I haven’t seen the 8899s in brown leather. Where did you find them?

I recommend a cushioned insole for the 8899s. I also suggest a little double stick tape to keep the insole in place. I also recommend having cobbler install a toe plate (tap) to protect the leather toe tip. I don’t know if it is just the way I walk in these boots or the design of the sole meeting the leather top but I tend to wear a hole in the tip of the boot. The toe tap keeps the tip from hitting the ground.

I’ve put a lot of miles on my black pair. The are almost ready to be resoled.

  2. I really had forgotten I had that pair of black leather 5 pocket jeans. I pulled them on this morning with a pair of black leather thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels and a black turtleneck. This was a lot of black so I added a pair of dime size gold disk clip on earrings.

I drove to work and stopped for gas and my morning grocery stop. The outfit hardly raised an eyebrow. The clerk at the checkout is one that isn’t enthusiastic about my mode of dress. She is polite but that’s it. Guess what her eyes went to ... the earrings.

It was a cool morning and that is kind of necessary for wearing leather pants and thigh boots. The combination can get a little warm. I had forgotten how good it felt to wear that combination.

What a great way to start the morning.

    Great looking boots.

I have posted this over and over but here it is again. Pull your boots on over your jeans and look in a full-length mirror. If you like the image you see, go on out. No one will care. If you don’t like the image then it’s not for you and try something else. This is all a head game but you have to be absolutely comfortable with the image you are presenting. If you are, people will see the confidence and go their own way. If you aren’t, people will see that too and some will take advantage of your not being comfortable. If you are comfortable with your image, there is no such thing as being caught. You will be seen, but not caught doing something you are not comfortable with.

Those new Vanity 2013 boots look a lot like a knee-high version of Ellie 8899 thigh boots. If they are I suggest a cushioned insole and a toe plate (tap) to prevent wearing a hole in the tip of the shoe leather. The really look like great boots. Please let me know how they feel.

Bluetango has good advice; a friendly smile goes a long way.

My experience with rural communities is that they might put up with a lot but they don’t accept much out of the mainstream. Your adventure of going out “with seven earrings in each ear and the towering stiletto boots, having breakfast in a farm community cafe” probably was close to the limit of what they might put up with. But, I suspect you know you community better than I do. I am just concerned about going anywhere where I might get a serious negative reaction. It sounds like all went well. Maybe Cindi’s trip wasn’t such a “harebrained scheme” after all.

Welcome to the forum. If any topic gets too far off someone usually mentions it but non-high heeled shoes doesn’t strike me that way.

I have several pair of flats and ankle boots that I wear at work. Heels just won’t fit in there. Since I wear a 14 in a heeled boot and a 13 in a flat the number of styles I have to choose from is a little restricted. I have also noticed that the size I can wear varies with the style of shoe so trying them on is important.

I really can’t wear something at work that is too feminine which further restricts my choice. Away from work I perfer my thigh boots.

  6. BootBoy09 - Sounds like you had a fun outing with your wife. JeffB says “a little confidence certainly goes a long way” and he is absolutely right. As you keep going out you will find that your confidence will grow and that a lot of confidence goes even further. Your right, most people don’t notice and if they do, they don’t care. When your confidence get up to it, try wearing the boots over your jeans. One - the style looks great, and two - you don’t have to worry about whether someone sees your boots or not. The whole paranoia about “did anyone notice” goes away. The hardest step is getting out of the car but if your comfortable with the look no one else will care.

At work, I have worn a pair of flat heeled thigh boots and a 1 ½” block heeled knee boot under my slacks but that was because it was cold. I often wear non-descript flats or low heel ankle boots at my desk. The data center is a 7x24 operation so there is always someone around.

The drive to work is about 45 minutes and does provide the opportunity for daily boot wearing. I normally stop at a Bigg’s on the way in to pick up some munchies for lunch and I always wear my boots in there. I also often stop at Sam’s on the way home and always wear my boots there also. The staff at both of these stores has become very accustomed to seeing me in boots and these stores became my testing ground for skirt wearing.

