  1. This morning I had to go the bank again and I stood in the line waiting for the bank to open (again). I was wearing slacks, a dress white shirt and my black leather pull-on thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels. There were three other people in line. The last guy said, “I really like your boots”. “Thanks” “A couple of hundred”? “Nah, about $60 on the web”. An older lady at the front of the line said,”I’ve never seen boots like those for a guy”. The last guy said, “There’s stranger things than that out there”. Two more people joined the line and noticed my boots but didn’t say anything. About then the manager opened the door. He noticed too but didn’t say anything. I got a different teller than my last two times at the bank. She saw my boots as I walked up to the counter. She didn’t mention them but asked me if I had had a good weekend and was very pleasant during the transaction. Maybe I do fit right in. At my morning grocery stop, the gal in produce (who had spoken to me before) gave me a big smile and bid me good morning. From this mornings discussion I learned that the bananas on the outside of the bunch are riper than the ones on the inside. heelsRus – Your absolutely right, it’s a mind game. You have to try going out again. Most people really don’t care what you have on your feet. JeffB- A black turtle neck sounds good as soon as it cools off a little more.

  2. Today has been a weed digging day. I worked in the yard in my flat-heeled thigh boots. Later I went to a pet food store and wore my black leather pull-on thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels. I have been there several times before and no one even batted an eye. Then I went to a new grocery store still wearing my 4” heels. The register clerk said, “I’ve never seen anyone wearing those before” which I took as not negative but not a ringing endorsement.

On the way out of the grocery, an older lady gave me a sour look that would have curdled milk. That I took as disapproval but you can’t please everyone.

Friday I went to the local Goodwill (thrift shop) and found these on the pants rack.

    Posted Image

The price was $6 but it was a 50% off clothing sale so I bought them for $3. The fit is tight but with no unseemly bulges. There is no waistband or pockets and the split at the ankle will show off any heel I have on. I haven’t figured out how I’m going to wear them, but I think the granny boots will work well.

This is a cool weather garment so I have some time to figure it out. I did try them under my black leather thigh boots with 5” stilettos and they looked good but it didn’t show off the slit on the ankle (since it was inside the boots).

When I wear my black boots with jeans, there is a minimal color contrast between the blue and black and the jeans terminate with a waste band and belt. The eye is attracted to contrast so dark blue and black dont attract as much attention as say my white boots might. These pants with the black boots have a great color contrast and the color of the pants is a lot closer to my flesh color then the blue jeans. It really is a daring look. Any suggestions (positive or negative) are welcome.

    Thanks for the kind words.

Try not to confuse “adventurous spirit” with doing something stupid and lack of good sense. I have been known to go off the deep end and it’s nice to have a community that is willing to help pull me back.

  3. This morning I went to downtown Covington city building to pay city taxes. I went in wearing blue jeans, a long sleeved dress shirt, and black leather pull-on thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels. I had parked across the street and about a block away from the city building and didn’t attract too much attention walking to the building. I don’t think the clerk even noticed what I was wearing. I walked back to my car again without too much attention.

I also had to go to the bank again today ( see yesterdays adventure in granny boots). This time I decided to wear my thigh boots to the bank.

I waited in line for the bank to open then waited in the lobby for a teller. I got the same teller I had yesterday. When I was done I asked her, “Are these too much for downtown Covington”? I stepped back from the counter.

“I can’t see”. I stepped further back and turned my foot to show the heel.

“Nah, there fine. You’ll fit right in”.

This was not the response I was expecting. I may have to go to Covington more often.

I had to go to another bank to make a deposit for a friend. Again I waited in line in the lobby. All the tellers saw me and no one even batted an eye. Maybe I will fit right in.

I did feel more comfortable wearing my thigh boots than my granny boots under my slacks. I’ve just never enjoyed the game of wearing boots or heels and trying to hide them.

On my way to work, I did my morning grocery shopping. When I walked in, one of the female stock clerks, who I had seen before, glanced at my boots and bid me a cheery good morning and the register clerk was all smiles.

