Well, yes, I did wonder.  I grew up listening to it on Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart's Junior Choice, so I have a soft spot.  But I needed something topical and I thought that if casual use of the N-word could get that nice Mr Clarkson into so much trouble, maybe it would justify me slipping the song in here.  Perhaps I should have chosen the one that buskers assault our streets with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5E_zXbmrlM  or a bit of Rolf Harris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwtnBm8glPE

Anyway, how nice to have you back.  Have you been somewhere nice?

It's very nice to see you too Megan :-)

I was in Vancouver, Helsinki, Stockholm and London.

Eeww, nasty.  Somehow it puts me in mind of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxa8vUsuDPM  One can only be impressed by the vision of whoever saw that you could make a successful disco record about an unsavoury charlatan with such powers of survival that poison didn't kill him, nor a severe beating with clubs, so they had to shoot him and dump him in a frozen river.  Given that success, I might write to Lloyd-Webber (the cello variety) and suggest a collaboration on the musical, Clarkson.  With a bit of plagiarism (subtly hidden) I feel sure I could manage the lyrics. Lots of the songs from Evita would bear reworking.  Actually, I've come up with a better name for the musical.  Jeremito.  He holds the same place in the nation's affections as Eva Peron did in Argentina.  And he's been to Argentina.  Oh, I can see this as a goer, but I'd need a musician on board.  Who better than Julian Lloyd-Webber?  He must be itching to steal his brother's thunder.

Talking of plagiarism, listing cities you're in danger of writing your own dreadful song, but it's been done.  I recently met the chap responsible in part for this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avvh5H-EPWU  I gave him a finger-wagging he won't forget in a hurry

Oh Megan My plugin has crashed so I'm unable to watch the vids you posted. :-( .What that means exactly I have no idea aside from the fact that I've probably been delivered from something potentially very gaudy and crass.

You know very well that pop isn't really my cup of tea so here's a brief sort of classically oriented interlude for you while my plugin scrapes itself up and dusts itself down:

Hmm, yes.  In the same spirit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVf5Cr4M-F8  I suppose wanting to make a point is of its nature self-indulgent.

Mum has trouble with her hearing aids too, though they've never entirely crashed.

Yes, I do know your feelings about pop music, but most classical music doesn't suffer from the same lack of quality control.  Is there a classical equivalent of Agadoo? Well, Pachelbel's Canon in D Major comes close https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlprozGcs80  I think it's loathsome, but that's personal choice.  Every next note is grimly inevitable.

There's a brass band who hold the record for how fast they could play The William Tell Overture, I suppose because, music being the food of love, speed is everything.

I do like brass band music, though.  There's a bandstand just over from Mum's and on a Sunday afternoon in August you can sit under the trees and hear them play Sussex By the Sea http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=sussex+by+the+sea&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=D50387EBE75AC21D0F38D50387EBE75AC21D0F38  It's a glorious way to spend a summer afternoon.  There's a cafe too, so you can buy a cup of tea.  It's not a bad world, is it, where people will play for free to make my Sunday good.  There's a Joni Mitchell song http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=joni+mitchell+for+free&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=E03D8BEEF548B9736BA4E03D8BEEF548B9736BA4  There's a bit in a Pogues' song where the brass band gets the hairs on the back of my neck up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZqN1glz4JY

Oh, indeed there is.  I had the misfortune to hear this today and thought I'd share it with you all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3g_P3clEf8  in the spirit of 'Misery loves Company'. (I daresay there's a country song in there if anyone would care to write it.  Actually, I was talking to my daughter a last month about The Smiths and she said, 'Morrissey's got cancer.'  She's just come up with The Smiths' next single!  You'd have to get the right level of triteness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZYCKNYxmrY , but that's another begging to be written.)  It was a dark cloud on an otherwise rainy day.

Watching Vanity Fair tonight.  I'd forgotten that we had William Makepeace-Thackery to thank for this sentiment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cdFuMgMkBM  Again the purple words on Google.  Am I repeating myself?  Maybe I've got my second degree - a degree of Alzheimers.  In the 1980s there was a 'cop show' on the television called Dempsey and Makepeace, http://www.bing.com/search?q=dempsey+and+makepeace&qs=AS&pq=dempsey+and+&sc=8-12&sp=1&cvid=f81b73eb3e664aebb595d66de6ead823&FORM=QBLH&ghc=1 which Mum always called Makepeace and Thackery.  It made me laugh.
