  1. I absolutely love the fashions of the 50's and 60's. Clothes, lingerie and shoes were all designed and styled to FLATTER a woman, and to express her femininity - not to thrust her in men's faces as a mere sex object.

Designers in those days had respect and admiration for the female form, and the resulting fashions showed this. There was none of this 'bottoms hanging out of jeans' and 'boobs busting out of tops' business - nearly all fashions were ultimately discreet and stylish - and so less, was often more.

Of course, there were very few restrictions with regard to the materials they could use, so furs, animal stoles, expensive leathers and of course ivory in corsets were all used to great flamboyant effect.

The high heels of the age were absolutly the peak of sensuality. The curves, the points and the thin high stilettos were the ultimate in design elegance and feminine allure in footwear - and most girls wore high heels regularly too.

The other thing that sets those fashions apart from today, is that women themselves had far greater self-confidence and self-esteem. They knew how to take a compliment, and they knew how to DRESS, and thus were able to show themselves off that much more sensually and gracefully.

All in all, a far more civilised, tasteful and elegant age for women's fashion in all respects.

  2. Actually that isn't strictly true, a mule is any kind of backless shoe.

Well I beg to differ, the common definitions state that a mule is - "a slipper or shoe that has no counter or strap to fit around the heel" - a slingback has a strap.

Don't take my word for it though....read what other girls have to say:

....whatever....a mule is a delightfully feminine shoe.

  3. Here are my incredible new 6" mules with no platform!!! A little difficult to walk in them in the beginning, but now they feel perfect! What do you think?

'6" mules'......The heels are gorgeous and you've got 'girly' feet so you can carry them off. They look great on you!

As for your legs, I would suggest waxing them the first time around....then as the hairs grow back, shave them every 2 or 3 days to keep them smooth.

The waxing may 'sting' a little....but the effects will be amazing.

  4. Hi pussyinboots -

Sorry if I caused offence, I didn't mean to - I was only making an observation. Where I live, I am quite confident in saying (from personal knowledge) that the VAST MAJORITY of girls aged 17-25 do not replace their heel tips and walk for the life of the shoe or boot on the heel nails. Yes maybe it's cheap or lazy or slovenly as you say, but none the less its a fact. Personally, I like it - but please don't jump down my throat for this opinion - each to their own surely?

It also was not a sexist comment - again it was my opinion and observation as a stiletto heel fanatic!

    Regards,

    Spaceinvader

Fair enough, I accept your comments. As you say, we're all entitled to our opinions.

  5. My girlfriend loves these types of mules (maybe with a slightly shorter heel), but I haven't found a place that sells a decent variety at a reasonable cost.

Where can I find them? http://0.tqn.com/d/shoes/1/0/c/1729-124669-d.jpg

I've also seen mules like the one in the attached, but with a strap closer to the ankle so the shoe moves less. Something similar to this, but with a much thinner strap. How are these called, and where can they be found? http://www.shoebuy.com/pi/class/class334804_183022_lg.jpg

    Thanks.

The second pair are not mules...technically, as they have a strap. Mules do not have any straps.

Take a look at Zappos - they stock masses of shoe lines:

  6. or by wearing a particular type of shoe (or no shoes at all) or by e.g. eating a sandwich or doing some other act. They are caused by a failure to control a vehicle correctly - to which end any of the other acts may be a contributory factor but not a cause as such. The various offences arise from such a failure to control or to drive in accordance with arbitrary legal restrictions (speed limits, signs, alcohol limits etc) or for using a vehicle that is not in a safe condition. Any of those failings will be cited if a prosecution is brought but the essential wrongdoing is one of not controlling the vehicle properly, having regard to all the prevailing circumstances that every driver is obliged to take into account as soon as he gets behind the wheel.

