  1. Im asking for help from the community with my shoe shopping, im trying to expand my catalogue of shoes. Walking into the normal New Look, Dorothy Perkins and long gone Faith stores arent enough for me now, im looking for new places and styles.

Im looking more towards the styles of Carvela, Jasper Conran and Dune. Can you think of any others? Im usually a uk8 but i found these brands come up small, so with that in mind, im looking for them in a uk9, which seems almost impossible. Im 10mins from central london during the week too! What am i missing?

It's a real shame about 'Faith/Solo', however you can keep an eye out for 'Bronx', 'Cassandra', 'Schue', 'Blu Shoes', 'Anne Michelle' and 'Michael Antonio' in many UK stores.

The shoe departments of Debenhams and John Lewis are also good places to hunt...and believe it or not, 'Karen Millen' shops are 'men in heels friendly'....although a little pricey.

  2. I'll look anywhere for rare or collectable high heels. Charity Shops are a really good place to look...I've found some bargains in 'British Heart Foundation' and 'Cancer Research'.....our local 'Oxfam' shop is good too.

    Here's a pair I bought earlier - to coin a phrase......

    post-1866-133522918009_thumb.jpg

Vintage 1950's 'SpringoLator' mules...in Leopard print. 'Furry' Leopard print too!

  3. Assuming you meant Veet (rather than Veep)... If so, how do you like Nair vs Veet? I have used Veet on occasion, but often go back to shaving because the Veet is pretty harsh and doesnt work as well as they advertise. I am more concerned that its eating away at my skin just as much as its trying to dissolve the hair.

I swear by 'Veet Sensitive' with Aloe Vera.....and my skin's a lot more delicate than yours no doubt. As for how well it works, I've never had a problem with it...and that includes 'Brazilians' too!!

  4. pussyinboots,

My statement about your husband wearing some heels was in reference to your post that he, like many men, would prefer their mates to wear high heels 24/7. If their mates chooses to satisfy the preference, then that is the mate's right to do so, but the preferer should be willing to also satisfy what they want their mate to do for them. (within reasonable reality, of course).

As far as trying to muster any urge on my part to view your husband's physique, while he's wearing heels in the circumstances your have set forth, I would readily accept a pass to prevent any possiblity of an embarrassing moment for the both of us. Now, a more casual meeting with the both of you has a better ring to it, but due to our present geographical locations and a few other deterrences, this will have to remain one of those ships passing in the night kind of things. Till we have the chance to share opinions on another heeling matter, here's reading your other posts, kid. (A variance to a line offered in the movie "Casablanca").

    OK! I retract it!

    It's OK Sweetie...I was joking!

  5. I wear heels on average about 13 hours a day.

I have worn them to bed on request but quite honestly I'd rather be out of them come bedtime.

I'm quite the opposite. I never wear my high heels in daytime for any longer than I have to. If I wear them for too long my feet get sore and tired and I get 'tetchy - so I gladly kick off my heels at any opportunity.....so I guess 3 or 4 hours is my max.

However, I'll wear them in bed for hours as my husband loves it....and when he gets excited...I get even more so.

  6. ^^ This is causing a huge fuss everywhere.....which is the whole point of it no doubt.

For what it's worth, I'm with sendra45. I think it's a very effeminate male model.....but we have only seen the head and shoulders so far.

  7. Karen is right. They always say that you can tell a lot about a man from his shoes and the care that he gives them. I think that also goes for the girls too. You can tell a lot about a girl and the style of heels she wears and how she takes care of them also.

    Cheers---

    Dawn HH

Agreed. Sadly, an awful lot of women in this country don't look after their shoes at all well....the High Streets are full of women in heels that are worn down past the tips, scraped, scratched, scuffed, unpolished....and just plain untidy.

The worst offenders are young girls in white heels or boots, covered in black scuffs and scratches...Oh Dear..!!

  8. High Street stores would be 'Nine West', 'Faith/Solo'....I would have included 'Office' a few years ago but their ranges have lost all sense of style or class these days.

Then two independent shops in my own town that sell fabulous ranges of high heels, from 'Bronx' and 'Cassandra' through 'Pleaser' and 'Tony'.....up to 'Leatherworks' and 'Brazilain Orchid' (last two to order).

  9. The very first thing that I do when I buy new high heels, is go straight round to the Shoe Repairer and have the plastic tips replaced with steel tips. Of course if they are metal to begin with, then they stay as they are.

With regular daily wearing, hard steel tips will last about 2 or 3 months, before they wear down too far on one side and become difficult to balance on. You would be surprised just how much difference a mere 2mm of wear on a tiny heel tip, can make to your balance.

As far as a 10 mile Charity walk is concerned, you will certainly need steel tips, and you may find that they need replacing again afterwards.

  10. My husband has always been an afficionado of ladies wearing high heels, so it was a happy moment for him when he realised that I wear high heels most of the time for my own pleasure and satisfaction. He also has similar tastes to me, so there are rarely arguments over my style.

Of course, he would prefer me to be permanently high heeled....but 6" spikes 24 hours a day are just not practical for me now.

  11. Hi everyone! Being relatively new to heels I was suprised at the amount of added male attention I get by wearing them.

Is this reaction hardwired into them?

Totally....and doesn't it make you feel SOOO good!:)

  12. ^^ Yeah....like, I ALWAYS think about what floors I'll be walking on when I buy a new pair of high heels!:)

Seriously, problems like this were more relevant when stilettos came with metal tips already fitted. Nowadays the tips are generally plastic, which are only fit for one wearing before they're destroyed and need replacing.

