HHHHEEEEEEE'S BACK:-) Good report on my May 29th visit to my surgeon. I find that I not only had a torn rotator cup but also a torn bisept that was repaired during surgery. I am to return to work on May 8th, but I must also have a stint of rehab in order to make sure that my shoulder and arm will work to their fullest aspect in the future. Not a good report--- On Sunday May 31st, Mickey became very sick to her stomach and began talking out of her head. I quickly called the paramedics and sent her to the hopital where they decided she should stay there for a few days . She is still in there as of now. It seems that her sugar count went into 700, and she lost a good percentage of her electrolites. That is all that we can report as of now. We are finishing up some of the final repairs that the storm of Feb 11th caused us so we should be back soon to the condition that we were at before the storm roared through us. I am now to the point that I don't have to wear that padded sling any more and I can drive again. I have some pain in my arm and shoulder but we are controlling that for now and I can once again begin to catch up on my posting a bit. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Thanks for the update, Dawn. Good to hear that you are recovering well, and that you will again be able to give Mickey all the care she needs when she can return home (which I hope can happen soon).

Does that mean you will have almost one whole year off, until you have to start again on May 8th ? :evil grin:

Good news about your arm, Dawn! Welcome back. Sad news about Mickey, though. Sorry to hear that she is under the weather again. Hope they sort things out soon so she can get back home where she belongs.

Tom-NL:-) See what happens when I can't post regularly. I lose track of time. Thanks for pointing out my typing mistake. That should, of course, be June 8th. I certainly wouldn't want to be off posting for a whole year. That surely would screw me up royally. TEE! HEE! Cheers--- Dawn HH

Good news everyone--- Mickey is now home from the hospital and in a few more days, I'm sure she will be back to her old self. She felt that she could soak up a few of the Suns rays today by puttering a bit outside in the good weather. After an hour or two, she came in saying she was getting tired and would lie down for a while. She wants me to be off the Forum so she can view a movie on TV at 9 PM that she wants to see, so I will gladly give her her wish. Fez, the Wonder Dog, is napping along with her as he wore himself out barking and chasing everything that moves no matter what it may have been. It gives me a great and quiet opprotunity to do some posting. TEE! HEE! Cheers--- Dawn HH

Hi all:-) Mickey and I will not be posting here for a few days as it is time for us once again to take our vacation, Holiday for the Brits, in our 1935 Chevrolet on another tour through Pennsylvania with the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. "Tour the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet" sung to the popular Chevy ad---and we do. This time through the beautiful and popular Lehigh Valley area. We both will be visiting with you all once again upon our return. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Hi everyone:-) Well we are back from our vacation. On the way back, Mickey was complaining that her leg was hurting her a lot, so I took her to the emergency room at the hospital where she remained for three days and then was sent directly to a rehab home where she is now. She has a highly infected nerve in her leg and can't stand or walk on it at present. Needless to say--- I'm busy trying to get her set up in the rehab place, taking care of all of her wants and needs, doing washing, drying, dishes, taking care of the house and dog and putting miles on the car spending a lot of time with her at the rehab home. Me---well I have developed a pinched nerve in my back since my back surgery, had an x-ray done, need to have an MRI and possibly a short stay in the hospital to receive a shot in that location. Other than that---everything is fine. Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey 68

Thank you all so much for your prayers and thoughts. Both Mickey and I appreciate them so much. You all are a great group of people to know. This past week has been looking up for Mickey as her care-givers and specialists have been able to get her to stand for short periods of time several times a day and yesterday I got word that she was able to walk a bit and now is up to 12 steps a day.:) Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey 68

