mlroseplant Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I have two sons, 13 and 3. The 3 year old pretty much adores everything about me, including my footwear, and he's very vocal about it, almost to the point of embarrassment. The little one will point out my shoes to strangers on the street, given the chance. The 13 year old? Eh, it could be worse. Much, much worse. Yesterday evening, I needed to discuss something very important with my 13 year old. Since he had forgotten the charging cable to his computer at his grandparents' house, we decided to take a walk to have our discussion. I put on my new oxfords with a 3.5" heel because I figure they need to be broken in just a little bit more, but I know they're not going to cause me discomfort for a moderate distance walk. We resolved the issue I needed to talk to him about, and then afterwards I asked him what he thought about my heel wearing. Much to my surprise, he said he thought it was fine, even after I asked him to slow down the pace a bit, as I'm not as athletic as I aspire to be in heels just yet, and it's quite icy out around here at the moment. I asked him if he would be embarrassed if his friends saw me wearing heels. He answered, "No, not really. I think my friends already know my family is a little different." He did say that there was a girl he liked, and that maybe he wouldn't like it if she saw me wearing heels. But then he went on to add that perhaps she would be jealous that I walk in them much better than she does. I'm pretty sure that was a joke. But probably true. I feel lucky to have good kids.
Shafted Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Teens from my experience are most accepting of a man in heels. This is the single biggest age group that I receive compliments from. ilikekicks Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I have a new ' 21yr ' old family member. She told me flatly she doesnt care as long as I take her shopping for footware when I go. Shes ' Bought off ' , totally bribed I tell ya! Mostly, teen girls dont care or havent said anything to me. Teen guys however.. I dont know their opinions as none have ever said anything to me ( that I recall ). REPEATEDLY ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING AND RUDE. BANNED FOR LIFE.
Steve63130 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Teens individually are fine. In packs, female teens tend to giggle at everything or even nothing at all. Steve
Foxyheels Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 My lad is 15 and it doesn't bother him in the slightest. High heels are the shoes I choose to put on, respect my choice as I repect yours.
tightlevisandhhboots Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 My kids ignore for the most part, but do answer friends questions with yeah, those are my dads, or you've seen him wearing those. All matter-of-factly. No problems in the many years of heeling. My wife tho, does give me an eye-roll if she doesn't approve of a new pair... TLAHHB

TLAHHB Maybe you should take her with you when you shoe shop to see what she'd pick out for you, knowing what you're after. Shafted, the boots that is! hhboots Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 My son is pre-teen, and he doesn't seem to care what I wear as far as I can tell. I should ask him directly, but I did make a comment to him recently that I usually try not to embarass him in front of his friends, and he made a comment that basically his mom embarasses him much more than I do. That made me laugh, but I doubt my wife would think that's so funny lol
