You may not believe this @RonC but even I have single sole heels. They are only about 15% of my heels, but I do have them.

I thought I would give you some anecdotal observations.
Where I work there are thousands of people who work there or use the place. Of the 400+ women who work there, there are only about 10 to 12 and me in the "High Heel Club." About 8% wear 2-3 inch heels but most at 1 in or less. Surprisingly, several of us n the High Heel Club are size 10.
I constantly get asked if my feet hurt by the flats crowd, and then they usually say they can wear high heels because ... I think their feet hurt because they have ruined their feet with bad shoes when they were young or make their purchases with style over fit or they don't have good enough posture to wear heels.
I learn very early on that Life's too short for heels that hurt. If it does fit to begin with then I will pass it up. I will buy some that are very close and use my heel stretchers in them.
I am a regular at a nail salon where I get my fingernails done. The women all want to see my nails and my heels. Those that are leaving want to see the old ones and ask about my next design. A couple of weeks ago the conversation was about heels, and the phrase "dinner heels" came up and their definition was "the heels your wear from the car to the table and from the table to the car."

negotiating everyday life
For me negotiating everyday life is 14 hour days walking in heels. My heels need to stay comfortable the whole time!

I'm concern with the difference between platform and heel. I NEED at least 3.5 inches and can easily wear up to a 4.75 inches difference. I think my platform heels are easier on my feet compared to thin single sole heels.

The work stations are too low for me to wear heels, so I wore some flats instead.
I've learned to tuck my legs back and lower the chair slightly for my manicures. Besides, the other regulars want to see what I have on. You just can't disappoint them.
