  1. Thanks Docs.... Being a "low tech guy in a high tech world," I was proud of myself when I finally figured out not only what an "avatar" was, but how to actually post one!!! ha ha... The sandals are some "cheapie" Steve Madden imitations that I got at Target last year. But they look nice and are comfy. The wife has a matching pair in red... Take care... sf

  2. I pluck the hairs out with tweezers. No stubble grows back like shaving. When the hairs do grow back, they seem to be finer in texture. Plucking takes a bit more time, but you only have to do it every 3 to 4 weeks - for me at least. One thing for sure, if you are going to wear sandals like I do - all the time - your feet should look nice. After plucking, I have a pedicure and finish with a glossy clear coat. It's fun!!! sf

  3. Last week I went to a local Payless Shoe store to browse around. I found a pair of HH Thong slide sandals called "Lisette." The sandals have a braided upper with a 2 inch slender heel and look very nice. I asked the gal at the counter if they had a size 11 in stock. She said they did not, but another Payless close by had a size 11. The gal even gave me a $3.00 discount coupon for the purchase. I went to the other store and was greeted by the lady clerk, she aked what size I was looking for. When I told her size 11, she began to direct me to the men's section. I told her no, size 11 womens, and she hesitated and chuckled slightly then took me to the ladies section. I found the Lisette sandal up in the overhead rack, and asked the clerk if she could get the box down for me, which she did. She opened the box and said "these are cute shoes," and handed them to me. I said yes, I liked them and then asked the $64,000 question, "these are for me, do you mind if I try them on?" She looked at me and smiled with a said "you go ahead." So right there in front of her and another clerk, I put on the sandals, looked in the mirror and walked around the store a bit. The clerk did not say anything but looked at me and smiled. When I went to buy the shoes, the clerk asked if I wanted to get a second pair for 50% off, so I went and found a matching pair for my wife. As I completed the purchase, the clerk again said that she liked the shoes, and said for me to enjoy my purchase. When I got home, I gave the wife her "surprise" and we tried on our matching sandals together. Can't wait to get "out" in them, they will look good with denim or cargo pants. I have had other shopping experiences at Payless, and the clerks there are always very freindly and helpful. See ya, sf

  4. Yes, sandal season is back!! All my girl shoes are hh sandals - flats too, love 'em. Fortunately out here in California the weather is warm enough where sandals can be worn "almost" year round. I have already been out several times. See ya, sf P.S. Don't forget the pedicure too!!

  5. Hola... My first time out was a long time ago, in 1996. But first some background. I had been wearing flat womens shoes (mostly sandals) in public since I was a teen. My friends and family just came to expect it. In 1996 I was travelling in Argentina and noticed a lot of women wearing fantastic looking hh sandals. When I returned to the US, I was out shoe shopping one day as usual. I saw a pair of thong slides with a woven vamp and 2 inch heel and thought the shoes looked nice. I remember at the time wondering what would it feel like to wear hh sandals, and I tried them on - my first time in heels. I like the shoes, and bought them. As I was going home, I thought to my self, now what am I going to do with these shoes? I decided that buying a pair of shoes and not wearing them would be stupid. I bought the sandals because I liked them. My first time out in those hh thongs was at a shopping mall. I had no intent to shop, I just wanted to try the sandals for a long walk (I had tried them in the house/yard and felt sort of comfortable that I could walk in them without falling!!). When I got out of my car I was a nervous wreck but had to do it. As I approached the mall, a young couple was walking towards me. The girl saw my shoes, discreetly nudged her partner, and as I passed I heard her say something and giggle. I thought great, this is going to be a disaster - but I was committed. I continued into the mall, and walked the corridor, thru some of the big stores and eventually out to my car. Since I was still a hh novice, my heels slipped on the slick floor a few times - no fall - but some unsteadyness, maybe because I was so nervous. Once back to the car I was relieved but proud of myself. But the best part, no one seemed to notice and if they did no one cared enough to notice or comment - except for the first couple. Days later - and after some more practice at home - I went to a Barnes and Noble bookstore in my hh sandals. As I browsed the store, one of the female clerks obviously noticed my sandals and stared a few times but said nothing. I made my purchase and went my way. After these experiences, and deciding that I really do like wearing high heels, I began to get a collection of hh sandals. So now here I am 14 years later with about 20 pair of hh sandals (still have my flats too). I wear high heels in public when possible, with most friends and family aware and OK with it. Even my wife is OK with my heels, I was wearing womens flat sandals before we were married, and we even have a few pair of matching flat and hh sandals. A long winded answer to a short question. Bottom line, YOU can do it and it's fun. Yes, over the years I have gotten a few stares and comments, but I have gotten more complements and positive comments from BOTH men and women. But even more, the majority of the time no one notices or says anything - it's like a non event. So enjoy your heeling experiences, we need more guys out in heels, I am tired of being the only one - at least out here in central California -- ha ha... see ya, sf

