chris100575 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 The zips on my new boots are quite stiff, and sometimes stick a bit. Is there a way to free them up a bit, or is it just a case of they'll get smoother with use? Chris
Zzz Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I use either a pencil or candle to rub on the zips of my boots if they are a bit stiff!
chris100575 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Thanks for the suggestion. I tried using a pencil because the boots are black suede and I didn't want to mark them, and it helped! Chris
krazykev64 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 You could try lubricating them with either clear silicone gun oil or sewing machine oil which does not stain cloth

Hopefully chris100575 got his problem sorted a wee while ago & hasn't been holding out for that response  Always High-Heel Responsibly
Bubba136 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 (mummmmmm, lets see -- 29th of Nov, 06 to 12th of Dec 09---more like three years to bump the post) Actually, I'd have tried a bar of bath soap, myself. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Dr. Shoe Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I just work it up and down a few times... You can use toothpaste because it is a slight abrasive and new zips jam because they still have those little sharp edges. chris100575 Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 As has already been pointed out, three years ago I did indeed try rubbing a pencil on the zips and it sorted it. Now they're just fine and the boots are still going strong! As for Anne and John's other suggestion, I've since discovered that a stick of bees' wax works wonders for the zip on my drysuit.
shoerepairer Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 If you get a silicone shoe shine sponge (around 90p UK) you can run this up the teeth without risk of damaging the upper, the sponge helps with easy application! Lee Repair Reuse Recycle. Cobbler it.