What a great way to start a day.

    Bubba136 –

Ouch. But thanks for the honest comments.

    Dr..Shoe -

I may have given the wrong description of those leather shorts. Let me have another go at it. They are black smooth cow leather and have a 5” inseam. The shorts are tight around my thigh but there is plenty of room to put my hands in the pockets and carry a wallet. There aren’t any unseemly bumps or bulges showing. They aren’t “very tight” shorts and they definitely are not hot-pants.

I have another pair of suede shorts that are very loose to the extent of almost being baggy that I have worn with thigh boots. They have at least a 7” inseam and come all the way down to the top of my thigh boots. When I wore them I again may have pushed things too far ( see White Boots).

Thanks everyone for the feedback. It really helps.

Added note: Guy is not my lifestyle. I have no problem with that community, but I am not a member.

  4. Yesterday I had to go to the bank before I went to work. The bank branch is in downtown Covington. I got there at 8:30 thinking the drive in window would be open but the bank had changed its hours to open at 9:00. That left me with half an hour to kill. I decided to just walk around town a bit. Downtown Covington is almost deserted by businesses and I thought wearing my thigh boots with heels would be too much for the denizens of a deserted downtown to accept so I put on my granny boots Posted Image

and wore them under my slacks. The pointed toe and full heel were clearly visible, and the new heel tips felt great.

I walked for several blocks and only got a couple of looks. When I got back to the bank there was a group of people just going in (heaven forbid that the bank should be open when the customers wanted it). I got into the “wait for the next free teller queue” in the middle of the lobby.

I overheard an older guy (upper 70s) telling one of the tellers, “I saw a guy with a ponytail wearing high heels”. I don’t know if it was the ponytail or the heels that he was concerned about but as luck would have it I was next in the queue when he left so I got the same teller (female, early 30s).

After I finished my business I said, “I think I’m the guy he was worried about”.

“But your not wearing high heels”.

“Oh yeah, I am”, and I stepped back from the counter and went out the door. She had a very perplexed look on her face.

I nodded to her as I walked passed the drive in window but she was too busy to notice.

I have worn my granny boots in other branches of the same bank without being noticed or commented upon but I thought this trip was worth sharing.

  5. Heelme -

    DawnHH –

Again thanks for the kind words. The 5” inseam does not qualify as hot pants. The shorts come to just above mid thigh. As to the skirt, read all about it, and it continues here.

I have often worn denim shorts with an 1” inseam with normal shoes and I didn't get much reaction.

I think your right on about thigh boots worn over jeans being more acceptable than being worn with shorts or a skirt.

The cobbler didn’t offer a choice of heel tip materials. He measured the diameter of the hole and used a tip that fit snuggly.

I had a different cobbler shorten the heels of my chap boots and I think he put the same heel tips back on. The problem was the tip shaft was loose in the heel hole. I wound up putting a drop of glue on the tip shaft to keep the tips in place.

    Dr.Shoe –

Thanks. I was afraid it was something like that. I’ll stay away from the leather in the future. To my eye it really didn’t look too extreme but as I said, I’m not a very good fashion linguist.

  6. Today I went grocery shopping before work and again after work. I was wearing a long sleeved white shirt, black leather shorts with a 5” inseam (smooth cow leather, not suede) , and a pair of black pull-on leather thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels. These boots do not have a tight shaft and tend to slide down my leg to about over the knee length or lower. The shorts are tight enough on my legs that there is little air circulation, which is why I haven’t worn them this summer. This is definitely a cool weather garment. I didn’t get real positive feedback. In the morning, I told the register clerk, who I have seen many times, “I really value your feedback” and got a smile that I read as “Yeah, right”. She didn’t say anything, but I got the impression that she didn’t appreciate my outfit. I also think I heard a wolf-whistle as I was walking across the parking lot. During evening shopping most people just ignored me. The lady at the dele counter seemed more uneasy waiting on me than I expected. The register clerk, who I have also seen before, was having a conversation about local schools with the customer in front of me and didn’t give me any more attention than she had to. As I was bagging my groceries, I joined the conversation. They both seemed to relax a little as we talked for a minute. I am not a very good fashion linguist, but the leather shorts may be saying something I didn’t understand or intend. I have done the same things in the same store (with the same boots) while wearing jeans or slacks and didn’t get the feedback I did today. I think I will give the outfit another try because I enjoy the feel of the air on my legs between the hem of the shorts and the top of the boots. I think the look will be improved if I wear my taller, tighter boots with 5” heels that stay up on my leg. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  7. JeffB-