  6. Yes it has happened to me as well. Women and kids seem to notice my hh sandals more than men. Usually the kids notice while I am walking and if they ever say anything I never know 'cause I am now out of ear shot. Once tho in a bank line, a small boy saw my sandals (a pair if wedgie slides) and said to his mon out loud, "why does that man have girls shoes on?" The mom looked, as did the rest of the bank; at me. The mom and I made eye contact and she (we) smiled, while the mom said something to her kid and that ended it.. For all my public heeling that was the only real time something was said by a kid that I was aware of. Take care... sf

  7. Hey James... Welcome.. I live in Nor Cal (south bay), and have been wearing hh (sandals) in public for about 15 years. As of yet, I have not seen another guy out in heels, but according to posts here, there are some (but not many).. It takes some courage to actually get out - what if you run into friends - what if you get ridiculed - all have happened to me - BUT, if you use discretion, and after you do it a while, it is fun and not a big deal. I have actually gotten some compliments!!! Take care.... sf

  8. Daniel.... Yes it was alot of fun. But that was a few weeks ago, at the end of our "indian summer" here in central California. The weather has gotten cooler, I am afraid that sandal weather is gone for a while (but I still have a nice pedicure). Oh, something I forgot to mention in my original post - if you are wearing sandals, you feet should look nice !!! Take care... sf

  9. Pedicures are FUN.. Just last week I had my 3rd salon pedicure experience. The first two were just me and my wife with the last pedi in the spring. Since then, we just had not found time to go together. Last week my wife asked if I wanted to go and get pedicures together. Of course, I said yes. Then she told me that one of her girlfriends was going to go as well, and said that I did not have to go if I did not want to. That did not bother me - I know her friend quite well - and we all went to the salon. My wife and I both wore thongs, my wife a cute pair of wedgie heels, and I wore a pair of 2 1/2 inch wedge black t-strap thongs with a backstrap - I did not want to mess up my pedi when finished. Once in the salon, we all had pedicures together, we laughed and talked, it was a fun experience. The gals got colored nails, I stayed with a clearcoat. When done, we all slipped on our sandals, then went for lunch at a nearby cafe. As we left the restaurant, the friend said that we all now had nice looking feet. We all laughed. It was a fun experience. Being out in hh sandals is not that big of a deal, usually folks don't notice, and if they do, usually they are "cool" about it. For those of you that are hesitant about going "public," give it a try, is is not as hard as you might imagine. And yes I do understand your hesitation, I was a nervous wreck when I started heeling in public, more than 10 years ago!!! See ya, SF

  10. Well...... About a week after my encounter with the lady who was very complementary towads me and my hh sandals, I again received another complement, but this time it was from a guy. I was walking out of a local store, wearing my Vaneli Merlion sandals when a car parked in front of the store with a lone male driver inside. I walked to my car and as I was getting inside, he asked me if my shoes were comfortable. I was suprised since I did not think that he had noticed my shoes. I smiled and said yes, they were comortable, expecting that he was going to make some sort of negative comment. He then asked if the sandals were "girls shoes." I said yes, and said that it may seem odd to see a guy in heels, but I wear heels most of the time in warm weather. The guy then said that he thinks it is "really cool" that I wear "girl's shoes" and that my shoes looked really "cool." He must have said four or five times that he thought a guy wearing girls shoes was really cool. I told him thanks for his complements and went on my way. Since my first post I have continued to wear the same sandals in public almost daily. So far these are the only comments, most of the time folks - men and women - look for a moment and maybe smile, but for the most part that is the extent of any interaction. See ya, SF

  11. DeSalto, Yes those are the ones. Vaneli Merlion sandals. I would have posted a picture myself but I am not that "technical." My sandals are black. When that style came out about two years ago, they came in bone (off white), navy blue and brown. I really like the style, it is a very unique looking sandal - in my opinion. If I get any more reaction or comments, I will post a message. I wear the sandals all the time. Take care all.... SF

