  1. Tonight a friend of mine took a tumble and I had to take him to a hospital emergence room for some stitches. (He is doing just fine). I was wearing a pair of black thigh boots but with a flat heel. I wear these boots with the same confidence that I wear a pair of shoes. I don’t think twice about where I’m going or who is there. (I’m much more cautious with 5” stilettos). I spent time in the waiting room and back in the emergency room with the doctors and nurses. There were one or two second glances in the waiting room, but that was all. While my friend was getting an x-ray, the nurses offered advice on how to get a bad blood stain out of my jeans (my friend’s blood)[soak them in cold salt water]. The nurses and I talked for a few minutes (it wasn’t busy) but no one said a word or gave a second glance at my boots. I also don’t think anything is going to surprise as E/R staff.

  2. I spent another great afternoon at the Cincinnati Art Museum. I was wearing my black thighs with 5” stilettos. I spent 3 hours sketching and learning how to draw all over again. I had been away from drawing for a long while I’m really enjoying getting back into the swing of it. For me, sketching is a real release of the creative side. I work my tail off when I’m sketching as most people would with any hobby they really enjoy. As usual at the museum, no one batted an eye at a guy in thigh boots. As I have said before, I really try to pick where I wear my boots with care. The last thing I want is a scene. It really is great to go somewhere, wearing my boots, and not have to worry about anything (except making a decent sketch).

  3. This is a little off my usual subject but… I went shopping last night and wore a pair of stretch fabric ankle boots with a longish square toe and a 4.5” blade heel. I wore them under blue jeans and only the toe and lower heel were readily visible. More people seemed to notice these boots (or at least give the reaction of having noticed) than when I wear my thigh boots outside my jeans. I was quite surprised. There were no bad reactions but several more stares at my feet. Go figure.

  4. 5. I am only able to echo some earlier comments:

    WOW What a great outfit.

I think the longer shirt that covers the top of the jeans/boots, when your standing, breaks the line of the white boots enough that casual observers wouldn’t realize it is all one garment. I like that look by the way. I try to wear a jacket or turtleneck that covers the waist line of my jeans when I’m wearing thigh boots.

After writing the last paragraph I realized the concept of white leather jeans/boots and “casual observers” may not fit together.

Contrast seems to work well for you, white wall, black sofa, white cushions, black shirt, white boots, and a splash of red. It works well.

I can’t afford the price of boot/jeans but I think I can swing a pair of white thigh boots and white jeans. I just might give that a try.

Thanks again for posting the pics.

  6. Today was the last day of class. I wore a longer pair of jeans and a pair of black stretch fabric ankle boots with a 3” chunky heel. The jeans covered most of the boot. This was the first time I had worn them outside. I wore then on the bus going to class, and all day in class. After class I went shopping in Cincinnati for an hour. No one batted an eye.

I walked home again and this time went the long way which is about 3 miles. My calf muscles were still letting me know about their effort. There was a small rough spot on the inside of the heel lining and I wound up with a blister. I should know that as soon as there is a discomfort, it’s time to stop. I wound up changing into my guy shoes at the 2 mile point. Oh well, I still had a good time.

JimC - They are model 34960 "White Remodel Athl". I didn’t find them on the web site or I would have included the picture.

Terry - That's actually the style I was looking for. Looks like I'll have to take a trip to Wallmart. Mine are bright white, about 6 eyelets shorter with a velcro starp around the top and the heel is a little thinner.

  7. I walked home from class again. The afternoon was very sunny, and the temperature was mild. It was a great day for a walk. After class I changed into my high heeled sneakers and started home. The jeans I was wearing were a little shorter that the ones I wore the first time I walked home, only the top of the ankle boot were covered. Most of the boot and heel were exposed. Several folks walked passed going the other direction. The men did their best to ignore me but most of the women gave me a little smile. Other than that, there was no reaction from anyone. I was surprised at how little reaction I got, remember this is a bright sunny day and the shoes are white and fully exposed. My calf muscles are a little sore again. It must be the heel height and having to negotiate some uneven terrain. But, that’s what practice is all about. Anyway, I had a great time.

