress shoes, my supervisor told me to go home early since the blizzard was starting and everyone was leaving. I stopped by the restroom to change into my tight fitting black denim riding jeans, so that I could just pull on my boots without tucking in. As I left a few other workers saw my boots with no comments, perfect. Spent about 1.5 hours in slow traffic in my boots. Snow was very high, jeans tucked into boots was very correct for this weather. This was a good day since a pretty girl liked my boots.
Thighbootguy
I have been wearing knee high boots with a 2"-3.5" block heel to work for months and I knew that most of the other folks in the office had noticed. Yesterday, I wore trainers to work and one of the gals (that I don't often work with) passed me and said, "Oh, I didn’t recognize you without your boots." Today, I saw her again and she kidded me, "I recognize you today since you're wearing your boots." This was all said in fun but I hadn't realized what an impact my wearing boots had on other folks. I was floored that one, she noticed, and two, that she thought enough to joke about it. I'm reading the feedback as positive. Charlie
I would read it as such as well. It's been my experience that we make our niches and others are generally quite accepting of them. I get the same thing if I wear anything less than a 3" heeled boot. LOL Charlie Everything I say is a lie!.......I'm lying
hh4evr1
I wore heels to work in my last job. The Monday to Thursday dress code was smart/casual and Friday was casual. I wore heels Monday to Friday but trainers Friday. I had someone ask me on a Friday where my heels were (in a joking way).
Kittyinboots
Earlier this week, I wore my tall black cowboy boots, jeans tucked in, on and off throughout Tuesday. Since it was a cold rainy day, several employees wore boots. I started my day in boots for about 1.5 hours, even worked a few desks looking at their computers. Spent mid morning in dress shoes, then changed back into cowboy boots to go out to lunch. It was a slower day at our office, but it was a little nerve racking spend the last half hour in boots, wondering if I would be called out or teased. Left for home, since I started early, my supervisor got a passing glance at my boots through the glass door entrance. This is no big deal since she has seen me at a few outside company events in my cowboy boots. Still waiting and wondering if I could manage to wear them for an entire day. But at least I spent a good 2 hours in boots in a work day, which is a record for me.