I neither condone nor condemn driving in heels or in any other manner that might interfere with necessary control. It is the driver's judgement and, alas, an error may be made. But, if there is no accident, there is unlikely to be any related offence (or, at least, any detected and actionable offence). As you say, merely wearing heels is not (yet) considered a specific offence - contrast with being presecuted for being 'under the influence' even if there has been no movement of the vehicle, let alone any accident.

What does worry me is the reported trend of prosecuting for alleged lack of control when e.g. eating an apple at the wheel in stationary traffic. Doing something that might, if continued, contribute to poor control is not the same as actually losing control and (unlike DUI or using a phone) has not yet been made the subject of a specific offence.

    Mind how you go!

Very interesting. I recently received my first and only speeding ticket - and rather than have 3 points put on my licence and pay a fine of £60.00 - I chose to attend a Driver Awareness Course held at the Police Driver Instruction Centre at Winfrith, Dorset UK.

The course was taken by two Driving Instructors and a Police Officer.

All afternoon, we were reminded that the CAUSE of most accidents on the roads are a) Lack of concentration and anticipation...and :) Excess speed.

A driver's inability to control the vehicle after the accident has begun is a secondary factor - which can be avoided if you strictly observe speed limits and thus allow yourself more reaction time . At least, that's what the Police Officer and Driving Instructors told us.

I guess they were wrong then.

  7. The Domina series has served me well as far as courts and knee high boots are concerned, fitting generally well. Not so much luck with the Domina series sandals. Normally I take a size 14 US but for their sandals I have to go down to a size 12 US.

That being said I love their knee high boots, for size and comfort they're the best I've ever had.

No, all of the Domina heels are 6".

  8. Hi all

lately i've been trying to find the perfect round-toe pump with the perfect heel height, but have not had much success. then i ran across this particular model called Fredie by Paprika, but no store online sells it besides eBay. I've had bad experiences with eBay, so i'm not about to make my purchase there. Anyone know any website that sells this particular shoe in a size 9?

It's a very smart looking pump. I think you'll be better off looking at mainstream retail websites like Zappos, or Store sites to find these. However, you could take a look at these.....unfortunately everyone is currently out of stock. Obviously a popular shoe!

  9. (as I did) and if you were unlucky you might be held responsible for the death of one or more people. Perhaps even a whole family.

If you are male , involved in an accident and were found to be wearing heels then the majority of the public would gladly see you hung I'm sure.

Well actually, I DO drive in heels as it is my choice and no-one else tells me otherwise.

It is a published fact, that the cause of 75% of all road traffic accidents in this Country are caused by.....excess speed. Police figures show this time and time again. Almost 20% are caused by drunk drivers or drivers under the influence of drugs. Which leaves 5%, and there is no evidence to show that high heels have ever been the cause of - or involved in - anything more than a handful of accidents. If a high heeled shoe causes you to drive at excess speed, or interrupts your concentration, then it could be cited as a contributory factor, but that is all. Certainly the Police suggest driving in a more practical shoe yes, however it is not a prosecuting offence to drive in heels - and if they were THAT dangerous, it would be.

There are far, far more reported incidents of domestic violence and attacks involving high heels, than there are motoring accidents.

  10. No! I am not dead nor was I hit by a bus. A certain person to whom I had entrusted my password to access another site, unrelated to ballet heels, used it to post a ficticious account of my demise while I was away for a long weekend.

The purpose of the trip was to meet, through a mutual friend, an orthopaedic surgeon who was prepared to consider doing an operation on my ankles. In the event, he could not give me any guarantee of success and warned that it would probably result in my being in a wheelchair within a matter of months rather than after the twenty or thirty years that I had envisaged.

I have had to concede that surgical modification presents too great a risk of failure and have therefore had to abandon my desire for permanance by this method.

Thanks again to everybody thar has contributed to this thread.

So...you knew this before you posted this Thread?

  11. This looks like a show in the USA called "America's Got Talent." In this video, the women were wearing some cool disco shoes. It brought back some nice memories.

