By and large, men in heels are rare birds, almost no matter where you are. I am up in the Minneapolis- St. Paul metroplex. This is a 3 million pop. area. And I never see any men in heels here. By way of encouragement, nobody bothers me about my heel boots, and at singles social events, I get quite a few shoe-related compliments from women. "I love your boots," is common. No one -- and I repeat, no one -- will give you a second glance. (something like these: And, as far as girls accepting men as they are, if you are honest from the "get go" the girls that aren't bothered by your heels will become known from your very first meeting. Curiously I looked into my atlas and saw that Gary is a big town in the immediate vicinity of Chicago. Is even a metropolpolis like Chicago not enough for you? Here my counterpart to your cry for help: I'm living in a small german village called Frankfurt. Nobody would know this village if we hadn't a 30 square miles airfield. If no rural public festivals like the Love Parade, the catholic St. Christopers Street Day or our traditional Carnival is taking place I'm mostly alone with my 1'' raised heels in our tiny shopping mall. Im desperate! Where should I move to? Into a onehundred souls village in the Bavarian Forest or to Heidi's alp in Switzerland? And how could I be shure that the mountain goats aren't laughing about me when I'm stumbling late in the night with my stilettos into their watering tank? No, the best choice is definetely a given up gold diggers camp in Alaska. Hoping that the ice bears are free from prejudices against guys on heels! Well ya, if you are walking down Lennox Avenue and 138th Street at like 4:30 when people are racing their motorcycles down the street. Or freestyling in the Polo Grounds up on Eighth and 155th. But stay south of 96th Street and I think you'd be fine. And anything in Lower Manhattan (Soho, Village, Chelsea) and you are in a Freestylers Paradise. I have been wearing high heels since I was 12 yrs old. I am now 55 and loving my life. I am married to a great gal that lets me wear heels at home and when we drive long distances. i wear them at home every night and when we make love. She just can't wear high heels - so I took that position in the family. My message is this - If you want to wear high heels - wear them where ever you want. No one will care and if they do too bad. they wouldn't have the guts to wear them and find the pleasure that you find with them. Don't try to figure it out - just do it. Don't wait to move away - I live in Hol;land MI and wear them to the party store and payless in town. The gal at Payless knows what I like and smiles when ever I enter the store wearing my 4 inch stacked heel boots that I bought there. Several years ago, a Boricua wearing those J.Lo Timberland imitations chatted me up when I was in a well known bar/club in NYC which specialises in Caribbean music. I was wearing black ankle boots very much like them, they came from a site I've mentioned on these boards before. She asked me about my boots and we got into a discussion about men's clothing styles. I gathered she doesn't like the "thugz" thang. I told her that as long as women fall all over "thugz" and the media such as eMpTyV promote it, that men/boys will continue to wear it. I saw her in the club a few times after that. She looked a fair amount as LaLopez did in her more Boricua days, the bountiful behind and all. No fear of "R'n'B types" here, but caution of anyone with a shaven head and FUBU. "Thugz" are "Thugz," period. I would imagine that being a heeler in the heartland would mean that the chances of seeing likeminded guys like you are pretty much slim and none. And I would imagine the reaction of others to the sight of a man in heels would be less than complimentary. The bottom line here is that it's all about location. Like the others here have mentioned, being in an east coast or west coast city would allow you to wear what you want without much in the way of trouble, and maybe, just maybe, you might see another guy in heels. I'd say there are harder places to heel than the US, any country south of the border will probably offer a more dangerous space for heeling since there's that whole "macho" attitude tied with less open-minded folks.