    Welcome to the forum.

What kind of boots do you have?

Have you tried wearing any of your boots (but especially the thigh highs) out and about? Wearing them out in public can be a real hoot. I’m looking forward to reading more posts.

    Enjoy.

Great looking pictures. The 8868’s are a pull on style that is quick to slip into and, with the addition of a cushioned insole, are very comfortable. You really present a great image wearing them and your confidence shows right through.

With only 10 seconds on the timer, will there be enough time to photograph you in your ballet boots? I never thought that you could maneuver in them that quickly.

    Iloveboots -

Really nice pictures of you and Cathy. The “Cathy Nov 2005” look like Pleaser 8890’s which are a cow skin pull on boot. Does she have any problem keeping the boots up? Mine kept sliding down my legs because the shaft on the size 14s is too large for my leg. I wound up running a seam down the inside of the shaft to make them tighter.

You two make a great looking couple.

    All -

I still recommend the 8899 style with an ankle zipper and a 5” heel. If you can wear a 5” heel these are, with an insole, more comfortable then the 8868’s . The are a little taller then the 8868s and the shaft is tighter. It’s just a little more effort to get them on but they look great on your leg and and over jeans.

  10. I have several pair of black and carmel leather slacks and a pair of black 5 pocket leather jeans. I like to wear them with my thigh boots but it is not a summer time fashion. They can get warm with no air circulating. I think it is a great look as the boots blend with the black leather slacks/jeans and appear to be a single garment. Often when I see leather slacks modeled they are worn with pumps which also look great. I tend to buy them a little tight and they all are ladies cut. The size ranges from 12 to 16 but there is a lot of variation in sizing of leather garmets. You should try them on before you buy them. To answer your question... they feel great.

  11. I stopped at the Goodwill (thrift store) today at lunch and they had clothing on a 50% off sale. Normally their stuff is cheap but this was too much to pass up. They don’t advertise these sales but word spreads very quickly and the store was packed. I picked up a black ladies blazer that fits very well and a chocolate brown leather skirt with a built in belt that falls just above the knee. I had seen this skirt before and passed it up because I already had too many leather skirts but ... The skirt was brand new with the original $90 price tag and an extra button and the silica jell packs in the pockets. The label says it is a size 12 but it fits me like a 16. I’m wearing it now with a black turtleneck and black knee boots and the outfit looks fine. I wore the blazer with my chap boots and jeans at Sam’s and Bigg’s last night and the outfit worked well. I walked out of the Goodwill $7 poorer. That is bargain hunting.

  12. Posted Image

Here is the post when I bought them (click here).

They have a long flap on the top of each boot that goes over a belt that comes with the boots. The flap is designed to tuck under the belt and fold outward and attach to a couple of studs on the flap to form a loop. I wear them with the flap over the outside of my jeans belt and tucked under the belt so the rest of the flap extends back behind the boot as is pictured above. I think it looks cleaner and the flap showing on the outside and my belt is tight enough that the boots stay up without closing the loop. I am thinking of putting a velcro patch on the boots to hold the flap.

These are not summer time boots.

  13. I work in an IT office with some really great folks but they plan major system upgrades so they won’t conflice with deer hunting season. ;) I don’t thing they would be comfortable with or accepting about my wearing boots at work. Thanks for sharing your stories about your office. It’s great fun just thinking about it (and wishful thinking it is).

  14. I went to Bigg’s and Sam’s tonight wearing my chap boots with an olive green turtleneck, jeans, and a black blazer. I thought the outfit looked rather nice. On my morning shops at Bigg’s, I almost have the store to myself but both stores were crowded tonight.

At Bigg’s I had to ask if there was any more of an item is stock and stand around for 5 minutes while the clerk went back to check. After that I wandered around the store without a shopping cart. I got a couple of glances but other than that no reactions at all even standing in the checkout line.

At Sam’s I wandered around with a shopping cart and again got a few glances but for the most part I was ignored. After I had gone through the checkout and was walking out, one woman saw me and gave me a look that would have cooled soup, but that happens. I even stopped for gas and no one noticed.

