  1. I've never been fully comfortable with this street-shot idea. While it is interesting to see what people are wearing and the heels are always fascinating, it does smack of "invasion of privacy". It can be argued that privacy concerns go away once a person ventures out into public but I cannot help but thinking "would I be comfortable having this picture of me posted on the 'net for all the world to see?" It's true that if you venture out of your domicile you are in full view of the public -- regardless of your attire. But most of us don't think about having our pictures posted on the Internet for all to see. I think it is safest for street-shot pictures to be as generic as possible -- meaning they should show shoes, feet, legs and possibly bodies only -- definitely not faces in a recognizable form. Further -- face shots should be cropped out of the frame, not simply distorted because modern image processing can reverse most image distortion algorithms. I find back shots to be preferable because they do not show the face. Side shots are okay provided the face is not visible, and full frontal face shots should be avoided. In the end it is more an issue of simple courtesy than anything else. Just ask yourself this question: "If I were this person, would I be comfortable with the whole world seeing me in this outfit?" If the answer is anything but an unqualified "yes", it is probably best not to post it.

  2. Ahhh... very interesting...thank you, I love learning this stuff.

I'll tell you one thing, I shan't utter the word "Cr@cs" again on this site. LOL!

I always enjoy learning the technical internals of things too. (For an engineer, that's probably a good thing. . .)

Don't worry about mentioning the name of that dreaded line of plastic footwear. We just try to keep it all in the same place!

  3. LOL! If you re-title the thread "Ugly mainstream footwear trends" (or something) will it fend off the dreaded Google spiders??? . . .

It'll take more than that -- in this discussion a "spider" is a program that scans through the HTML code of a Web page and looks for links. It then follows those links and indexes all the content it finds there. "Spiders" have this name because they "crawl" the "web" to look for content. They don't pay much attention to thread titles.

Google uses "spiders" to index the content of websites and compile their search database. They also use this data to build their page rankings, which are then used to determine the order in which search results are presented.

Sorry to get technical on you. Just a glimpse into how the Internet works. . .

  4. I am new to the forum so pardon me if I am overstepping a boundry or just simply showing lack of understanding by replying to this post.

You are as eligible to post here as anybody -- especially when you bring this type of insight to the discussion.

    I am not really sure what . . .

. . . supposed to figure that out yourself.

Sounds like you have been there.

  5. lol, I don't know if it's allowed to speak dutch here . . .

HHplace is an English-speaking website, so please try to keep the discussion in English.

That said, HHplace is also an international website -- we have members from all around the globe. Some (perhaps a lot) of our members speak and write English as something other than their primary tongue and we do recognize that. It is possible that certain issues or certain viewpoints may best be expressed in a member's "mother tongue" but we would appreciate a translation in that case, just so everybody can join in. Please do try to keep the majority of the discussion in English.

  6. I will look into that. I take it the shrink sleeves are permanent?

Yes, they are intended to be permanent. Although they do no damage to the heel or heel cover -- unless you overdo it with the heat gun. The sleeves can be cut away carefully if you want to take them off.

I just did a search for these on the 'net but did not find anything. The heat-shrink tubing is probably the best way to go.

  7. The only thing I have found unsafe about driving in heels is the pesky scuff marks that you get on the outside of the right heel from resting your foot on the accelerator. Its more dangerous for the shoes, in my opinion.

I have seen clear plastic heat-shrink sleeves intended to protect heels from this very problem. You slip them over the heel and shrink them down with a heat gun. Clear heat-shrink tubing works too, although it can discolor a little.

  8. I've merged three "crocs" threads into one. We have no problem with this discussion taking place but we would like to keep it all in one thread. Please bear in mind that Google's spiders scan this site and index its contents. I don't think we want HHplace to become a discussion forum for crocs. . . (shudder) . . . perish the thought!

  9. We can all pray for that wonderful day when these hideous crocs go away! But I am afraid that one of two things will happen: 1). They are with us ad infinitum. --or-- 2). People will eventually get tired of them only to have their fancy turn toward something even worse (hard-to-imagine though that may be).

  10. Look up 'pluperfect' Doc - it does not mean sublime, exquisite, more than perfect or some similar expression of superior quality - which is what Maverick clearly tried to express, colourfully but incorrectly.

    I think you're nit-picking here. Two points:

1). Any heeler would have to agree it is a great story. The reader's imagination can easily visualize the main character's initial dejection at not being able to wear her dream shoes, her feeling of hope when she learns of the boot camp, her palpable disappointment when the lovely shoes no longer reside in the store window and her ultimate joy when they become hers at her successful completion of her training. The imagery is delicious.

2). Maverick clearly states that he did not write the story. It is likely that he is quoting it verbatim, so criticism of him is misdirected.

Perhaps "exquisite" or simply "perfect" would have been better choices for that sentence.

But it is still a good story.

  11. . . . There are a lot of guys into heels for both wearing and admiring, but so few would ever admit it. E-Bay is the perfect anonymous way of guys to wear and play with heels.

I think you have hit upon the key word for the men-buying-heels-on-eBay phenomenon: anonymity. It's the same reason so many of us buy our heels online, only with eBay you can sometimes get a better deal. It is also possible to find unique styles that are out of production on eBay.

All in all, I've had good experiences on eBay and I have bought tools, computer gear, books, recorded media (CD's and tapes), audio equipment and a plethora of other items in addition to (usually heeled) shoes. There are some cheaters out there but you can usually detect them up front. I have had to be patient with a couple of sellers but I have yet to leave a negative feedback for anybody.

  12. Your comment is true. However, how do you handle a situation like that?

I usually look for some other way down to the level that I am going to. However, that's not always possible.

Well, admittedly, if I am wearing my highest heels I'm not going anywhere that I will have to negotiate ramps. If I am going someplace where a ramp lies in the way, I'm wearing a lower heel and it is not a problem.

  13. . . . As far as a camcorder, there are some very tiny ones out that you could just set on the floor near you, but you wouldn't want to get fired...

Be careful here -- I remember a news story about a guy who found himself prosecuted for mounting a miniature camera in the toe of his boot. (Of course, he was looking up womens' skirts, not at their footwear.)