  8. I was in a Payless in Cincinnati and found a pair of their lace up ankle boots that are modeled after athletic shoes except they have a 3” stout heel. The only pair the had in 12 were white which was a little more conspicuous than wanted but I bought them anyway. :bday: I was in town for a class but I live close enough to commute by city bus. The weather was great so I decided to walk home from class in my new boots. This is about a 2 mile walk. I’m not sure I would have tried this with the stiletto heels I normally wear but these new boots have about a ¾” heel print and a round toe that seemed like it would be comfortable and more stable on broken sidewalks and other uneven surfaces. I wore jeans that covered some of the heel when I was standing but the whole shoe was exposed when I took a stride (saw my reflection in a large window). The walk was great. Several people noticed my shoes but passed on without comment. My legs were a little sore. Part of that was from the heel but part was from walking 2 miles. I think a higher quality shoe might have been more comfortable but Payless is more my price range and the opportunity was there.

  9. I have gone to the Cincinnati Art museum Saturday and Sunday and worn a pair of 4” stiletto heel thigh boots both times. Going to a museum is something I really enjoy. I take a sketch book and get lost in a painting trying to copy parts of it with a sketch. I know, whatever turns you on, but it really helps me keep going (great stress reliever). The fact that I can wear my boots in the museum just makes the afternoon a total high. Most of the patrons just notice and keep on going. There was a different crew of museum guards (the are police) this weekend than I knew from prior visits. They took a guy with a sketch pad and thigh boots in stride :D (sorry) and they were most helpful when I asked questions. As I was leaving Sunday, one of the younger guards (male) called after me, “Sir, Sir we are closing in 10 minutes. I really like you shoes”. I thanked him. It was a great ending to a fun day. If you go to a museum, be sure you are comfortable in the heels you wear because you are going to be on your feet for several hours.

  10. I recommend the leather boots rather then the vinyl. I have tried the Beverly style in a store and didn’t buy them. I have several pair of leather boots from Pleaser and Ellie which I find much more comfortable. Get a pair for yourself too. :D

  11. I have worn a small hole in the bottom of the toe tip on two pair of thigh boots with 4” stiletto heels. The hole is in the top shoe leather just past the front end of the sole where the shoe joins the sole. It only seems to happen on boots with a pointed toe. I haven’t taken them to a cobbler yet but I don’t see how it could be repaired. It maybe the way I walk in heels, but it’s only on two pair and not the others. Both pair have a softer leather top than my other boots. Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution or advice?

  12. Shoeiee; Sounds like you had fun and it must be great having someone with you. I’m glad you enjoyed my chronicles of my trips but, I will caution again, don’t become complacent. Select where you go carefully. Also, the first couple of times you wear stiletto heels, they are much more visible (mentally) to you than to anyone else. Have a great time, and keep us posted.

  13. I have three style of thigh boots, pull on (no zipper), ankle zipper, and full length zipper. Each have their own feel and style and present a different image (at least I feel differently about wearing each style). The pull on boots are all 4” stiletto heel and are easy to get on (and off). They have a loose fit around the ankle. I think wearing them is more about wearing boots than about wearing heels. The exception is a pair of chap boots with a 5” heel. My heel just fits through the ankle when I put them on and they are not convenient to slip into (or out of). My ankle zip boots are either flat heel or 5” stiletto. The flat heel is still a loose fit around the ankle (even with the zipper) and are definitely about wearing boots. The 5” ankle zip have a much tighter ankle that emphasize the heel and are as much about wearing heels as wearing boots. The pair with the full length zipper are crotch length and fit tight all the way past my knee before they flair out at the thigh and have a 5” stiletto heel. I find the ankle zip boots easier to get on and off then the full zipper version.

  14. ace_sk;

What a great shopping trip. Sounds like you really had fun.

The last time I did that was five years ago at a Baker’s Shoes in Cincinnati (now closed). They had a collection on thigh boots. I actually went in three times. The first time I tried on a pair of flat heel boots and bought them. Several days later I bought a second pair that had a 2” block heel without trying them on (opps). The next day I tool them back but tried on a third pair (low stiletto) which, unfortunately, were also too small.

The first time the clerk got the boots for me and I asked if I could try them on. She said “sure” and went back to the counter. When I went up to pay for them she asked, “Are those going to work for you”? I said they would. She didn’t seem surprised the next time I came in and tried on boots.

I had forgotten all about that shopping trip (thanks for reminding me) because I hadn’t done it again. I think I will have to start again even though finding size 12-14 can be frustrating.