I’m just out as a casually dressed guy with non-traditional footwear and it seems that most people are willing to go along with that.

    Iloveboots -

“It was so cool strutting across the floor”. Come on; give the rest of the dinners a break. Simply walking across the dance floor would have been enough. ;) Sounds like another fun night out.

    Shafted -

Funny how the perception of a giggle changes with a woman’s age. Giggles from teens are just an annoyance. The one I got from the register clerk was just a delight.

  15. That look deserves a lot of loud horn tooting. I think both pictures look great. The gray turtleneck looks fine with the black skirt and it goes without saying, I like the boots. To my eye, simple is better. You might try a plain black turtleneck with the gray skirt, or even the gray turtleneck with the gray skirt. Remember you getting advice from a fashion illiterate. I shaved off my beard one time because our office secretary said, “you know, I don’t remember what you looked like without a beard.” I had no idea you would shave yours but it really does soften your image. This is not a suggestion but if I were a talking mirror I’d say the look you are presenting (especially the black skirt) is fine enough to venture out with. Where did this come from? I had no idea either of us were heading in this direction. I do have to admit though, its a fun trip.

  16. JeffB –

Don’t blame me for starting this skirt business. ;)

Both of the skirts look great. I’m not sure I like the sweater with the dark skirt but the grey combination looks awesome. One suggestion, try posing with your heels close together. It would look more like a non aggressive stand than an aggressive stance.

At least 10 years ago I quit wearing a beard after wearing one for 20 years. There were two reasons for shaving it off: 1) it had turned gray, 2) the beard didn’t look right with the style of clothing I wanted to wear. Back then I wanted to try wearing a leather skirt with boots and while not trying to appear as a female the beard pushed my appearance too far in the other direction. The whole thing just looked funny (my opinion).

The three knit skirts I bought were about a foot longer then the ones you found. I think that how conservative a skirt looks is directly proportional to its length. By the way, aren’t thrift stores great for allowing you to try new things on the cheap?

I agree with dr1819 that the look might be better with boots. With long skirt it doesn’t make any difference if they are knee high or thigh high.

My advice on going outside is to look in a mirror first. Make sure the image you see is one you are comfortable presenting. I don’t think I present quite as masculine an image as you do, especially with the beard so I was comfortable with the image I saw in the mirror and went out. As I have said before, what I am comfortable with changes.

I like your look with slacks/jeans and heels and really like the look with jeans and boots. My first impression when I saw your long skirt pictures was that the look didn’t work. The beard was too much. I tried to imagine the look without the beard and it was better but I’m still not sure. Oh well so much for my two cents worth.

  17. Last night I ran into Sam’s on the way home. I wore my black leather pull on thigh boots with 4” stilettos. As usual, no one paid any attention. When I got to the checkout I got into a queue that had a clerk I had never seen before. She didn’t notice my boots as she rang up my stuff. I walked past the end of the register counter and was in full view when one of the other clerks said, “My friend still can’t find those boots on the internet”. (This clerk, a guy, had asked me several weeks ago where I had gotten my boots and I gave him a URL).

My clerk turned to the other clerk and asked, “Boots? What boots? What are you talking about?”

The other clerk said, “My friend wants a pair of boots like his.”

My clerk looked back at me and I held my leg out a little sideways to show the heel and said, “Like these.”

The look on her face was priceless! Her eyes got as big as saucers and she gave an honest giggle. I took it as a giggle of delight rather than laughing at me. This one of the best reactions I have ever had.

This morning I had to scrape the ice of my windshield which meant it was cool enough to wear my chap boots. These are the Ellie chap boots that were advertised with a 5” heel that turned out to be 6”. The heel tip was canted out past the back of the boot which made them almost impossible to walk in. I had ½” cut off the heel and that made all the difference. There is still a big difference between my normal 5” heel and these 5 ½” heels. It made a difference in driving. I had to be sure I knew where the peddles were with that higher heel.

