  1. Hi Saz! Though living in Germany I ordered several times from HowCool. However, this has been some years ago already and I don't know how they perform nowadays. Anyway, back then they sort of delivered what was shown in their offers and - regarding the distance (I think it's US west coast) - pretty promptly. I think you should give'em a try. You might ask them for shipping costs beforehand and make sure UK-customs doesn't ask for a fortune... ;o) BTW, where did you get the data in your signature from? Did you do some measurements? ;o) CU! -Mike

  2. lil_becs, lil_saz! Yes, way to go! Since I got a big crush for high heels myself as well I do understand that passion. So, don't let them tell you what to do and follow your way. Do it in a decent manner but don't exaggerate and you'll have all the fun - even with your 5"+ heels - one can gain from this! As Shafted already said: It's good to see young women are still enthusiastic about their high heels... CU! -Mike

  3. Hi! Though I live in Germany I always check eBay US, UK or ... for offers. This is because there are some particular styles that won't be sold in Germany ever. If it's available elsewhere and in my size then - heck with the shipping - I gotta have'em!!! I do use PayPal, credit card, bank wire transfer (BIC/IBAN) and the like as long as I only get what I want! CU! -Mike

  4. Hi! @mskim: Thanks for the information. Yes, it's the Taschen-book I was talking about. The other 3-volume-set I think I haven't seen yet neither in book stores nor on the internet. We'll see if I can get hold of those eventually... CU! -Mike

  5. Great survey - but one or two questions indicate that this is more aimed at women. And this is what we don't have a lot of around here anymore. :o( Anyway, would be interesting to see answers though. Adeana, you should create an Excel-spreadsheet to do some statistcs later on... ;o) Anyway, I really wonder if there are actually men as well who have permanent high heel feet or are in the process of getting there (for what reason ever). As far as it concerns me I don't have that particular property (yet?) although I'm a daytime heel-wearer (5" but with a slight platform). There should be a question about the heel height in relation to shoe-size from which the effect of 'permanent high heel feet' occurs, meaning a size UK10 can probably wear 3 inch heels or so 24/7 without having a problem going flat even if the 'back part' of the heel wearer's foot hasn't met the floor in years. But for a size 3 ;o) this can already turn out to be something of a challenge... CU! -Mike

  6. Sorry to say, Solanj Shoes is out of busines.

Yes, unfortunately, that's true. I think they shut down business around 2001 or so. I got a pair of 20cm stiletto-heeled non-platform courts from them in 1999 when I was spending several months in the U.S.

@mskim61: What do you refer to? I know there's a book out there containing the 'Best of...' Bizarre etc. It has a blue/black-printed cover (as far as I remember...).

  7. Hi! Since it's already evening in the picture - have you been on tour in that outfit the whole day long and possibly in bright daylight? Did someone make a comment? Or were you mistaken for being female because you were wrapped in these clothes? Respect! CU! -Mike

  8. Flavio, okay, if this is true for the Olympus cam then it's one problem down on fogborkenvv's ToDo-list. Nevertheless, I own a Canon EOS 350D and it needs Twain-Drivers in order cooperate with Zoombrowser & Co under Win2k. That's why I pointed that out since I went from there. But now that I run WinXP I could use the WIA-Drivers and simply connect the Digicam to my machine via USB saving the files browsing the cam's folder structure in the explorer. Anyway, I don't do that because a card reader - which I use to save the pictures from the memory card - is much more handy in that case. Meanwhile you can recharge your cam's "battery". CU! -Mike

  9. Hi!

If you got a genuine Windows installed (that's what I suppose ;o) ) then try to get their Antispyware-Tool set up as well (use Windows Update). It searches for malicious software on your machine and will eventually remove it. Furthermore try to install a firewall (like ZoneAlarm) and a virus-scan tool (e.g. Antivir - I use this for four years now and it's just great; it's free of charge).

Let us know how things evolve...

