There's a reason why the 70's were a decade of crimes against fashion and why it should be stricken from the historical record.

While I agree on most levels with this comment, the current situation is rapidly becoming a total wasteland when it comes to heels, as they are disappearing rapidly.  As stated above, when freaking flip=flops become clubwear, things are deteriorating rapidly.  Seems like we are headed to jeans and t-shirts as being the everyday clothing choice, with sneakers and flip-flops owning the footwear world.  I personally believe this is the worst I've seen in my 69 years.  Yes, the 70's had some garrish selections, but even in the years where heels pretty much disappeared (late 60's to mid-late 70's), the ladies still wore dresses, skirts, and dress shoes, even if the heels were low and chunky.  Now, we see few skirts and dresses, and if a dress is worn, sneakers have become the go to shoe, with flip-flops right there with them.  Sad.  In my opinion, it is a poor reflection on society as a whole.  Studies in schools have  shown that better dress equals better behavior.  People just seem to act differently when dressed better.

  2. No, he did not seem to notice, which was kind of surprising.  I ran into a neighbor shopping a couple years back and she didn't notice the height difference either.  Of course, these aren't people I see constantly either, so the chance of noticing a height difference is less I would guess.

  3. I'd happily wear either the Nine West or the Edelman's if they fit me properly (which is unlikely due to my wider than typical foot shape), but I could not handle your pumos Jkrenzer, as that heel height is beyond my desire both from a practical wearability standpoint and an aesthetic standpoint.  As indicated in a prior post, I just don't find heels that high attractive.  But you keep on keeping on sir!  And if I saw you wearing them, I'd pass on kudos!

  4. While I have seen women with heels and shorts, the heels will always be wedges.  However, that is a rare sight these days as flats and sneakers have taken over the women's world (much to my chagrin, I might add...lol).  These days it's rare to see heels period, regardless of clothing, unless it is a formal affair such as a wedding.  I guess if I was young and still frequenting the night club scene they might be more common.  But not for business attire it seems, and not for church either.

mlrosplant, based on what you've described in the past, I would say your definition of "walk" is quite proper!

Even shoedazzle is offering less and less true stilettos.

Yeah, it does look as if those of us who greatly prefer the stiletto to the thicker heels are in for a down period.  It has happened before - just look at the end of the 1960's and early 1970's.  Low block heels were absolutely everywhere, without a stiletto to be found.  Problem for me is that I likely won't live long enough to see the turnaround back to higher stilettos if and when it happens.

I don't mean to sound snooty at all, but they are just simply not high enough for my taste.

Ok.  When you were talking of the Pleasers being too high, I didn't know you meant a 1/4 - 1/2 inch or so too high.  Also just a note - I believe Nine West measures heels straight up the center of the heel from the side, not the back.  Their 4" heels do measure close to 4.5", especially in larger sizes, when measured up the back.  While I can't really wear anything over 4" with any degree of comfort and grace, from an aesthetic point of view, I personally actually prefer the look of a heel in the 3.5-4.5 inch range to those of 5 (+) inches.  Of course I am talking here about single sole shoes.  But even for platforms, I just don't really care for the look of a towering high heel.  Too each their own!  ;-).

  7. Likely just the particular style.  Seems every brand has some that run small and some that run large.  Also, anything that is a boot or boot like style tends to be made to be worn with a heavier sock so they also run larger than a pump or shoe intended to be worn with bare feet or nylons.

  8. While a long way from being gay, I have friends that are, including women.  And I find it interesting that, while one does not see gay males dressed as women, one definitely sees gay women dressed as and emulating males.  I have often wondered why that is.

    Hello Pierre

Yes, whenever I have the chance to.

For my last trip, I did:

I'm afraid, like Mlroseplant said, that my limit is about 10cm. Higher I'm not able to walk normally!

Wow.  Takes courage to wear those outfits!  I like the sandals in the second photo.  Matches my taste.  I no longer travel at all.  I only took heels with me once while I was traveling for work.  That was well before I found this site and had the nerve to wear them publicly.  Wish I could do it again!

Curious, who took the photos?  Or were they selfies?

  10. Those re fairly extreme.  And they do look rather unstable if on anything but a nice level surface.  Of course, isn't that a part of why we enjoy heels?

  11. Welcome!  Hope those Nine West heels fit well so you don't have to suffer to wear them.  That's not how it should be.  I admit it took me a while to figure that out, before I finally realized that women's size 10 just didn't fit me.  Back then, it was almost impossible to find heels in sizes larger than 10, so for a while I did squeeze into them.  Then size 11 and 12 became more available and while it wasn't always the exact style I preferred, it was much nicer wearing shoes that fit!  And I agree with mlroseplant.  I never thought that I would actually wear heels in a public place where someone might actually see me.  But here I am!  Hope you enjoy the site.

    Kjones92,

Not sure if someone else mentioned this, but you may want to consider extra long boot cut/straight leg jeans. Long enough to cover the shoe and heel.  This way you can travel relatively incognito until you are ready to flaunt it without a care.

    Congrats and keep pushing!

That is what I wear with my heels