My morning grocery shopping in the chap boots was without event. I had some extra time so I walked the length of the store twice to get used to the extra ½” of heel. The exercise really helped.

The cashier at the checkout had seen me many times before, even in a skirt, but not with the chap boots. She greeted me with a “Hi Hon” which caught me a little off guard.

When she had finished the transaction I said, “It’s finally cool enough for there”.

I was in full view and she replied, “Well Hon, whatever it takes”.

When I left the store I still wasn’t used to being called “Hon” but … whatever it takes.

You guys are almost making me scared to wear my boots in Ohio. Between the legal system and iloveboots advice on learning to run in heels I’m not sure I want to go outside.

I do try to not be “In your face” about wearing my boots and avoid situations which seem to upset anyone so I think I will still keep at it.

    iloveboots –

Thanks for the comments on venturing out in new cities. I really like going to museums especially art museums and I have never had a problem wearing my boots to any of them.

I guess I really should practice moving quickly in heels. It might come in handy even crossing a street. Anyone that wanted to could outrun me even when I’m wearing flat shoes so winning a foot race in heels is out of the question. It did occur to me that a sharp pointy heel on a leg exercising a kick would be a deterrent but I really don’t want to find out if it is or not.

  18. since-i-can-remember

Nice first pair. They would also look good worn over your slacks. If the boots are a stretch fabric, be sure the slacks fold flat agint your leg so there aren't any lumps telegraphed through the boot fabric.

Try the boots over your slacks, look in a mirror and if you like the look you see, then, yes, you can wear them that way and no one care. Go out heeling with confidence.

  19. NikkiHH –

I couldn’t agree with you more when you said, “In my opinion wearing a skirt does put across a very different look”. I wear thigh boots and jeans a lot but changing the jeans for a skirt really does change the look. Another factor is the length of the skirt. I didn’t appreciate how much that changed things until I tried a long skirt. The shorter the skirt, the more daring the look (and that isn’t limited to guy skirt wearers).

It sounds like you really enjoyed your outing. I think if you can wear “boots and tights with denim hotpants” you can wear just about anything.

Don’t become complacent, then have a great time.

  20. JeffB -

The new boots look great with the black outfit and the beard is coming along nicely too.

I haven’t tried the PU material before. Are the boots comfortable especially after a couple of hours?

    booty lover -

Welcome to the board. Tell us a little more about the shopping trip.

  21. This morning I wore my white leather thigh boots with 5” stiletto heels on my grocery trip. I wore them with a white turtleneck, tan suede jacket and beige slacks. I chose the white boots for no better reason than I hadn’t worn them for a while.

One thing about white thigh boots is that they attract a lot more attention than the black ones do. I got a couple of wide eyed looks from people that hadn’t seen me before and the folks that disapprove of my style of dressing had a harder time ignoring me.

The register clerk this morning is not uncomfortable waiting on me, but she does disapprove of my boots. We chatted about the weather (fog was so thick I couldn’t see the store from across the parking lot) with no mention of my boots.

One down side of wearing white boots while driving is that most peddle covers will leave black marks on the boots. The concept of being careful so that doesn’t happen is not appropriate while driving. Driving demands enough attention that I can’t spare any to worry about marking my shoes/boots. Any advice on cleaning white leather would be appreciated.

    Iloveboots –

It really is great to have another person posting about wearing thigh boots in public especially someone that’s been at it as long as you have. I think all of us wearers are looking forward to learning from your experience. The pictures look great and I’m looking forward to more posts.

I have always cautioned against becoming complacent about picking places where I will go wearing my boots. I am still concerned about walking into a bad situation. I haven’t had a bad outing yet, but would like to avoid one if I can. Any advice would be appreciated.

  22. Spaulocentro -

Welcome to the board. There is lots of good advice and information here about wearing heels and boots. I think you will find that you can wear anything you want without too much concern especially in New York.

I do recommend being discrete in business meetings but away from work no one really cares. Next time your in the shoe store try on some heels.

    Have a great time.
