  1. Went to Last Call again tonight and found a pair of pants that I am considering wearing into the office:

I love the high waist, the cotton is so comfortable, and size 4 fit perfectly.  Obviously I got these on the women’s side, and there are some slits at the bottom, but with the black boots underneath I am hoping it would all be subtle, and not too sassy?  Or is this across the line and tacky?  Will people just wonder why my trousers are split in two at the leg?  LOL.  Wearing this down to the lobby bar now to think about it...

  2. Looking good!  Even better that you work in a shoe store!  If I came to your store I would be inspired to buy some heels from you!  Or maybe a pair of those nice tall boots on the bottom shelf...

In all seriousness, men sales associates wearing heels in the shoe store will progress the fashion trend more than others.  It happened to me, I did not even think about buying high heels until I saw a male sales associate walking around in some tall block heels at Nordstrom.

Two women showing up at the same party wearing identical dresses would, more than likely, be noticed only by other woman.  Men might notice but it wouldn’t really bother them. Women really dress for “other women” and to appear attractive to men (According to my wife .).

True, most guys are relatively oblivious  but there is a point at which wearing something so identical will finally catch their eye.  Any time two guys show up to a meeting in the office with identical shirts, a guy always notices and points it out.  But you are right in that many will just shrug it off as a coincidence and not find any significance in it.  Though if a colleague ever show up with the same 4” heels that I am wearing, that will not be a mere coincidence...

The thing is, how often does any stranger compliment anyone on their dress sense? Almost never. Strangers seldom even say hello, let alone venture a personal comment. It’s rare, vanishingly rare.

And these days, of course, if a guy was to compliment a woman in any way he would be setting himself up for a harassment charge.

    People just keep to themselves.

I get compliments on what I am wearing every week, and it is still usually unrelated to my heels.  I think men dress so homogenously now that anything different will be noticed.

Whether it be a suede jacket, a bow tie, or 4” heels, I don’t wear what I wear to get attention, exactly.  But I AM wearing it to be different, because otherwise life would be too boring.  I am not trying to scream and drown out everyone else, but rather contribute another color to the spectrum of what is around us.  If people quit contributing their different colors, then the world will become monochromatic.

Most people would say it would be embarrassing to show up to the office or  coffee shop wearing the exact same thing as someone else.  Even worse if it were a formal party, and two women showed up in the same dress!  Yet people still set themselves up for the “inbred fashion” look when they “play it safe” and wear only what everyone else happens to be wearing.  It may feel cozy at first, but I can’t help but notice its correlation to a growing, broader narrow-mindedness that seems to accompany it...

  5. Check the material composition of those jeans, that could be much of the difference.  Most “women” jeans have more elastane, like 40% or more.  The thing I like about “women” jeans is that they actually sit at the waist, so the seams and belt are nice and cozy there instead of rubbing against my hip bones.  Plus, it’s basically impossible to find “men” clothes for a 27” waist.

Since people have rented tuxedoes for a long time it seems feasible one could rent boots as well. The reality of it though is, apart from an occasional place like the Aloft hotel in Austin, I just don't think you're going to find many offerings. Could it be fear of foot odour?? Are we talking of a couple renting like Louboutin heels for an evening together?? Given that brand's value I'd say there's a high likelihood of sole damage upon return. Maybe good for a shoe cobbler though. HinH

True, even tuxedo rental shops rent out shoes.  I rented a vest from a place once just to pair something different with my tux for one evening.

I had no idea there were places that rented out women’s outfits.  Perhaps they would rent out individual pieces / heels too.  I’m sure there are effective ways to sanitize shoes.  People stick their feet in sweaty loaner ice skates and bowling shoes all the time.

  7. Wearing heels doesn’t magically make me feminine.  It’s a pair of shoes.  It’s the heels that are feminized, through decades of fashion trends and perceptions, not me.

I also realize that when I wear heels the world is not going to change overnight, and suddenly make heels to be masculine.  But over time, and in certain contexts, they might become less strongly feminine.  And perhaps that effort is why the men’s forum is so active.  It will be interesting to see how things go over time.

  8. I designed a pair of custom pull on boots in December - can’t wait for them to be finished.  They will have a 4” heel and 19” shafts.  Black cowhide with elephant overlay.

I am already dreaming up another design for this year.  4” heel, 25” thigh high shafts, and brown with a sweeping overlay all the way around the lower.