'America's Got Talent', 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'The X-Factor' (UK and US) are all effectively one and the same show - albeit slightly different to suit the two Countries. Simon Cowell owns the rights to all of them.

  12. Can anyone advise on the fitting of these shoes. Due to height; do you have to go one size larger or are their sizes correct.

Advise on a 38 (euro) size in UK ladies size 5 or 6.

    Teeza

    Hiya....

Pleaser shoes are generally true to size. I have broad feet and they fit beautifully for me. I know plenty of exotic dancers and they all swear by them - good recommendation if ever there was one.

  13. Don't bother repairing them at all - just walk on the heel nails. Most girls do it anyway, and it's far nicer sound on the street.

I totally object to this sexist comment. MOST girls DO NOT leave their heels like this and walk on them, because MOST girls are NOT lazy, cheap and sluvenly.

If this is meant to be a joke - it's in poor taste. So please, either put a smiley on it, or use the word 'lots' - or just don't bother posting. Thanks.

  14. You can take a look on EBay UK. I have three pairs of 'Sharp-Heel' stilettos and they are exquisitely made - but darned hard to get hold of outside the Company's own website, or 'Milanoo'.

Try THIS link to the 'Sharp-Heel' site. It's the 'translated' page and you may find another way of contacting them. I've never had any problems.

  15. Hi,

I don't like the sound of a foot lifting and then sticking back down to the mule - it sort of sounds sticky/ slappy if you know what I mean - a totally separate sound to the heels - and I love the sound high heels make. Mules are just a bit too slappy....

I love watching others wearing mules though - they are a lovely shoe but I just don't like the associated slapping sound (as the foot lifts in the shoe) too much. Thats probably because I'm very self conscious of it when I wear mules.

    Cheers

    Heel-Lover

Please don't take this the wrong way - but according to my husband at least, the 'slapping' sound is a very 'girly' sound and is really associated with women in high heels, not guys. Of course, mules are the most feminine of all high heels styles.

Not that guys aren't entititled to wear mules, far from it, and we're both staunch supporters of men in high heels - but - it is a VERY 'girly' noise.

Does anyone enjoy the sound of a pair of spike heeled mules , especially when you are walking on some good tile or marble floor.

I simply adore mules, they are my favourite style of high heel. They are so feminine, and show off my feet in the best possible way.

My husband is the 'connoisseur' of the sounds they make however. He loves the 'click clack' of the stiletto tip on the pavement or hard floors - and the slapping sound of my heel as I walk. I always have steel tips put on my heels for better wear, however, the 'clickety clacking' is that much more obvious as a result.

Personally, I don't really notice it most of the time - although I DO notice the looks I get if I walk around the supermarket in a pair of sexy 5" mules with hard tips!:)

  16. I realise I'm going to be the lone voice here, but I think it's somehow sexy to see a girl in stilettos with stickers still on them or part of the stickers still there. No-one will really notice only people like us who "shoe watch" so I think it makes no difference, but personally I don't have a problem with it. It shows a girl loves the shoes so much, she just had to wear them immediately, and never bothered taking the stickers off!!

Or more likely, she is sloppy and will not look after her shoes.

Leaving the labels and stickers on shoes is a REAL fashion 'faux pas' or 'no no'. It means that everyone can see how much you paid for the shoes and the size that you take.

I think a lot of it, has stemmed from the 'trend' of clothes designers placing their labels on the outside of garments, rather than the traditional inside the collar or on the tail. It's purely an ego thing for people to show off their so called 'style' and taste - however it is a self-defeating process.

People attempt to be trendy and stylish by wearing labels outside the garment - and in the process make themselves look cheap and tacky!

Agreed, absolutely disgraceful...there are still so many people that don't have an open mind to this and many other things...if there is no harm being done then what does it matter...tis a shame.:)

Indeed. Behaviour like this, stems from just one thing - lack of education. Poor education breeds ignorance, ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds anger, anger breeds hatred. Hatred breeds violence and disharmony.

    Simple human psychology.