  12. Everyone -- I had an experience a few weeks ago that I have to share. First a little background. I have been wearing hh sandals in public for about 10 years. For the most part, folks don't notice, and those who do just look/stare for a bit and that's it. A few weekends ago, I was walking thru the parking lot of a major mall, heading for Macy's. I was wearing a pair of Vaneli "Merlion" sandals. I got these sandals about 2 years ago at Marmi's shoes. They are a very unique (at least to me) sandal, they have a 2 inch kitten heel - I wish it were more chunky - and are sort of a combination of a thong, T-strap, and ankle wrap sandal, all in one. They're a bit more fem than most of my other sandals - because of the heel - but I like the style so much that I wear them a lot. As I was walking thru the parking lot a car passed me with two folks inside, a man (driving) and a female passenger - both in their 40's. When the car passed, the lady seemed to be saying someting to the driver, and the car slowed, as the lady looked at me in the rear view side mirror. The car drove a few more feet then stopped, near the entrance to the Macy's. I thought that man was letting the lady out to go to the store. Instead she stayed in the car and looked at me in the mirror as I approached. I was a bit nervous that she was going to heckle or make some type of comment. As I approached, she looked at me and asked, Where did you get those shoes, they are wonderful! She was all smiles, and seemed friendly. I told her where I bought them, and the three of us began a very interesting conversation. She said that she has never seen such "wonderful" shoes, and continued to rave on, saying that my shoes were "beautiful." As I told her where I got the sandals, she said that they looked great on me. I thanked her and said that I enjoy wearing hh sandals, and it probably looks strange seeing a guy in heels. She said don't worry, you look great! Even her male companion looked at me and gave me the "high" sign. After about 5 minutes, we parted ways and I went into the store. Over the years, I have had folks comment on my shoes, but this was by far the most enjoyable experience. I can only hope the lady finds a similar pair for herself. Bottom line, wearing heels in public ain't all bad !!! See ya, SF

  13. I finally bought a pair of the Aerosloes "Moments Notice" sandals, and they are perfect!! Very comfortable, and the heel (apx 2 inches) is just right. I am about 6ft 3 in, so do not really want a heel that is too high. These sandals are great. The gals in the store were great too. I went in the store, looked around, saw the Moments Notice shoes, and asked for a size 11. The gal smiled, went "in back" and came out with the shoes. I told her that they were for me, and could I try them on in the store. She smilled and said "of course." There were at least 6 other customers in the store, looking and trying on shoes, some looked my way but no reaction at all. I tried on both pair, looked in the mirror, took off the sandals, and paid for them. While I was checking out, I asked the clerk if they got many guys in the store trying on shoes, or am I the only one? She smiled and said no, they get a lot more guys in than one would imagine. Overall, nice exerience and great shoes!!! SF

  14. Magickman... I wonder the same thing. I feel that I am the only guy wearing heels out here in Central California. Since the weather warmed the past few weeks, I have been out and about in my hh sandals almost exclusively. Been wearing heels in public (sandals) since 1994, and never, never have I seen another guy out in heels. To bad, I guess we will carry the torch for all the rest. As for the rest of y'all, give it a shot, once you get out in public, it is NOT that big of a deal. Today I have been out all day in a pair of 2 inch wedgie sling back t-strap thongs. If folks notice, and some do, they either compliment or say nothing. Have fun !!! SF

  15. Sandalguy... Yes the Moments Notice shoes look really nice. I like the lower heel, I am a bit tall so the lower heels work fine for me. I'm out to enjoy wearing heels, NOT to attract attention to myself !!! When I get my pair I will send a "style" report. Take care... SF

  16. Aerosoles sandals - Absolutely!! I love Aerosoles. I have owned two pairs over the years, they are very comfy and stylish. My last pair I bought about two years ago, the style was "Metro," it was a slide with about a 2 inch slightly chunky heel. A nice thing about Aerosoles is they carry larger sizes, up to size 12. Every time I have been in one of their stores trying on shoes, the staff are very friendly and understanding. This year they do have some nice styles, I am looking at the "Moments Notice" style, will probably have that one in a few weeks. SF

  17. Sandalguy... Welcome. I to wear hh sandals, have been wearing in public for about 15 years now. My wife is OK with it, and we do wear heels out together at times, but mostly I wear when solo. My heels are 2 to 2 1/2 inches, thongs, wedgies, strappy etc. I also have a lot of flat sandals that I have worn since I was a teen. CA is like FL, we have more sandal wearing oportunities than others - lucky us!!! Take care.. SF

  18. Spring is here and summer is around the corner. The warmer weather means it is sandal time. Even in California, winter is too cold for much sandal wearing (except for so-cal, and that's another story). A lot of the posts here talk about hh boots but not much about hh sandals. All my fem shoes are sandals -well, one pair of clogs - that I wear all the time (in public), weather permitting. Who else is into hh sandals? It's pedicure time!! Take care... SF

  19. I like T-Straps also. I could not find a pair that I liked until about a year ago. At Zappos I found a pair of nice T-strap sandals by Vaneli, style name Merlion. These shoes are really three styles in one. They are a T-strap, thong and ankle wrap all in one shoe, with a 2 inch heel. The shoe is very unique and comfortable to wear. I like it so much that I bought a second pair for when the origional pair wear out!! See ya... SF

  20. Radiodave... As for the boilerplate, you quoted them almost exactly. At least they do put some of the posts there unedited. Hi there Docs, I have seen your posts at Zappos, they must like you better !!! ha ha See ya, SF