    Shafted-

I know exactly what you are talking about. Even my thigh boots get little reaction. However, I will still caution against becoming complacent. Carefully pick where you go heeling.

My observations of people put folks into several categories:

People too wrapped up in their own affairs to notice the obvious (JeffBs observation)

People that notice and don’t care

People that notice and wish they hadn’t

    Giggly girls and insulting guys

I have mentioned in other posts, high heels are an attention getting device. Women understand that and that’s why they wear them. Us guys are just catching on and were here lamenting that it doesn’t work as well for us.

The next question is what kind of reaction are women trying to get by wearing high heels? Is that the same reaction us guys want when we wear heels? I don’t have an answer to either question and would welcome some discussion. The caution is, “Be careful of what you ask for”.

But after all the analysis, going out in heels is still fun.

  8. I went to the cobbler to pick up my white thigh boots. I had new heel tips and toe plates installed. I wore my black pull on thigh boots 3” stiletto heels. He didn’t bat an eye and the other customer in the shop was leaving and didn’t notice my heels.

When the pulled my white boots off the shelf he asked, “ Wasn’t I supposed to put toe plates on these”?

    “Yeah you were”.

“I can put them on now if you have a minute”.

“Have you got time to do these also”, and indicated the boots I was wearing?

    “Sure”.

I took my black boots off and gave them to him.

“This one needs a heel tip to, should I put them on”?

He started to work on my black boots and removed a stubborn heel tip.

“The heel tips of the white pair came off just by pulling them with my hand”.

“ They were from the factory”.

We went on talking about heel tips. I told him that I knew I needed to have the tips replaced when the heel kicked out on the waxed floor at the grocery and that the tips he put on the pair I picked up yesterday really made a difference. He commented about the tip just being rubber and not lasting too long since all the weight is on that small point.

As he gave me my black boots, I pulled them back on. We got to talking about how few cobbler shops were in the area. He said he receives work from southern Indiana, and Louisville Kentucky (both are a two-hour drive). We went on to talk about the machinery he had in the shop (from 1890) and the history of his shop.

Never once did he mention or question my wearing thigh boots with heels.

This guy has a new client.

    Micha –

You’re right. Having a heel kick out can be embarrassing. The first time it happened to me was several years ago at an art museum in Cleveland Ohio. I wasn’t too confident in heels at the time and took a real miss step on a slick marble floor. I kept going but I was a little red faced and more self aware of my boots and heels. I have noticed that if I project an embarrassed image, people are more apt to take advantage of my embarrassment with their looks and comments.

Lesson – Learn to walk in heels with confidence and keep the shoes/boots in good repair.

  9. Although “Chick Magnet” is not my style, I do find that more females comment about my boots than males. I only remember two males starting a conversation but then. This forum excluded, wearing heels, and the problems wearing heels, are things more women are familiar with than men are. I do not count shouted insults from moving cars as “conversations”. These comments have always been from men. Women are also generally more interested in the style of shoes than men are so wearing an “interesting” style can be a real attention getter. High heels are an attention getting device. Guess what... it works.

  10. shoeman85

Welcome to the forum. There are lots of folks here who share their experiences and views on shoes, heels, and boots. Like DawnHH, I hope you will post with us for a while.

Would you tell us a little about what heels you have worn (or would like to wear)? What is your definition of “sexy shoes”? Are you strictly an indoor wearer or have you tried going out? Do you wear shoes or boots?

