  2. Ultimately so many reviews - good and bad - are written after a single wearing, or a single day, and are fairly meaningless. As was noted earlier, by the time you give something a fair try, enough to comment meaningfully on its durability, and ease of break-in, it’s fit over time, there’s a good chance that model will have been superseded in the relentless rush for “the next thing”.

  3. This is even more true, if, like me, one prefers to buy his shoes on Poshmark or Ebay. In that case, all that matters is whether the thing got there on time or whether it got there at all.

  4. New 13cm pencil stilettos. Love these shoes. They are actually very stable after several days of rough wear trying to test the heels. Pleased to report they past the test. The manufacturer agreed to make a couple colors not in their catalog for me so I'll be getting them in tan and red wine as well as white.

  5. One problem I have to admit I have is getting too many has lead me to occasionally forget what I have. Take these Pleaser pumps. These were bought as a backup pair yrs ago. I had long since worn out the originals which lasted for many years. Anyway resurrected, along with many others. I'll post here those others as I wear them.

  7. Still not Labor day, so white remains in style. Of course for me it always is.

  9. I agree with you about lax dress codes and slipping standards. Interestingly, however, my TV observations (particularly on the BBC, nationally or regionally) suggest that, even if a female presenter or newsreader is in fairly casual clothing (trousers; leggings; sweater etc), she is likely to be wearing courts or boots with a 3.5 - 4.5" heel, typically stiletto. I doubt that this is a BBC dresscode requirement - and it clearly doesn't apply so much outside a studio - but it suggests to me that these women are at least conscious of making a smart impression and realise that a pair of classic courts (little or no chunkiness or platform) is a good way of achieving it. I attach one example: Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast. She occasionally wears trainers but is usually in stilettos. Nice leather skirt too! I agree too about the greater choice of footwear for those of us with big feet - I am a UK11/12. ASOS in particular is recognising the demand, and the styles are not what I would call fetish wear.

  10. Another old pair of Pleaser heels I dug up. Pleaser are remarkably durable but do have a somewhat chunkier, less than spike stiletto heel that I really prefer. Otherwise they check all my boxes, durable, built for men, high (but not too high) and sexy. One other lacking quality is color, I love my colors, but black and red with the occasional taupe is all you get from Pleaser.

  11. Here are a pair of boots that you never thought you'd see me in, but here I am. They are Unisa brand, model name unknown, and they have right at a 4 inch heel. Believe it or don't, I didn't measure any other dimensions, so I couldn't tell you what they are. They are substantial block heels, obviously. The uppers are made of a faux suede material, and do not have any stiffness to them above the part that actually goes around the foot. In other words, they fold up easily. I have been reluctant in the past to even try higher than above the knee because my legs are so short that I don't need any more help dividing them up visually. That, and the very physical fact that what is a thigh boot for normal people is crotch high for me. I am pretty sure that the instant pair were intended to be over-the-knee, but on me they are thigh-ish. Not only that, they actually fit in every dimension, unless I were going for a stretch-tite look. It was a cold and blustery day on their maiden voyage, and I was glad to have the extra layer. I have no idea what they would be like in warmer weather, and I doubt I'll ever find out. More images are presented on my Melrose Plant thread in the Guys section.
