  1. HighHeelDude -- you may not realize this but Fioni is a Payless brand. Here in the 'states, Payless is everywhere, they have a wide range of sizes, they carry some styles that have a fairly respectable heel, most of the stores are self-serve so they don't bug you as you browse, and they don't cost much. On the down-side I'm not all that impressed with the construction of a lot of their offerings and most of their stuff is plastic (PU or PVC) but especially for a starter-heeler they are worth consideration. No, I have no financial connection with Payless -- other than that of occasional customer.

  2. Shoe-shops use a "shaft stretcher" to stretch the boot shaft -- these devices use a screw and a scissor mechanism to force two metal sides outward against the sides of the boot. You want to be careful with one of these, they can develop a lot of force inside the boot. For instance, wouldn't try it with a side-zip boot because it could easily tear the zipper loose or blow it out (rip the teeth apart). The good thing about these is you can increase the force gradually and leave them in for long periods of time, letting the material stretch at its own rate. They are kind of pricey but you can find them on eBay. Search for "boot shaft stretcher" and you will find them. Here's a picture of one of these dudes:

SarahLou, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your bringing up this topic of discussion! There is no reason at all to delete this thread. We do want lurkers to register and join the conversation and you are just giving them a little nudge in that direction  .