  11. DawnHH-

Not really. When I said, "There is only one way to find out, and my guitar skills are way to rusty for busking.", I should have added, "so maybe Forborkenvv will give it a try and let us know".

A local radio station periodically dreams up outrageous events then creates them either as radio drama (April Fools day Parade) or sometimes even as real events (Memorial Day fireworks). The station gives credit for these events to their “Committee for Esthetic Public Spectacle”. I think busking in thigh boots sounds like their work. ;)

  12. I was able to get to the cobbler before closing time and I picked up my black thigh boots with 4” heels (8890) and my granny boots both with new heel tips. While I was there I dropped off my white thigh boots for heel tips and top taps. The guy didn’t seem put off or surprised about me bringing in size 14 boots and saying that when I wear them I wear a hole in the toe. I was just another customer and we even shared a comment or two about a news program he was watching. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to change into my white boots before I went in and I had to carry them in. I will wear the black pair when I pick the white ones up.

What a pleasure new heel tips are to walk on. My 8890s really needed having the tips replaced. After I picked them up I wore them shopping. I went to a pet supplies store (for the second time) and the clerk remembered me and was much less put off about waiting on me. Seems like showing up twice says, “this is really how I dress and the first time wasn’t a fluke”.

I have mentioned that I tightened the shaft on these boots. They now feel great and stay up at their full length, which makes them, look great.

    DawnHH –

I hadn’t thought that busking in thigh boots might not be noticed. I was thinking just the opposite, that it might be more of an attention getter and generate more income, but you may be right. There is only one way to find out, and my guitar skills are way to rusty for busking.

    ;)

  13. Long Leather Boot Boy -

I really enjoyed reading your story. I haven’t found the fascination for PVC boots, but then I haven’t tried them too much. I’ve always found the leather boots more comfortable. I also appreciate how comfortable a leather skirt is.

How about adding a couple of pictures of your thigh boots?

  14. It’s Friday so it’s jeans day. I did my morning shopping wearing a blue denim shirt and jeans with my white thigh boots with 5” stiletto heels (like Micha has shown us). Walking in I got a sour look from an older guy who was leaving the store. Other than that there was very little reaction at all. The register clerk saw me coming and gave me a nice smile. I said, “I haven’t worn these for a while”, and again got a nice smile. I said, “Oh by the way, my complements to the cleaning crew, the floors here made me realize I needed heel tips”. She said that the crew they were using really did a good job. The reason I noticed that I needed heel tips was my heel kicked out three times while I was walking around. I hope to get to the cobbler shop today to get my black boots and granny boots that are getting new tips. If I get there before closing time, I’ll just trade him my white pair for the black pair and let him work on them. Forborkenvv- If busking in heels works out, try it in thigh boots, you may make a fortune.

  15. The white thigh boots would be my vote. It depends on how much contrast you want (contrast attracts atteneion). Black on light yellow would be striking and a real attention grabber. The white would be much lower contrast and not as immediately noticed (even though they are thigh boots). I have a pair of stretch jeans similar to that in off-white and they look great with my white boots.

  16. I have been wearing my 8890’s all week and the heel tips REALLY need replacing. The grocery store where I shop has a well polished floor and I have had a heel kick out sideways a couple of times. So… today I took my 8890’s and my granny boots to a local cobbler for heel tips. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to do the work while I waited so I may not have those boots for a week. (My work schedule doesn’t let me to the shop while he is opened).

I also asked him to put a tap on the toe of the 8890’s. I explained to him that when I walked in them I tended to wear a hole in the leather of the toe tip. I told him about gluing a penny on the tip of my other boots. He recommended a nylon tap that has enough thickness to protect the toe tip. He didn’t seem too bothered by there being my boots. After all I was wearing a flat heeled pair of thigh boots and this is the same shop where I wore my royal blue boots with 5” stilettos a few weeks ago.

    Kneehighs-

I have never before bin credited with aplomb.

    Thanks for the kind words.

    Fogborkenvv –

If your lace up knee boots are heeled, its only a little further to heeled thigh boots. I didn’t quite understand, did you wear these lace up boots to Victoria Station?