  15. I wore my guy shoes to take my stuff out to the car. I learned the last time that playing pack mule in 5” heels was no fun. On the way back to the room I went ahead and had breakfast.

Today was to be the day I drove home and got to stop on the way. Well, I wound up working in my hotel room until 11:00 (ah, the miracles of modern telecommunications, internet access in the room let me get to work). I still had an 9 hour drive in front of me so the late start limited (to zero) the number of stops I was going to be able to make.

In the car I changed into my 4” heeled boots and went to the gas station. After driving for a couple of hours I stopped at an expressway rest stop and went to the rest room. It wasn’t too busy (the guy standing next to me seemed to be having a hard time, but that happens). I went out to the lobby to look at the wall map and noticed at least one hard stare from a guy. I ignored it and went on out to my car.

Several hours later I stopped at an expressway service plaza (I-70) and had lunch at a Burger King. This was a very busy place. I got a couple of looks but no comments. I had to take my food back because they got my order wrong so I got to walk around a good bit. On the way back to the car, I think I amused a car full of male teenagers. Their windows were closed so I couldnt hear them but I assumed someone made a comment that everyone thought was funny. I also refilled the gas tank, then drove for another 6 hours. My 4” heel boots are really comfortable (not the same pair I wore on the last drive home).

All in all it has been a fun trip.

    Note to everyone:

I got out of the way of the storm in plenty of time but the drive home was much wetter then the drive out. I really appreciate the concerns. Also, thanks again for the invitations.

    Bert:

What a great looking pair of boots! Where did you get them?

Wear then however you are comfortable. I’m sure that after a while you will try wearing them outside your pant legs and discover that nobody cares that much. But as always, use caution and pick your places carefully.

    Enjoy.

  16. I wore my 5” heeled boots to breakfast and everything was much the same as the day before. There is something, however, different about wearing a 5”heel on a tighter fitting boot (ankle zipper) than a 4” heel pull on boot. These boots are as much about the heel as they are the boot. It may be subtle but I notice the difference when I’m wearing them and this is all about confidence and presentation. I walked out to my car (all the way at the end of the lot) and drove to class. There I changed into my guy shoes again. Great class today! I changed back to the 5” heels and drove back to the hotel. I was early and got a good parking spot which was nice since the sky opened and started dumping buckets of water. This prompted a quick dash to the entrance which was an adventure in itself with 5” heels. For dinner I wore a white long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and 5” heel black thigh boots. I went back to the same restaurant for another menu item. I had to park even farther away than last night. I walked across the parking lit then started up the sidewalk to the restaurant. I passed several folks going the other direction. Most just glanced and kept going. One young man looked down and said, “Damn” and kept on going. I took it as a complement. In the restaurant there was a 10 minute wait but the hostess asked me if a table close the front of the restaurant was Ok, and seated me immediately. The meal and wine (one glass, driving and 5”heels) were good but I think they were glad when I left. Most of the reactions I got seemed to be something like: I’ve never seen anyone wearing boots like those before and then I’ve never seen a guy wearing boots like those before. I walked back to the bookstore because I wasn’t ready to go back to the hotel and looked at books for another half hour. I then walked across the parking lot back to the car. I got my wrong end of the lot parking spot again. This is my last night, but I plan on making a few stops on the way home tomorrow. For the most part it has been a fun trip. DawnHH: Thanks for the concern. I try to keep the batteries charged. Looks like I’m going to be motoring through your part of the world. Shoeiee: Thanks for the welcome. Got you mail and I’m really sorry I can’t make the meeting. Maybe I can the next time I’m back in Reston.

