Leggings...what to wear with it?

Today before work I popped into a store to have a look at what heels they have, saw a nice pair of nude pumps.

On my way out I saw some very sexy leggings. http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/berlin-trim-legging/

This made me wonder, we on this forum and many others have already pushed past the boundrys of the norm. Would it be viable for a man to wear leggings with heels?

Anycase,I bought one, fits very nicely. And this makes me need some advice, what would be suitable to wear with it,top wise.I know what heels to wear, nude heels or wedge booties, but what tops?Leather jacket with a shirt?or something like in the next link http://www.jayjays.com.au/girls/longsleeve/246026 with some sort of jacket?Ive always just bought male clothing so have no idea what to do with such an outfit :irked:

Absolutely no doubt those leggings and shoes go well together. As for what top to wear when out heeling, that is a bit more difficult given you usually wear guys clothing. You could try a women's long sleeve tunic top _Witchery have several. Will still have strong femme look though.

I like you usually dress male , but recently purchased some leggings by Voodoo which look a lot like ultra skinny jeans and have teamed with guys black sweater and winter jacket + 5" black patent pumps. Also how about a pair of really tight skinny women's jeans?

Thanks,Ill have a look at some long sleeve tunics.I have a pair of tight jeans that Ill wear, but Im thinking of wearing these leggings, around home for now and when I have enough courage out in public. I saw some nice sweaters and jackets.Might go and have a second look.

I have recently worn leggings with a micro skirt, short sleeved tight knit top and thigh boots. The skirt was short enough to require leggings. If skirts aren’t your thing, almost any long top will work with leggings; anything that is long enough to cover your tail. I've also worn then when I was out on my bicycle and matched them with a shorter top for a biker/dancer look.

I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.

Go with an oversized top that drapes to about crotch length. It can be a tee or sweater. With black leggings it can be pretty much any color you choose. You may want to include a color that either matches or compliments the color of the shoes. It doesn't have to be a solid color but should include a color close to the color(s) of the shoes. The exception would be if the shoes are a neutral color (black, white, brown, gray etc). In that case the top can be any color.

Of course it would be viable if done correctly and tastefully. The only boundaries are any that exist in your own mind. As someone who wears skirts on occasion, I try not to let anything hold me back when it comes to freestyling. As for what to wear with leggings, I wholeheartedly agree with Shafted and Thighbootguy that a long top/shirt/sweater/tunic that falls below your rear end would work well, and if you pair it with a nice, wide belt, the style quotient would increase considerably. The key thing is to experiment with different looks to see what would appeal to you and would look best on you. Good luck!

I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!

StormClaw, When enough women started wearing pants it became an expected part of the scenery. When designers saw a new opportunity to make money it became viable from that point forward. If you are already wearing heels, while presenting as a man, I don't think the wearing of leggings will stop your progress. The suggestions put forth are great. I bought a sweater dress that would work well with leggings. Then leggings lead to marvelous skyhigh pumps on your feet. happyinheels

I wore a pair of skintight denim leggings aka jeggings which I wore out shopping a few weeks back. They are so tight they are almost like tights. Anyway, I teamed them with a shortish, but tight fitting shocking pink long sleeved top which finished just below the waist line but above my bum, and a pair of flat ankle boots. I thought stilettoes would be just too much lol Anyway, I went in quite a few shops and had great attention and quite a few compliments from the ladies. They sure do like to see a man's bum lol There were times when I was quite nervous in case I got hassled by a meat head but I was ok, even to the point I got the train home wearing the jeggings.

It's my opinion, no more, no less

I have leggings just like you recently got , I have them in an ankle length and a capri length which goes to just below my knee. I like the shiny look very much because they look like fauxe leather. In the winter time I wear the longer length with a tall man's sweater I got on sale from JC Penny's. It just goes long enough to cover the rear. When I wear the shorter capri length in the summer I purchased three rayon camp shirts from from KingSize.Com in a tall size which is 36" long from the collar. These shirts cover what needs to be covered for men. I got a white, red and yellow which all go with black. I pair those combos with black patent leather pumps or sandals in the summer. In winter I wear them with black knee boots or ankle boots. I just recently got a pair of capri length shinny leggings in gold and paired it with a black tall rayon camp shirt and my new Naturalizer (Lorey) wedge heel sandals in black which made a striking combo !! bluejay

Taking all the tips and info from you guys I had a look through the day on the website from the shop where I got the leggings. I kind of get that the leggins are a very casual look, with the tunics, sweaters etc. Great for me lol

So I had a look, saw a few sweater tops/hoodies that looks nice.Either one of these four:

1 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/jasper-fleece-6/

2 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/beta-fleece-2/

3 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/amy-hoodie-7/

4 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/amy-hoodie-2/

With one of these two underneath for the cover issue.Good length, well it will be if I get my size lol.