The idea of busking in heels is a real nervy endeavor. (Busking is being a street musician). I was not aware of the problem of having to run with your money. If that is a real problem, I don’t recommend heels. You might try a pair of flat heeled thigh boots. If personal safety is a real concern, don’t do it.

I still am careful about the places I go wearing my boots. I still fight becoming complacent about others reactions.

    DawnHH-

    Micha –

Again, thanks for the kind words.

Hero? Give me a break. I’m just a guy that like to wear thigh boots.

    JeffB –

You may have the more sensible approach to heeling but I do enjoy a little feedback. Have your new boots arrived yet?

    Shafted-

I’m already a relic. I currently spin yarns about doing data processing with punched cards. I’m not expecting my choice of footwear to become a male fashion in a time that I will still be around to look back on it.

    Dr.Shoe -

I have always been one to adopt a cause but I didn’t intentionally adopt heeling. I just like to wear boots and the heels were a secondary thing (that I now really enjoy).

    Hellme –

Welcome to the forum and what a great first post.

When I got my first pair of thigh boots with stiletto heels, I asked several cobblers about changing the heel style to a western heel and they all turned me down. After a long time of trying to hide those heels I finally decided to go ahead and wear stilettos. After I learned to walk in them, it has been fun ever since. Shafted has good advice, “Enjoy stiletto heeled thigh boots for what they are”.

Don’t worry about trying the boots on for the bootmaker, I’m sure he want to be sure the boots fit and to be proud of his work. I didn’t understand what else you wear with your boots but if it isn’t too far out for street wear go ahead and show off the craftsman’s work and wear them out of the shop. (I wear hose or trouser socks with jeans and a dress shirt).

I’m 6” without heels. References to being taller than that included the heel height.

  17. Last night was a pizza night.

I went to a new grocery wearing a long sleeved white shirt, blue jeans, and my 8890 thigh boots with 4" stiletto heels. On a range of Neiman Marcus to the Dollar store, this store is on the Dollar store end and it was not in the best neighborhood. I was wary about going in. Only the manager seemed to notice and she gave me a rather hard look. The rest of the customers either didn’t notice (and this crew might have not noticed) or chose to ignore me. The folks in the parking lot noticed but didn’t say anything.

After leaving the store I walked across the parking lot to the pizza place. I had placed a carry out order and this shop didn’t have a dining room so I just stood in front of the counter and paid for the pizza. The counter was almost chest high so no one in the store even saw my boots.

All I know is that after I tightened the shaft on the 8890’s they feel great to wear. They are cow leather and very soft.

This morning I wore them on my normal shopping trip and stopped at the corn stand. Both stops were uneventful even though there were cars stopping at the corn stand while I was there.

    -Dr.Shoe –

    Thanks for the comments.

I guess I have asked more females what they think of a guy in thigh boots and heels than I have asked males. I don’t think it because I want to be sure they have noticed, rather females generally give me the impression they want to say something more then males do. Most males appear to wish they hadn’t seen me at all, as do some females, but often females look curiously at my boots. Besides, there are more females that can relate to wearing boots and heels than there are males (present audience excluded) so they more often have something to say.

I do enjoy getting positive (or neutral) comments. People seem to be tied in their own cocoons and won’t talk to anyone (been on an elevator lately?). By asking what someone thinks, I open the door on a conversation that I think the person might want to have. Out of several hundred people that see me, I might ask one and I would not intentionally put anyone in an uncomfortable situation.

Also, it also gives me something to write about. Consider how exciting pages of, “Wore my boots today… nobody noticed” would be.

Right now my boat is floating right along, if it starts sinking I’ll let everyone know.

  18. This morning I wore my Posted Image

black leather Pleaser 8890 thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels with slacks and a long sleeved white shirt. This is the pair that I tightened the shaft by running a seam by the back of the boot. They now fit great and don’t fall down my leg and they feel great too. I really have to find a cobbler somewhere on my normal drive route because both of these boots really need heel tips.

