Have fun in Carmel??  I have been there in heels many times.

You look good, but it is hard to tell that those shoes are heels at all....

    Have fun.....   sf

    Stan,

Carmel was a wonderful getaway, and in the right circumstance, a place I could see us living!

With it being a holiday weekend, there were plenty of people bustling about.

The Sorel wedges that I wore went unnoticed I believe save for one woman who was walking her dog. But as I am happy to report, I received a smile and a ‘Good morning’ as she went on about her day.

    ANTICIPATION:

I’ve always been excited to get new shoes/boots. When I purchase them in person, it is a wonderful feeling because I can wear them right then and there.

When I order a pair either from a store’s website or on Poshmark, there’s always those few days(3-5 usually) where I am anxious for the new purchase to arrive.

That being said, this most recent purchase has me being tested even further!

Neither my wife nor I have any rain boots. Admittedly, we don’t live in an area where rain is such that we really need some, but it’s fun to accessorize!

Now the typical brand that I would flock to in this case is Hunter. They seem to be globally known and carry a good reputation from what I’ve seen. With that comes a price. My wife and I decided we should look for a pair, but not seek to spend $100+ on them.

Searching Poshmark, either my wife or I came across a brand called Joules. They seem to be of similar quality, etc. to Hunter, but focus a lot on patterns/designs on their boots.

Many patterns had a floral theme, while others included animals such as dachsunds or seagulls.

The pattern we honed in on was a navy blue base with white stripes.

When it comes to sizing, they follow the same path that Hunter does, which is you usually want to get a size smaller than your normal size. Luckily, Poshmark had a size 6 for the wife, and she promptly received them yesterday, which she commented that they were a good fit, and she liked the pattern. The cost for them after shipping, etc. from Poshmark was $37.

That order was placed on Monday, the same day I ordered mine from a vendor on eBay. This is where the anticipation comes in. My wife received hers two days after the order. Mine aren’t scheduled to come in until a week from tomorrow!

As we tend to like matching from time to time, we of course got the same style!

Let me know what you all think.

  2. Well we made it back from our short vacation down to Carmel.

I was hopeful that I would have seen more women in heels than I did, but that’s not to say that the ones I did see were not of good quality.

In the places where we did catch notice of a woman in heels, it was in places where affluence is commonplace. There was no doubt that many of the heels and booties that I saw came with price tags of $150+.

That’s quite alright to me, considering the area we were staying in.

Now for myself, before we left for the trip, I made the ultimate decision not to take my newest boots. It was more of a decision of comfort. That’s not to say the new boots aren’t comfortable, but I haven’t had a chance to wear them for an extended period of time to judge just how comfortable they’d be for a day out and about.

That being said, I took a pair of Converse wedges, and my Sorel wedges. We did a small amount of hiking on Saturday, which in hindsight, was no more difficult than walking on a running track. Little to no elevation change and paved paths made easy work for the hike. However, not knowing what it would have been like, we both opted for our actual hiking shoes.

Due to circumstances that comes with having a young kid, I did not get a chance to wear my Sorel wedges until this morning while we walked around the shops in Carmel before heading out.

Let me know what you think, but I quite like this look.

I am from the Bay Area, but visited the Los Angeles area over the summer.  Google Wasteland and you find the webpage from there.

Will do. I am over in Newark/Fremont if you ever fancy a meetup

  4. Thank you all for the compliments! Yesterday was also a nice surprise in that a new pair of boots I ordered arrived when I wasn't expecting them until next week!

Here is the link to the post in the other forum about the new boots. TL:DR version is that I scored some Naturalizer leather boots that were normally $200 when they came out for only $30 plus tax/shipping! So I paid under $40 for a brand new pair of leather boots, and love them!

I must say that one thing I am excited for to hurry up and arrive is fall/winter. I realize that if I were over on the West Bay area, such as San Mateo, San Carlos, SF, etc., that the temps would be much cooler than they are now. However, over here on the Newark side, it is still getting to mid/upper 80s for the high, and I cannot for the life of me bring myself to wear my boots in that warm of a climate. I have much respect for those that do.

HOWEVER, I am excited to say that next weekend, we are taking a short family trip down to the Carmel, Big Sur, Monterey area, where temps are much more to my liking. I plan on taking at least the new pair of boots, with possibly one other pair. However, it is a short 2 night trip, so we will see how it goes.

  5. I just recently acquired a new pair of Naturalizer boots. One night while browsing the web of things, I checked in on their site to see what fall styles were coming out. Naturalizer is not known for their height when it comes to heels(usually no more than 3"), but they have seemed to be a little adventurous, and I was mainly looking out for some ankle boots.

While scrolling through the new stuff, I decided to see what was on sale. After all, it's not just 'In with the new.' There has to be an 'Out with the old' as well! So the sale page drew my attention, and while I have seen boots and shoes at a reasonable discount compared to the MSRP before, this particular sale just blew my mind! There was a knee-high boot called Dev that was originally sold at $200; too rich for my blood. However, as I assume it was one of their last pairs in this color, only size 10 was available, and priced at only $29.99! Now the logical side of me thought that this must be a typo, because this boot that came in two colors was still $99.99 in black. I was looking at the 'Banana Bread'/Tan color for $70 cheaper?!