  10. Hi! The thing that should happen is that you will be seeing the camera's storage media folder structure somewhere in the folder structure shown in the explorer on the left pane (press the 'Folder'-button in the main menu if the folder-view is not there). There should be an icon representing your camera. The bad thing is for this to work you need so called WIA-drivers (should have been on the CD that came with your camera) which is only available for WinMe- and WinXP-system structure and is (explicitely) not thought to work with Win2k. There you need TWAIN-drivers along with some utility software that should be on the support-CD as well. The only alternative to circumvent all that WIA and TWAIN stuff would be to get an external USB card reader to work with your computer. In order to accomplish that just follow the advices given earlier by flavio. I.e., check if there's really a USB-socket behind the 'square opening' on the backside of your computer and check if it is connected to the mainboard. It's no prerequisite that the socket is connected to the mainboard in order to have the USB-stuff listed in the device manager but to eventually operate the USB-device it IS! One more thing: It's not important if you connect USB2.0 and USB1.1 in the first place - they will communicate but only at the speed USB1.1 supports at max. For high volume data transfer you have to use a USB2.0 host and a USB2.0 device in order to accomplish your data transfer in a reasonable amount of time. For 128MB of data via a USB1.1 connection you need to wait roughly 2 minutes. Imagine, you filled, say, 3 cards of 1GB each with your camera... - see what I'm getting at? If you need to get some new hardware just do it but the right way. CU! -Mike

  11. Hi!

Sorry that I dug out this old thread. I was just browsing my stories I'd put up here because by reading others' I was tempted to check if everything's still there. Unfortunately one is missing that I thought of to be around. It may have gone lost in last year's crash.

About 4 years or so I went shoe shopping with my s/o again. She was looking for some sandals for summer. I didn't think it was boring because I had another chance to explore the shoe shelfs for 'appropriate' footwear. I already had a pair of those (already featured here) but wanted another pair just in case the first one's worn off with that particular style being no longer available at that time.

My girl was browsing the more practical shoe section while I kept checking on those high heel platform boots. Since both shelves were directly vice versa my s/o and I could talk about the shoes we focussed on respectively. So I just wanted to make sure that the manufacturer didn't change the production and gave my platform boots 'to be' a try. And all that right in front of all the other customers. A couple right behind us (the way they looked they both seemed to be more interested in hiking shoes) looked at us and first and foremost at me what I probably had in mind as I unpacked the boots (from the box) and pulled my street shoes off. So I pulled the boots on and took a look in the mirror to see what they would look like (as if I didn't know ;o) ). The two folks behind us stood there, didn't say a single word and kept watching - again - literally with their jaws hitting the ground. When I was done evaluating I just put the boots back in the box, grabbed the box and my g/f and I went for the checkout. I would have really liked to know for how long the hiking-couple kept standing there looking at each other and the door we left the shop...

  12. Hi!

    And the reaction was...

... Positive! "Your heels are pretty high!" She said. I lifted the trousers' leg a bit to show what I really wore (5" platform boots). "Wow - that's really high!". Personally, I didn't think it was that tall but from her point of view on a guy? Yeah, that could explain it. She thought it was fun but not strange. Of course, there was the usual questions as well: "Why are you doing this?" etc. I explained that I have big crush for high heels and that's it. Then I turned the thing 'round and asked her (I've already seen her wearing 3.5" blade-heeled boots herself) why then she would do it: "... because my boy-friend wants me to do so...". - 'kay, not exactly what I wanted to hear but in the end it was quite some fun having a conversation like this on THE topic... ;o)

  13. Hi! I'd say it's more feminine. One of my female coworkers discovered my heel wearing as she walked right behind me one day when leaving the company in the afternoon. She didn't notice the shoes in the first place but my 'unusual' way of walking. That drew her focus and she the asked me about the shoes I wore... CU! -Mike

  14. Hi everybody! @Fogane: Yes you're right. Although I even have the bigger crush for stiletto heels I own a whole lot of shoes with high chunky heels. And some of them are just great for outdoor use... ;o) -- I got to check if I can find a hint regarding the manufacturer. So far I haven't found anything (sorry). @Jo: Faith, Faith everywhere but not in Germany! That's so ... AAARRRRRRGH! They got a lot of cool styles - even in larges sizes (compared to eBay-auctions). It would be great if they would once establish a subsidiary in Germany as well. @Dawn HH: Yeah, I'm very proud of them because they almost seemed to be gone since I lost the auction in the first place as I was literally outbid in the last second. A couple of hours later the seller turned to me asking if I would take them :D - obviously the winner bailed out for some reason. CU! -Mike