I stopped at Biggs for some lunch time munchies. One of the clerks, that had seen me on other mornings, bid me, “Good Morning”. This was the first time he had spoken to me. The girl at the register also had a nice smile.

I did stop at the corn farmer’s stand and wound up helping he and his wife set up an awning. The three of us chatted for several minutes and they both made several glances at my boots. I was going to tell her that I was looking for them Friday when I had on a pair of 5” heels, but I didn’t. I asked when they would be there again and I will plan on wearing 5” heels then. By the way, I now know a lot about corn pollination and pest control.

    Shafted-

    DawnHH-

    Thanks for the kind words.

    Fogborkenvv-

You might give wearing thigh boots outside a try sometime. I really find it easier than wearing heels under my slacks/jeans. At least I don’t worry about somebody seeing what I’m wearing. Not trying to hide something reduces a lot of the stress that can be generated in a male wearing heels.

    Bubba136-

Maybe I am boasting a little and part of wearing thigh boots with stiletto heels might be a little bit of “look at me”. I suspect most heel wearers (male and female) also suffer the same problem. One of the things about stiletto heels is that they are attractive, which means they attract attention.

I hadn’t thought about that before.

I have never had a concern about wearing thigh boots with flat heels but when I started wearing stiletto heels I did have concerns about the reaction I would get. It took some doing to get out of the car the first (second and third) time. After mastering walking in heels and not getting too many bad reactions, I confidence going out and about and, yes, I do enjoy the attention.

  19. While we were down, I put together a couple of posts.

    ===========================================================================

Friday after work, I pulled by blue boots on again and started home. I really do like the look of the blue boots, blue jeans and the blue long sleeved shirt.

I went to Walgreen’s for some items. I have my boots cuffed down to below the knee length while I was driving and wore them into the store that way. I got a couple of looks but no one said anything. I had to ask several clerks for one item, but they treated me as any other customer. As I was checking out,

The register clerk (young female) said, ”You look like your having a good day”.

“I really am... how could you tell”?

    “You just look happy”.

I thanked her for the complement and walked on out to the car and got a couple more looks.

I went on to Sam’s not because I needed anything; it was just that I just wanted to walk around some more. I wandered the store and tried on a leather ladies jacket with a zip front that looked great but I didn’t available funds to splurge. A couple of people did look at my boots as I walked passed them and then turned to stare (friendly stare) after I went passed. I knew they had done that because, thinking they might, I turned back and gave them a nice smile and got one back.

At the checkout was run by one of my favorite clerks. She is an older lady of color who was the first person I ever asked about me wearing boots in public. Her reply was “Don't bother me none”. Anyway, I said, ”Your going to have to get a pair of these”, indicating my boots. She said, “I just might have to. I can’t wear them here but when I’m not working I like to dress up and strut my stuff”. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

    End of a great day.

    ===========================================================================

    Let me continue with Saturday.

I spent the morning working in the yard wearing jeans a blue tee shirt and my black flat-heeled thigh boots. This really is a very practical outfit for yard work. Well, it came time to get more mulch so I went to Lowes again only this time I wore my blue leather thigh boots with 5” stilettos. I waited in the long line to pay for the mulch and when I got to the register I asked the girl running it, “Are these boots were too much for a guy to wear”?

“Hey, I’m loving them. They really look good”

I thanked her for the complement and went to my car and drove into the loading area. There was only one guy working there and there was a line of cars and trucks. I got out of my car and was standing around when the guy in the truck in front of me got out and started loading his truck. He was a local police officer in full uniform. Being 5” taller than he was, I was able to reach the top of the stack more easily so I helped him load until the clerk got there. As the guy was leaving he thanked me for helping (and not a word about my boots).

As I was pulling out I saw the girl that was running the register in the parking lot on break. She recognized me and gave me a smile. I stopped and said, “You can get these on the web”.

    “Oh really, where”

    “Howcool.com”

“Howcool.com, I’ll have to write that down. I’m really digging them. I could never walk in them”.

“They make several styles with a 4” heel”.

“I think I could walk in that. You walk in those very well. I really think their great”.