  17. Wow, what a difference a day makes, or maybe it was just getting a good nights sleep, whatever I feel great today. No more of this “tired of wearing heels” stuff. I had breakfast in my 4” heeled boots, and again the room was all business guys but I had a whole different attitude. These are my boots, and I’m wearing them. I got a few looks but other than that, nothing. After breakfast, I wore my boots out to the car. My parking spot was all the way at the end of the parking lot so it was a good walk. I changed into regular guy shoes when I got to class (the class is work related). After class I changed back into my boots and went back to the hotel and got the same bad parking spot. The desk clerk (same as last night) was cheerful and polite. I decided I wasn’t going to be put off by the neighborhood any longer and besides, I wanted a good meal. For dinner, I wore my turtle neck, long sleeved blue dress shirt, jeans, and black thigh boots with 4” heels. The restaurant is in a 4 city block open air mall. I parked and spotted a bookstore and went there first. I roamed around for a while then walked a block to am Italian restaurant. I went in, was greeted cheerfully and was seated at a table on the other end of the dinning room. I had a good meal and a pleasant waitress. As I left I asked the hostess if my boots were a problem. She looked alarmed (that I would even ask) and said they weren’t any problem at all. I thanked her and told her I would be back tomorrow. She and another waitress bid me a pleasant good evening. I walked back to the bookstore and took my time purchasing several books. I walked back to my car I changed into my 5” heeled boots. I drove back to the hotel and got an even worse parking spot. I walked across the parking lot and into the lobby and ask the same clerk if my boots were a problem and got the same reaction, “No, they are no problem at all”. This class really is exhausting, I’ve had a good meal and a beer, I’m wearing 5” heeled boots, I’ve got a couple of good books, I’m beat, and it’s time to crash.

  18. I had breakfast wearing my black thigh boots with 4” heels. The room was full of business men and there wasn’t any conversation going on. Everyone looked, and went back to their breakfast and newspapers.

The class I’m taking this week is great. By the time the instructor finished with us I was exhausted. Any more information would have gone in one ear and right out the other. I came back to the hotel and crashed.

For dinner, I wore a black turtle neck, dark silk shirt, dark slacks, black blazer, and black thigh boots with 4” heels. I drove around looking for a restaurant. I started to notice I was in a rather upscale neighborhood in which I was not comfortable. All the cars were new, and the people were either dressed “designer casual” or worked real hard to not look dressed up. I wound up going to a restaurant where I was ignored by the host when I walked in, and ignored by the waitress (as much as she could). This was not my most enjoyable meal. Oh well, my tip wasn’t that great either.

When I got back to the hotel, I entered the lobby and the desk clerk (female) saw me come in and gave me a friendly greeting.

Something has changed. It may be that I just don’t think this is the place or I’m getting tired of heels for a while (see http://www.hhplace.org/hhboard/viewtopic.php?t=3490). It does seem like a shame to waste the opportunity but as Genebujold and Bert point out, “don’t get complacent”. Maybe I just need to change what I am wearing with my boots. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome.

    Buba136;

Some day I’ll learn to type, but that was a great Freudian slip.

  19. Another out of town class. I drove from Northern Ky to Reston Va. in about 9 hours. The drive in 4”heel thigh boots included a gas stop and was uneventful. I will take more time on the way back and make a couple more stops. When I walked into the hotel, the lobby was empty and the clerk was not at the front desk. When he came out the back office, the he couldn’t see my boots at all. I went out to dinner at a steak house wearing 4” heel black thigh boots, dark slacks, and a dark blue silk shirt. The hostess greeted me with a smile and lead me across the whole restaurant and seated me in a booth. After dinner, I asked my waitress if my boots were Ok in this neighborhood? She looked at them, noticed the heels, and asked where I’d planned to go. I said, “mostly just out to eat”. She thought on it and said I wouldn’t get beat up or anything but “watch out for groups of high school guys, they can be a little rough”. That may be good advice anywhere. When I left, I asked the hostess if my boots were Ok and she said smiled again and said, ” Sure, have a good time”. After dinner I went to a large drugstore in a strip mall. It was late and there were very few in the store. I wondered through and found what I was looking for without incident. After a 9 hour drive all I really wanted to do was eat and go to bed. Oh well tomorrow is another day.

  20. I just took a pair of my 5”heel thigh boots to the local cobbler for new heel tips. The Columbus trip finally wore them out. The lady that runs the shop is used to me bringing in thigh boots for heels but she wasn’t there today. The shop is a shoe store that has a cobbler come in once a week to do repairs.

I walked in with my boots in their box and found a teen aged girl at the counter. Without opening the box I said I needed heel tips. She looked at me kind of funny (she didn’t know what heel tips were) and opened the box and started to unfold the top boot. Her series of expressions was priceless:

    1) Oh 8) - I’m sure she had never seen a pair of thigh boots before.

    2) These sure are big - size 14

    3) I’ll bet their his :D

    4) What do I do now? :) She closed the box. I reopened it and pointed out what heel tips were and that they needed replacing. She gave me a receipt and gingerly put the box away. I proceeded to look at all the ladies shoes that were on sale.