  13. ^^ I'm a rock fan from 'way back'....and I'm married to a rock musician from 'way back' too.

We both love Lady Ga Ga....she's supremely talented, and is a refreshing change from the 'production-line girlies' and 'boyzz' we get rammed down our throats all the time......

  14. It's an occupational hazard of wearing high heels. Unfortunately for her, she does it the public spotlight all the time. She should have worn lower heels for flying.

Ah Well....you live and learn....(at least, most folks do!).

  15. Dear all

    A little advice please?

I am going to a fetish do at the end of the week and intend on wearing my cream & black t-bars; at the last one, someone suggested I wear stockings, which i am intending on doing BUT I do not want to shave my legs - I am a mountain bike racer and my friends would notice that I have shaved them, without good reason (there is no speed advantage in this case!)

I have bought 2 pairs of "nude" tights to cover my legs which I will then wear a pair of black seamed stockings over the top, suspended off my corset. The problem is the nudes don't do enough of a job of disguising the hairs. I ususally wear a couple of black, high denier tights to disguise, with a coloured or patterned pair over the top for style.

So; would you please advise on a suitable combination of legwear to disguise the hairs but still show off the stockings without adding too much base colour?

Please no "just shave" this is not helpful; my leags are scarred from many scrapes with flora and my pedals and are not in any fit state to be seen shaven.

    Yours in anticipation

    Richard

PS; if you're really helpful i'll post photos.....

If it's a Fetish 'do', then frankly almost anything will go. You don't need to put on layers and layers to hide leg hair, especially in this hot weather we are having at the moment.

    I would suggest -

    a) a pair of opaque or semi-opaque patterned tights

    - or -

:) a pair of 'funky' patterned lycra leggings that will catch the eye, but hide the hair. To show off your heels you should buy the style that is cut off at the ankle.

Finally, if you really want to wear stockings, then opt for a pair of heavy deniere with a pattern, something like stripes or zig-zags that will distract the attention away from your legs underneath.

There are masses of hosiery sites on the Internet (just 'Google' 'patterned leggings' or 'patterned tights'), and most High Street girl's shops stock thicker tights and leggings too, so you shouldn't have a problem finding something you like.

    Happy Shopping!!

  16. I've have had 7" stilettos without platforms on and they positioned my feet way over my upright limit so that I couldn't stand up unless I was holding on to something. They would have been stylish substitions for the starting blocks in running races.

My heeling has been more successful with the height of 6", but here again it depends on how much heel and arch support is designed in the sloped construction of the heels I'm wearing. With 6 inchers, it is hard to keep my legs in a totally vertical profile and it is a bit like moving on stilts, but I do have some heel to toe mobility while not having to rely on other fixtures or crutches to keep balanced.

At heights less than 6", I present a greater degree of gracefulness and comfort heeling. I may have some heels less than 4", but after getting familiar and comfortable with the higher heels, the lower ones are left behind more.

I find quite the opposite with my husband. He loves me wearing extremely high heels in bed...he likes the way they emphasise the shape of my legs. His favourites are 6" mules....and 8" thigh-high ballet boots.

  17. Does anybody know any stores that usually operate in malls that sell extreme heels? It doesnt have to be in a mall but are there any shoes stores nation wide that sell extreme heels. What store can i find some ballets in?

If you're in the United States....you can go to 'Victoria's Secrets' stores.....and also any store that caters for Exotic Dancers, Pole Dancers and Strippers.

  18. Although 'Stripper' heels come in for a lot of criticsm, so too do 'Designer' heels.

I watched Graham Norton last night, one of his guests being the British actress and presenter Amanda Holden. She was wearing a rather cheeky pair of designer lace-up platforms of equal height to a stripper heel. They were black and white and actually looked quite smart.

She was asked by a member of the audience how much they were. Her answer was that they were hand made by a designer friend....and cost JUST £300.00.

The audience erupted in derision and she was close to being booed off the show!

Here are Amanda Holden's shoes that caused such controversy and amusement on the Graham Norton show. Actually, I think that they are rather nice:

  19. I used to ballroom dance several years ago, even some limited competition. The shoes I wore were narrow with a slightly pointed toe and a heel that was a little less the two inches. In ballroom dancing, especially competition, you must stay on your toes or the balls of your feet throughout the dance. That's why you see the male dancers with slightly elevated heels and I'm guessing that wearing high heels helps the women stay on their toes and the balls of their feet. And since appearence is so important in competition, the high heels enhance the appearence of the women's legs.

My Parents go Ballroom Dancing, they have done for years. The ladies heels are no more than 3", any higher and it would be dangerous....and difficult....to dance in. However, the Latin-American dancers wear higher heels.....around 3.5".

My Mum is 82....and still wears heels for dancing!

  20. Karen, Pussyinboots, you two are making me blush!!!

While I do follow fashion closely, I love how you two have the ability to walk in very high heels and how you two are not shy. You are confident and are able to flaunt your high heel prowess whenever you want which is something every fashion model wants to be able to do :)

    Well....you DO have style Heidi!

As you have so rightly said elsewhere on these Forums...it is what the wearer is comfortable with that makes their fashions work. I happen to love high heels (I have done since I was a teenager), and I am able to walk in most of them comfortably. Even now, in my '40's, I am still blessed with a nice figure, so I wear them as often as I can.

There will most certainly come a day, when high heels are not the right style for me any more, so I make the most of things while I can now.