We bid each other a good day and I went on to Beige’s to get some soft drinks.

In the store I wandered around a bit then got my stuff and went to the checkout. I picked a long line just for fun.

When I got to the register, I was going to ask the clerk about my boots but I asked the lady behind me instead.

“These too much for a guy”?

“I don’t know... but I’d sure like to get a pair in yellow for me.”

I told her where I had gotten mine and suggested searching e-bay for “thigh boots”. She thanked me for the information and said, “They do look good”.

So far this has been a great day and I’m starting to think I should be working on a commission.

I went on to a music store for some guitar strings. It turned out the girl running the store was the grand daughter of my junior high school principal and the daughter of my 8th grade algebra teacher. I asked her about my boots and she thought they looked good.

    What a fun day.

    Bubba136-

Interesting observation. I never considered what I was doing as aggressive “in your face” activity and I certainly never felt like I trapped someone into anything. When I do solicit an opinion, I have sensed that the person might have one to offer. I’m not sure if the change in public attitude is political correctness or a more general acceptance of people that don’t fit into the “standard” mold (people that are “different” than ourselves).

I’ll keep your words in mind.

  20. This is Friday and that is a relaxed dress day at work, which means I get to wear blue jeans. I went on my grocery shopping trip this morning in jeans, a long sleeved blue dress shirt, and my royal blue leather thigh boots with 5” stiletto heels. This outfit looks nice.

In the grocery (Bigg’s) one guy did a double take but everyone else ignored me. Sometimes it bothers me when I know people have seen me and they make a conscious choice to avoid eye contact by looking either past me or looking the other way. Oh well, whatever their comfortable with. I was the only one in the checkout line and the clerk knew me from previous visits but I don’t think she thinks too much of my choice of footwear. Anyway, I asked her, “Are these blue ones going too far”?

She looked at my boots again and said, “I noticed you had a different color on today”, and gave me a nice grin. I still don’t think she approves but it was a nice smile.

My corn farmer wasn’t there this morning. I was looking forward to his wife’s comments on my 5” heels.

    A note about Pleaser/Ellie 8899 thigh boots:

These boots have an ankle zipper and the shaft above the zipper fits my leg snugly and when I wear them over jeans they are snug enough that I can pull the lining loose when I pull them on. The lining on my blue boots has started to come loose at the top where it attaches to the boot. I recommend the following procedure for getting into these boots:

    1. Roll the top of the boot down until the lining is visible.

    2. Hold the boot and the lining between your thumbs and index fingers while you put your foot in and pull the boot up your leg.

    3. Roll the boot top back up. When you are holding the lining, there isn’t any strain on the seam that attaches the lining to the boot.

By the way, you can roll the top only half way up and the boots look like knee length boots. Two styles for the price of one.

  21. I have an interesting image for everyone. Imagine an Indiana corn farmer and his wife with a flatbed truck piled with sweet corn on the side of an intersection of two Indiana State routes. Lots of traffic going by and folks stopping to buy corn. Now add a guy in a dress shirt slacks and black thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels talking to the farmer and his wife. That’s what I was into this morning. This is the farmer that will talk about corn all day (and not repeat himself). He is a really nice gent and really into corn. My boots didn’t phase him at all. His wife, however, asked me, “How do you walk in them”? “I think there quite comfortable” “Why do you wear them”? “I just like them”. “I used to wear heels before I was married, but now they would kill my feet”. “I have another pair with a 5” heel that I think are even more comfortable than these”. She just shook her head and said, “Well you have a good day”. I assured her I would. In the background her husband was still telling me about the corn I was buying. What a great start to the day.

  22. DawnHH asked for a thigh boot inventory that included a service record.

About 15 years ago I bought a pair in Dallas Texas at a closeout store with a brand of “Back to School” They have 3” stiletto heels and were bright pink. These boots have an ankle zipper and the shaft is very snug. They are very soft leather and are still one of my favorite pair. I bought them home and had them dyed black and asked the cobbler about a western heel. I have had the heel tips replaced twice at different shops and each time asked about the western heel. This was long before I was comfortable wearing stiletto heels in public.

