jdmonto
Hello I have never bought shoes online, since i don't live in the US, and while i have a service that carries packages to my country cheaply, returning shoes (if size is wrong) would be more expensive than buying another pair. I have however bought some shoes of brands that are sold online, so if i know my size on a certain brand, can i order that same size in another style of the same brand? I'm sure there would be some variation (for extremely pointed shoes for example), but as a general rule, are sizes of the same brand standard? RonC
Unfortunately not. For example, I have purchased Nine West and Bandolino shoes in size 12 and could barely get my foot into one pair and the other would be falling off my foot. There is really no way to know from one style to the next, even if the same brand of shoe.
jdmonto
Shame, i was afraid of that answer, luckyly i have not seen a style i like yet online, and i guess i better not look now Thank you for the info
SF
My experience has shown that the shoe sizing standard is to not have one. Like RonC said, and I concur, sizes vary - a lot. That's why I hate to mail order, but sometimes that is your only option.... sf "Why should girls have all the fun!!"
hhboots
While I love the near infinite selection, convenience, and privacy of buying online, there is indeed a risk because as others mentioned size varations from brand to brand are totally inconsistent. I have even seen international size conversion charts posted by vendors online that totally contradict each other. So yes, buy with caution. I typically see more consistency when you nail down a particular brand that you like. I think the variance for a single brand's fit can occur when you compare a boot to a shoe or round toe to pointed toe box, etc. Synthetic leathers, suede, and some other materials tend to have some stretch and are a bit more forgiving, while real leather is not too forgiving. I still favor online buying (3/4 of my collection was bought online), as I am well aware of the variations I mentioned earlier and adjust as needed, I have pretty good luck with only maybe a couple of misfires occuring so far. Anyway, good luck...
docs41
I agree with the others--there seems to be no "standard" in sizing between shoe companies. I've even noticed differences among the same brand depending upon country of origin. Maddens, for instance, seem to run larger if they were made in Mexico, and smaller if made in China. I've also had issues with some of the high end brands such as Kors and La Canadienne. They seem to run very narrow, and I do not have a wide foot. good luck.... If the shoe fits-buy it!!!!!! Dr. Shoe
Often within a brand if two different styles have the same overal shape and heel height they will fit the same because they will probably have been made on the same last. As you all are probably aware, very few "brands" actually make their own shoes, especially when they are part of a clothing range. Even firms like Pleaser and Ellie have their stuff made for them in China or India. Sometimes they are exclusive designs from their own in-house design department or they are "factory designs" just re-labelled. If they are the same shape they will have come from the same factory... jay jay
Hi there yes I have encountered the same problem. I take a UK 8 and if you get shoes that is made in China they are one size to small so I have to get them in one size bigger. Iron Fist especially, I got two pairs for my wife in a 41 but they are very tight over the front of the foot. I bought myself a pair of Pleasers Indulge 543 here at a shop at the Monte Casino, called NY Junction and had to go to a size 12 US. We wear the same size shoe and she tries them on for me . It's nothing to do with the country the shoes are made in. Some shoes run too small, some too large and some just right. Does anyone really know what size they truly are? When was the last time you had your feet measured by a professional? Shoes may be made to a certain size chart and then converted to another. Men's and women's sizes are often different too. An EU 41 is a UK men's 7 but a UK women's 8. In USA size an EU 41 is a Men's 8 and Women's 10. There's so much scope for flexibility and mistakes in conversions. At the bottom of shoe shop size charts it usually says. *These conversions are only a guide as manufacturers and brands may vary. I have shoes that range from EU 39 to EU 43. All fit me perfectly and are worn with different combinations from thick socks to whisper thin stockings. I can wear some of my shoes with thin tights or stockings, but the same shoes are agony when worn bare footed or with thicker socks.

All shoes are SUPPOSED to conform to 2 sizing systems. In Asia it is China Standard Size system - and in The West, it is the International Mondopoint system of sizing and manufacture. However in reality, they do not adhere accurately and so sizes vary. Shoe sizes differ between the UK, the US & Canada, Europe and China - so I am sure that it would be useful for you to have an accurate international Size Conversion Chart to refer to. Look here, and click on 'Adults': http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html This is by far the most reliable conversion chart I have found and I use it all the time. Shoe sizes DO vary from brand to brand - however in general - different brands in one Country should only differ by about 1/8th inch in either width or length.
