I agree, just walking around a bit inside your boat is probably not going to help much. You really need to get out where you can take a decent walk, develop a stride, and adapt to the heels. It seem like your only choice here is to place your boots in a back pack until you get somewhere that is suitable for a decent walk. The other issue is what to do with the back pack once you find a decent spot. I have wrestled with a similar dilemma with some of my more challenging boots/heel heights. Sure, I can walk around the carpeted hotel room fairly well, but hitting the open sidewalks was another story. I would quickly tire and get soar, and I'm sure all this was showing in my strides/steps, which ultimately attracted just the type of attention I did not want. One way I have realized when I am comfortable/confident with a particular pair is when I almost forget I'm wearing them while out and about. One of my biggest issues is self confidence, so once I am proficient enough to almost forget I'm wearing them, I stop "overthinking it".

I am getting ready to downsize homes as well. Although I won't really miss this place, but realize alot of "stuff" has to go, including some boots. This retirement thing is not all it is cracked up to be

Looking way back, I surely remember the "threat" of the belt or wooden spoon, but don't remember actually being punished with them. Granted, I was the last of four kids, so the parents were probably burned out on parenting...."Go out and play" was the rule of the day for me... I did my best to fly under parental radar as well...

I think many of us just want to skip the slower progression of heeling progress and jump right into 4-5" stilettos! I surely did, and suffered all the usual pains and emotional set backs. Right now, I spend alot of time in my 3" block heeled ankle boots, which I feel keeps my muscles somewhat stretched in the right fashion....So, when I am lucky enough to be able to wear my stiletto boots, there is little or no pain/discomfort/lack of skill. I hear ya for sure, wearing my boots is a bit of a "double edge sword". I don't want to be to "over the top" drawing too much attention (perhaps negative attention). But, at the same time, I really do want others to notice, and approve. Sure, one of the benefits of my advanced age is not caring about what others think, to some degree. But, there is still a part of me that wants other to approve, perhaps be a bit envious..

I love many different styles of boots, but am extremely fussy as well. Wish I could have seen the boots, wondering if our tastes are similar

They are beautiful, must feel great to wear, and surpringly comfortable to walk in Cool, sure wish it was me!

I have always felt that larger sizes were much easier to navigate given the same heel height due to the smaller angle from heel to toe

During my time at AA, the female FAs were indeed required to have two pairs of shoes: "inflight and higher heels for the terminal". Ridiculous, very few conformed with these rules. I was there from the late 90s thru last December. I also remember initial training, and the ridiculous requirements for females. In my class, there was a male instructor who was in charge of "female image requirements". This was really awful and unfair. I still remember women coming out of image sessions crying.