I also bought a pair of black over the knee boots with a ¾” western heel at the same close out store. I have had new heels on them and have just about worn them out.

I bought a pair of black thigh highs with a flat heel at Bakers in Cincinnati. I wore this pair on a trip to SanFrancisco. I have worn this pair out.

Next I bought a pair of black leather Tony style U crotch high boots with a 5” stiletto heel. There were not comfortable enough to wear out the heel tip. The Tony brand runs about a size small.

My next pair were Pleasers 8890 with a 4” stiletto heel. These are cow leather pull on boots. These have had the heel tips replaced twice and need it again. I also bought a pair of Pleaser 8826 flat heel thigh boots that I have reglued the sole on twice. I use these when working in the yard so they really take a beating.

Next were Ellie 8868 black leather boots with a 4” stiletto pull on boots. These boots get a lot of wear but I’ve only replaced the heel tips once.

The Ellie royal blue leather 8899 with a 5” stiletto were next. The first time out, the heel tip came off. I have only had the tips replace once.

The Ellie black leather Chap boots with a 6” stiletto were next. I had the heel cut down to 5 ½” and have had to glue the heel tip on because the cobbler did a poor job lowering the heel.

The black and white pair of Ellie 8899 leather thigh boots with 5” stiletto heels were next. I have replaces the heel tip on the black pair once. The white pair haven’t had enough miles yet.

The 8899 are becoming my penny boots because I have glued a penny under the toe to prevent my wearing a hole in the tow tip.

My last pair were another pair of Pleaser 8826 flat heel boots (I wore these when I met DawnHH) that still look new.

My granny boots need heel tips now.

I haven’t paid a lot of attention to the material of which the heel tips are made but some seem to wear a lot longer than others do. I haven’t used the same cobbler for most of the tip replacement because I have had several of them done while I was travelling.

    Kneehighs -

Nice looking chap. The boots flair too much for me but they look comfortable. Looks like everyone else was ignoring him.

  23. Several years ago, before I started wearing stilettos in public, I tried to have the heels a pair of thigh boots with 3" stilettos converted to a western heel. I was never able to find a cobbler that would do it and I tried several. On the assumption that they knew a lot more about shoe construction than I did I never tried doing the work myself. Now I kind of glad the boots still have stiletto heels.

I like the looks of the western thigh boots that HighBoots referenced at 6 Inch Heels Forever. Looks like they will custom make the boots and the price looks reasonable but the payment method is a little tough.

  24. Yesterday was another work in the yard day so I wore my black flat heeled thigh boots, tight jeans and a tee shirt. On the pratical side, when I work in the yard wearing shoes, I find that very small critters like to take a meal on my ankles. My boots seem to frustrate them so I don't want to venture into the yard without them even is thay are a little warm.

I needed mulch so I went to Lowes. I switched into my pull on thigh boots with 4" stilettos and walked into the outdoor garden center. By his attitude, the guy there didn't think too much of my choice of footware but he grudgingly answered my questions. I walked over the the checkout (long) line and paid for the mulch. I then had to walk back out to my car and drive it into the garden center to load it. I let the guy load 9 bags for me while I stood there in my boots.

While I was out I went to the pet store for some cat litter. I got a nice smile from one of the clerks and one of the patrons out in the parking lot but other than those, everyone else ignored me.

I also stopped at a Bigg's (not the one I normally go to) and walked around looking for some stuff. I got a couple of looks, but again, I was mostly ignored.

It is good to go out feeling comfortable.

A thought just occured to me. I have on several occasions seen young folks in Biggs wearing gothic and or punk outfits. I was not wearing my boots so I was just part of the crowd . How did I react to them? If memory served, I just ignored them. Although I'm not a fan of either style, I'm starting to appreciate the need for some feedback. I may offer polite comment next time (especially if I am wearing my boots).

Thanks for the replies. If I do try the skirt again (and I might) I'll be sure to let you know.