I showed my wife who actually immediately said I should get them! We both have boots and shoes from Naturalizer already, and love the comfortable instep of them. It's their N5 comfort system that just makes the shoes a joy to wear.

I must admit that I was apprehensive, because the heel was only listed at 2", but then I also though, "The wife said to get them, and they'll go with a lot of looks I bet." So I pulled the trigger, and while I was not expecting them until sometime next week, they arrived yesterday!

I am adding only one picture for now, but I am going to link to them on the website. My first impression is that the heels aren't colored perfectly, meaning they seem to be missing some color? Either way, for the price, and the fact that the boots are real leather, I would've been silly to pass up on the opportunity.

I had another place I found during a trip with my step=daughter and her friends.  We were in the Los Angeles Hollywood area and as they were checking out various shops, I found a Wasteland Store on Melrose Blvd.  We have one of these stores in the San Francisco Haight Ashbury area.  The store on Melrose Blvd was incredible.  There were all the top name brands CL, YSL, Chanel ect. there.   The starting price for the used heels was  $104 for these top line brands.  I also came to find out there is a webpage listing 4 stores.  One in San Francisco, three other in the Los Angeles area.

The main thing I got from this is that you’re in the Bay Area?!

Thank you everyone! This is all good to read! I’m seeing like Louboutin’s and some designer heels on the not so ridiculously priced side as well! But also other really cute shoes. I appreciate the feedback

I have never bought anything such as Louboutin off of Poshmark. The scary side to spending that much money is not knowing whether they are real or not. I do not know if they have any protections for a buyer who buys with the intent of getting a genuine designer name, but ends up with a pair of knock-offs.

I haven’t had any experience with the site called ‘TheRealReal,’ but they claim that they verify all of the products listed are genuine and not imitation. They also have good pricing as well on there.

  8. Ok, so I know I need to update this and cover at least the topic of heels at work; a subject I brought up a while back.

However, I felt I should post this picture because this is my mood this morning. I believe I have posted a picture of the coffee mug before, but sitting out back enjoying some coffee this morning, it just felt right in heels.

  9. I have contemplated starting one with my wife. We would cover many things, splitting it into her stuff, my stuff, family stuff, etc.

We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but brainstorming has started. I definitely want to have one though that covers my heeling, if nothing else.

By the way @Tallboots I just realized I follow you on Instagram.

I was curious if anyone has purchased from this site. It's gently used shoes as well as other clothing from sellers. I've recently fell in love with the site due to lots of heels that are in my size but I'm not sure how logistically it works and how it's shipped. Still trying to do discreet shipping...

I’ve used it quite a few times.

Shipping - most of the items I’ve purchased have come in a non-descript box. If the seller has the original box, they usually put that in another box. If they don’t have a box, they usually get a priority shipping box from USPS. That’s how all of the items are shipped, through the postal service.

Sizing - The way the sizing selection works is what I would consider wonky. I am a size 10 in women’s, which over time I’ve come to recognize as an EU 41. However, on Poshmark, they say US 10 is actually an EU 40. I’ve bought some shoes not paying attention to this and ended up with them being too small. Some examples of this include Aldo, who usually sizes their shoes primarily in EU sizes. So if someone goes to list shoes that are an EU 40, they still get flagged as a 10. As well, Hunter typically runs big. A US size 10 is really closer to a size 42, which is too big for a US10. For Hunter, if you want to find a shoe that fits, you have to select a size 9 when you search.

Overall I say it’s a good resource, but make sure to ask questions such as additional pictures and if there are any flaws or signs of wear.

I hope this helps and feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

  11. I dated a girl some years ago who had these boots by Calvin Klein called Riana. The front of the shaft was a smooth leather and the back was textured. They weren’t the highest of heels but to me they were wonderful. She happened to be the same size as me, and there were quite a few times that I would secretly try them on when she wasn’t around. I’d still love to have a pair to this day.

I had my MRI review this morning. She went over the MRI's with me and one is almost disintegrate - 90% gone and the other is totally shredded - about 70% . Normally they would talk about surgery, but this doctor understands I wear high heels for my hip, and surgery, cast, recovery would mean 6 months of hip pain. Not good. So I am just going to tape it correctly and rest/ice it.  Operate if and when it goes completely.

She also wants me to get (front) lace up boots so I can control the pressure on my foot. I told her those are hard to find. She said "You right, I don't even have a pair myself."

So I'm on a lookout for some new front lace-up boots.

Round toe, 4 inch differential (heel - toes), platforms are okay, wedges are okay.

I also have to change my ski boots to a front opening type.

@Cali are you looking for ankle, mid-calf, or higher for the shaft?

I am sorry to read the not-so-great news, but hopefully some changes will help alleviate some pain as well as prolong the need for surgery.

  13. Hello,

I cannot remember if this podcast has been mentioned before on the site, but I was looking for podcasts related to men in heels and came across an episode that talks about the history of high heels(spoiler alert - it dates back to the 9th-10th century AD.)

After listening to that episode, there was another two part episode that I listened to that talked mainly about gender bending clothing, i.e. people wearing clothing that may have been intended for the opposite sex.

The episode for the shoes is called Men in Heels, and the two part is called Gender Bending Fashion.

Cool - are you all night owls or early risers?  I have a workshop during the day...

I am usually at work by 6:30am every day. For me, the best option would be the evening as I would likely have more time available.