5 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/ever-after-tank-1/

6 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/chelsea-ls-tunic-top/

Or something like this?

7 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/detroit-raglan-tee-1/

8 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/spliced-luxe-top/

These are nice lengths but look too feminine I think, perhaps with a jacket theyll look better.

9 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/chelsea-ls-tunic-top-5/

10 http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/product/chelsea-ls-tunic-top-3/

Numberd them for better feedback :irked:

simple way to see what goes is to watch the women in leggings and see what looks good, what doesn't. I wear flat ankle boots or heels, sandal or boot, long tops, either cami, tunic or jumper/ cardigan style. The usual comments are favourable, and don't draw undue attention when out and about.

I would have to agree with Lorriette. When it comes to style, women have us beat and we should learn from them. If you see something you like that they are wearing, give it a try and if it works go with it.

I sometimes wear leggings at home with my heels and I think they look and feel great, but I've not worn them out and about. I totally agree with what most others have said about going for a long-line top, not so much to hide what's behind but to hide the bump in the front.

From your shopping list my favourite would be the #4 layered over #5 (or #6 if it's cold and you want the extra sleeve underneath). I'm not so keen on #7 (no front-bump coverage) or #8 (looks very wide and top-heavy with the leggings). The #9 and #10 look great and I agree, a black jacket (not too long, not to casual, not too smart - perhaps your black leather jacket?) could make a stylish combination.

I also totally relate to what lorriette said: "simple way to see what goes is to watch the women in leggings and see what looks good, what doesn't." - seeing a look I like and being inspired that I might be able to make it work for me is a buzz.

If you like it, wear it.

That my friend is precisely what I want to hide  My bum showing, not such a problem, but the bump at the front,oh yea that'll be a problem.

I took your tip to mind and as I walked around uni on my way to class and back, I took notice of those wearing leggings. Some stylish girls aroung uni thats for sure. Most of them wore either a long tunic, knitted top that drops to the legs or a tunic top with a jacket.

After I class I went to the mall into the shop, one from the site in my previous posts, just to look around. The manager greeted me,girl my age.And I decided what the hell,Ill ask her a few tips on what to wear.Very open minded, friendly and supportive. Some people just want the sale. Not her,she even recommended other stores to try.

Like you all, she recommended something long like #5,#9,#10.Open or under sweater tops etc.Unfortunately I didnt find anything. The things I tried had very small sleeves.Couldnt get my arms through, damn the gym.So Im thinking of sleevless under a sweater top or something with bigger sleeves. She was very helpfull anyway, might go and show her what I did with her tips when I get something from the bigger branch :irked:

Leggings are definitely great with a long top. I have attached a few looks I like. I have never worn leather-like leggings out, but I have worn tight jeans leggings out to Nordstrom. I was wearing a pair of brown high heeled boots over them. Instead of tunic I wore a cardigan over the leggings. I definitely recommend having the top cover your back side unless you are very trim. I bought a new pair of nice jeans leggings from Michael Kors a few weeks ago. Looks amazing with peep toe booties, but haven't had the courage to wear that look out yet !

I like the second one the best. The darker color of the top provides a better contrast.

I agree, the dark top with the lighter band of colour around the hips re-balances the male proportions and make the whole outfit look more natural. I don't think I'd try the look right now as it's summer here (supposedly) but it's a great casual winter look. Probably a good idea to try it out with those flat boots first before thinking about heels.

If you like it, wear it.

There are so many choices for women and not enough for men. I love wearing leggings too. I bought some from Newport News - on line . They hav ethe scrunch style that gather a little at the ankles. Look great with all style pumps and ankle boots.

You have chosen many nice tops - just pick one and go for it. Share a few pictures when you buy one.

Have fun,

Bernheels

I agree with what some others have said. You should go for what looks good on you and what you are comfortable in and don't go too over the top such that you just end up looking silly. Anyway, good for you for really pushing the freestyle look, it sounds like you are going to really enjoy venturing out as such. My outfits tend to be gender neutral overall but still lean toward a men's look, especially from the waist up. If I had a really nice slender build and less masculine looking face, I would probably definitely consider much more feminine / freestyle outfits including women's tops, skirts, etc. But I just feel I couldn't pull off that look at all, so why bother.

@ Bernheels and hhboots:In those photos are the top that I bought, the second photo is the whole outfit I have chosen to venture out in. I dont have a slim build either so I decided to go with a puffy sweater top. I do like the top that I bought.Wore it today just over my jeans, pulled it to about thigh high, under a top.Might go and get another one, black or white.