Hi everyone:-) An up-date on Mickey's leg--- The infection in her leg has taken a turn for the worst and we have known for about 2 years or more that we would be down to our last option for saving that leg. Well, the time has come for that option. On Wednesday, September 30th, the doctors are going to put her into the hospital to amputate the leg. We don't have all of the details yet such as how long a stay in the hospital, etc., but she is to return back to the rehab home for recovery after that. I'll let you all know as those details develope. She will definately not be able to attend the Canton Ohio Heel Meet for sure even though she really does want to attend. I will be there by myself unless something else develops in between that we can't foresee at the moment. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Hi Everyone:-) This has been a very trying time for the both of us, especially Mickey. Her left leg had to be amputated as a last resort and no hope for her health to improve without it, and was done 10 days ago. That first week was extremely difficult for her as she was down and out of it for a while, but this week has been much, much better for her and her spirits have finally survived the experience and she now says that she should have had it done a long time ago, but she was trying to save a leg that eventually caused a lot of problems and had to go in the end. Her outlook is very positive at the present time as she is coming to grips with the whole situation finally. She was in the hospital for a few days, but has since been transferred back to the same rehab home that she was in before the surgery as she likes it there. But we all know that she would rather be at home here wth me instead. It will be a while before that can happen. I have spent as much time down there with her as I can between work, taking care of the house and all that is involved there, taking care of the dog, etc., etc., etc!!! But taking care of her needs as well. There just isn't enough time left in the day anymore. And to top it all off, our web-tv was off line for almost three weeks and I have just been able to get the problem solved and get on line again just now. I will keep you all posted later as events evolve. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Dawn and Mickey, Probably like so many others here in the forum, I've been following the updates, but until now, haven't taken the time to say much about Mickey's valiant effort to regain her health, in spite of the problems with her leg. I, too, prayed for a better outcome. In spite of the fact that things have not turned out just the way you might have wished, Mickey now has a chance to fully regain her health since the problematic leg has been dealt with. As her health returns, it is my hope that the new vigor that comes with returned health will allow you to recognize that things have worked out for the best, considering the hand you were dealt. Wishing you all the best as you embark on yet another life experience. Keep us posted.

Late breaking news--- Mickey has had the remaining staples removed after her surgery on her leg. Everything looks good and is healing fine but she needs 2 more weeks of healing before they can start the shinking process on her stump. Then, supposely, they will be able to begin fitting her with her new leg. She is in good spirits and says that she wishes that she had done this sooner. She is very dertermined that she will learn to walk and use her new leg. She wants to come home very badly but knows that that is not possible at this time. Meanwhile, Fez, the "Wonder Dog" and I are holding down the "Fort" and taking care of everything here, working 3 days a week, and spending a lot of time with Mickey at the rehab home and taking care of her wants and needs. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Hi guys and gals:-) Good news. Mickey couldn't make it home for Thanksgiving, but she is home now. Yippee!!! She has personnel coming to our house to take care of her for a short while and has received her permanent leg and is learning to use it. As a matter of fact, she is quite far ahead of where she should be in her recovery as mentioned by all doctors and others taking care of her. It is still going to take more time until she can get off of the walker and be sturdy enough to travel and balance on her own. Very much like learning to wear high heels confidentl,y for the first time, eh! Cheers--- Dawn HH

Hello one and all:-) Well---We just got our electric back. Its been 10 days since a very heavy snow storm dumped 2.5 feet of the wetest snow on us and then it drifted also. We had no electric, heat, phone, TV, internet, etc, ec, etc. We did have water, but only cold. So we are getting back into order on everything, getting dug out, and finally back to work. We are O.K. and just wanted to let everyone know just why I haven't been posting lately. Now to start catching up again. Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey 68

Welcome back, Dawn. 10 Days without electricity. That must have been one Wing Ding storm. Lots of snow and cold temps. What did you do....go to a shelter? (With your bad legs, I hope you didn't try to shovel yourself out)

Bubba136:-) A neighbor across the street had electric and he and I ran an electric cord over to our place and he loaned us an electric heater. Some trees came down and put quite a few of the homes in our area out of power. Other neighbors were supplying other neighbors with power too. Mickey, Fez the "Wonder Dog", and myself camped in our bedroom all of that time snug as a couple of bugs in a rug. The next door neighbor lady had a gas range so she could cook meals and brought us a hot meal twice a day. The next door neighbor and two neighbors across the street took turns and shoveled out our driveway over a period of a few days after shoveling themselves out. We had a lamp and we did a lot of reading during that time. Since our phones were also out, several differet neigbors came over at various times to make sure that we were all rght and comfortable and we were. Guess what? Its snowing again. When I crossed the street I slipped on the ice and fell across the curbstone. My top half was on the sidewalk and my bottom half on the street. I caught the sidewalk with my hands on the way down so I didn't hit my head, but bruised my right knee and badly bruised my left rib cage as the curb caught them. It knocked the wind out of me and an ambulance was called to take me to the emergency room at the hospital. As it turns out I'm badly bruised but I didn't break anything this time. I took a licking and I'm still ticking and I go back to work on Wednesday, 2days from now. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Dawn, Glad you and Mickey are ok, but be careful heading out. That ice will sneak up you fast. Sounds like you had some great neighbors there. I wish we had more like that down here. Scotty
